I went to Dr. James Sinoway for an annual eye exam. I work in Midtown and hadn't had my eyes checked since graduating college. He was local and was covered under my eye insurance (EyeMed). I went simply to have my eyes check with an interest in getting an updated prescription and new frames. I also wear contacts and indicated this on the preliminary form before seeing the doctor. While I waited I told the receptionists I was interested in new frames. Once I saw the doctor, he was knowledgeable, but seemed disinterested by not making eye contact and going about the motions. He also made himself appear quite arrogant for a first visit and told me he knew more than me. The biggest disappointment came when I was checking out and the receptionists told me I owed $125. I asked what the charges were for and she explained that my eye insurance did not cover the contact fitting the Dr. did. I explained I did not come here for a contact fitting and that I have a box of the same prescription at home. I asked why it was not explained to me before the procedure was performed and all she could say was, "Sorry" By the looks of other reviews for these doctors, it appears that the Sinoways are running and auto body shop and not a doctor's office.
With new companies bringing further transparency to insurance coverage and costs of different local doctors, it is only a matter of time before Eyes on Madison isn??t on Madison Avenue anymore. I may be displacing the blame from myself and being nave, but I expect more from medical professionals and Dr. Sinoway clearly holds himself to lower standards.

Dr. Sinoway did my annual eye exam. He rushed and barely spent more than 15 mins with me (for a $240 charge!). He did not bother to discuss what problems my eyes had and never answered my questions that I asked during my visit. It was pre-Christmas time and he was rushing to leave the office early to do Christmas shopping. When I called later and asked for a follow up visit to get some of my questions answered, the reception replied in a rude fashion that any follow-up visit should be treated as a new visit and I should pay for the visit again. The result - after spending $240 for the exam, I am not sure what issues my eyes have and whether I should watch out for anything.

I ordered a pair of new glasses at that place. It took 1.5 months to get my glasses done instead of promised 2 weeks. After I picked my glasses it turned out that the prescription that was given to me by Dr. Sinoway was wrong. Note, that after I got the glasses, nobody even offered to check my vision in the new glasses. So now I have to re-do the glasses again! Do not go to that place! Terrible service and negligent doctor.

I have had eye exams and purchased contacts and eyeglass lenses from this store. The staff is very friendly - maybe a little shy at times - but never rude. They have one step at their entrance and always help me carry my stroller inside...

I came into Eyes on Madison while visiting NY after my eyeglasses were lost. The staff are wonderful and helped me select a new pair of Chanel frames. George is very charming and did not pressure me into making any decisions. Dr. Park was very considerate and agreed to reset my prescription 2 times until we found just the right lenses for me. I was very happy with the service and the beautiful frames I now have and will definitely recommend the store to friends, and I almost don't regret losing my glasses in the first place.

My husband and I were leaving for a cruise and in dire need of new sunglasses. Also, my husband needed to get his eyes examined. We live right by Eyes on Madison and have never been so it was about time that we gave it a shot. We were VERY happy! George was kind of enough to set us up with the doctor for a quick eye examination. After that, we both picked up sunglasses - I got a cute pair of Christian Dior's and he got a pair of polarized prescription Maui Jims. I definitely recommend Eyes on Madison for anybody looking for the royal treatment without feeling like you're being pressured into making a purchase. Huge selection and great prices. George was a total doll! Have already told all my friends :)

Pros: Great With Insurance Plans, Selection, Near Grand Central

Cons: Gets Busy

I walked into this optical boutique because a friend of mine recommended it. Immediately I was blown away! They had an incredible selection of sunglasses - ranging from Persols, Tom Fords, Pradas and Oliver Peoples. Also, ask for George (the owner) - he was a huge huge help! And he's probably one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I ended up getting these sharp black plastic Persol sunglasses (and he gave me 10% off and no tax!). Give Eyes on Madison a try. They'll have the sunglasses you want and the patience to help you find them :)
