Gotta stop by this cute little place, especially if you are a gin lover like I am (when not drinking wine). It is a tiny restaurant and bar at the corner of 12th Street and Okay in Phoenix. They have "comfort food" from the South. The bar offers retro drinks and not a big selection. Cocktails are between $7 and $9. The bar even makes its own lemonade and ginger ale. The gin and tonic is served with cucumber and is refreshing. They even sell their tonic syrup.

Another new, very hip place in an older neighborhood of Phoenix. The original building was built in 1959, but the owner did a major remodel keeping the shell but added very dramatic touches to the windows, and openness of the interior. The landscaping is very neat, an open real wood burning fireplace is right outside the front door. Now, the food. As a southern boy I have longed for certain tastes that I havent been able to find for 50 years. The fried okra here satisfied one of those longings, as did the oyster po'boy. Highly reccommended!

This is a really easy restaurant to drive right on by & not even realize it is there. BTW it's on the SE corner of 12th St & Oak.
I had the crispy shrimp & okra w/dipping sauces - DELICIOUS and Dates stuffed w/ chorizo on a bed of greens. The first was outstanding with the flavors really coming thru & fully complementing each other With the chorizo stuffed dates, it was good but it was difficult to taste anything but the chorizo. The staff was excellent in every way - we felt very welcome & appreciated, they weren't overbearing but were very knowledgeable & friendly and we didn't want for a thing The pricing was very, very good . Loved the architecture! A must go to restaurant!
