i love the happy hour at casuelita's! i've been there often, my boyfriend more often than i and it's somewhere we'll be going to back to again and again as their happy hour is awesome and the staff so friendly. i can fill up on just a couple of the happy hour dishes as they're really a full meal nicely discounted. i also love that it's happy hour until 7pm. most places stop at 6.

I LOVE this place. It is my favorite bar in Belltown. I have been going here for many years for happy hour. The owners are wonderful as is the entire staff. They pour a stiff drink, which is something I really like, and the food is good.

The food can be a bit inconsistent in that I rarely get it prepared the same exact way twice, but it is kind of fun to be surprised, don't you think?

The bar area downstairs gets REALLY crowded, so get there early (Happy Hour starts at 4:00 PM). They used to allow drinking folks to sit upstairs, but no longer allow that, which stinks in that it gets so damn crowded in the bar!!!

I hate to wait for my first drink during happy hour and I never have to worry about that at Casuelita's, as when the bartenders see me coming down the block, they have my drink waiting by the time I walk in the door. Service just doesn't get better than that. I just have to be careful not to walk past them if I am going somewhere else :)

Awesome food , large portion sizes , great presentation , fabulous Rum bar , make reservations. That being said , I was looking for a place that was within my budget. And this place fit the bill! The first time I went I was overwhelmed by the amount of food you get for the price. The waiters/waitresses were attentive without being obnoxious. I go there quite often with friends and on dates. It's a great place to have dinner before heading over to Jazz Alley. I have only had one bad experience where the wait staff were virtually none existant. That evening just to get a drink we had to practically get out of our seats to ask for one. And the place was not busy....so go figure. I do recommend reservations on Friday or Saturday night if you are going to be having dinner. And the Rum bar is small and gets packed fairly early , so be prepared for standing room only. Needless to say it's one of my favorite places in Belltown.

Pros: Excellent food, drinks, and good service, happy hour is 4-7 and after 10pm

Cons: small bar, happy their only.

The food is awesome and I found the service to to be friendly and attentive.

By the way, people who complain about added gratuity for large parties are annoying. You should always check your bill anywhere you go...don't blame the staff because you aren't paying attention.

I have been going to casuelitas for the last yr and half, I must confess they have really good food and the worst customer service i have ever encounted n my life. Many times i and my friends have been ignored, messed up order by the server yet they have attitude problem. I have sat at the bar for almost an hr and didn't even get a drink that was ordered. My general conclusion or recommendation is intended for RICHIE and JACKIE to adhere to, look for servers with great or excellent customer service skills and experience.

When a customer looses its appetite due to the incompetence of ur staff, it reflects negative on the owners and the establishment.

I have been to Casuelitas 9 times. The food is what keeps me coming back. In every single experience there the exact same thing happens. We walk in, wait about ten minutes while getting completley ignored. Ask 1-4 employees if there is any tables available to which they all reply with a look of confusion and say they'll check. Finally get sat, then continue to be ignored while server after server walks by us. About 20 minutes after that we get water and a promise to be right back. 20 minutes after that the server comes back to take our drink orders, 15 minutes after that our drinks arrive at which time we franticly order our food. Aaaand roughly 45-60 minutes after THAT our food arrives. And please, whatever you do, dont expect a re-fill for your water. When the food finally does arrive it is absolutely spectacular. Literally some of the best I have ever had. But for the love of god can i please just get a little service! I am VERY low maintenace when it comes to being served a drink or food but this place is just absurd. Bottom line, food great, service horrible.

The food here is amazing! In response to other reviews, the food is worth any bad service that you might receive (although I have been there at lease a dozen times and never had a poor service experience). Plan ahead with a reservation (Someone commented that they called on Friday for a 7pm reservation that night??! Really? Not sure what restaurants they go to, but this is a cool spot that is getting more and more attention, not sure how you can be disgruntled about not getting in). If you have to wait, oh well, chill out, relax and enjoy some rum. Also, the ribs are a must have. They are unbelievable!

I'll save you some time and say that out of 5 times that I have been there I have had good service 4 times. Not to be gender biased, but the waiters there are a far better group than waitresses. The girls that fill the water did well, but the main waitress was not so good. She forgot 2 of our items in a party of 4, and then had a serious attitude problem when inquired about the location of such food. It is true what they say about the service...they could give a sh@t! HOWEVER, the food is great! Just be prepared to sit and wait for a while and watch the seemingly lost waitress wander around and wonder to yourself "what is she doing?".

I want to start out by saying that the food is really good. This has been one of, if not my favorite restaurant in Belltown & Seattle but our last two visits have made me want to post a review to warn future customers. The past two times we have eaten here we had six people at our table. We asked for seperate checks but were told by our server that she could not do that. As we came to find out the reason for her doing that is they have a policy of adding 18% gratuity to parties of 6 or more (the menu does not state that anywhere). We understand that restaurants add the gratuity with larger tables but we should know about the charge...our server deceitfully "hid" the charge without showing on our bill the gratuity charge. Since we did not know about the automatic gratuity for the past two visits in a row we tipped our server the 18% automatic gratuity PLUS about 20% on top of that...When we finally caught on to her game we brought it to the attention of the owners. They were pleasant but did not seem to be that alarmed by their employee stealing from us. When you own a company those you hire are a reflection of you...Our servers dishonesty has left a really bad taste in our mouth. If you decide to eat here please look over your bill to make sure you are not being taken advantage of by this dishonest server.

I heard some great things about this restaurant so we called to make a reservation on Friday night. A lady answer the phone, and she said she would not be able to make a reservation unless its more than 5 people. I said " We have four people and hoping to come around 7pm " then that lady asked my last name and she said she would find us a table with no problem.

well, we got to the restaurant and after ringering around the bar area which was packed for about 20 minutes ( no waiters paid attention to four of us!), the restaurant manager (female ) finally said " Do you need help?" so I mentioned about the phone conversation and the manager said " I cannot believe anyone of our staffs said that. There is no table available." We tried to validate the experience on the phone but she insisted that " Its not our staff who said that."

I mean there is no "sorry" or anything?

They should learn customer service. Yes price looks cheap so something has to be compensated.

this place would have to be one of the greatest places in belltown. I would have to say they have great food. Especially for happy hour (my fav is the shrimp skewers). and their drinks are also pretty good.

I just went to the Judkins location of this restaurant and had an amazing meal! The waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful with their recommendations, but most of all the food was amazing! All the dinner entres come with a yummy and very fresh salad as well as coconut cornbread. I cannot rave enough about the cornbread! The j erk chicken I got came with rice with beans in it as well as mustard greens. Everything was delicious beyond belief! The ginger beer is just like I remember it from living abroad, and the j erk spices were as authentic as it gets. For dessert our server steared us towards the haitian bread pudding, and, full as we are, my friend and I devoured every single bite of it! This restaurant is going down as one of my new favorites in Seattle, and I highly recommend anyone try it out!

You walk into this great place with all of your senses immediately filled with elation in knowing that you are about to experience something great! Starting with happy from 4-7pm daily. They have 2$ wells and beer. They also feature and 3,4, and 5$ food menu. Papas Fritas are my absolute favorite. They have pulled chicken, the greatest fritters which you can get in a variety of 'flavors'. A chicken sandwhich to die for as well as coconut prawns, yummy. Me and a friend go there for happy quite a bit and we usually get 4 different apps and 2 drink each and spend about 25 bucks. You cannot beat it!! Dinner is also great. My 2 favorites are the brazillian vatapa and the one dish i wish was always on the menu but is a special from time to time the seafood bouillabaisse. Their Gumbo is also excellent. You pretty cannot go wrong with the food choices there. Now, lets talk atmosphere. Bright orange stucco walls, with carribean art displayed everywhere. You really feel like you are somewhere in the carribean and its like a mini vacation right in your backyard! The bar is quant with stairs leading up to the main dining area. Everything about this place oozes carribean culture. The waitstaff are always happy, nice, and glad that you are there! Always dressed in all black and ready for to serve you. Yes the service can be a bit slow at times but when you are there with friends you don't seem to mind because you have greast drinks and the company of your party. I have also met a lot of people there and you always feel right at home. There is a rum list to die for. It goes on and on so go ahead and try them! All around, this place is great. So please come on down and enjoy yourself!

Love the atmosphere -- smallish, colorful and bright -- and the place SMELLS delicious. We ordered three starters for two people -- and it was like ordering three whole entrees -- TONS of food! We had the ribs: fall off the bone, meaty, and about 8 ribs for $8. We tried the salt cod fritters: just crispy enough and great with the avocado salsa and cole slaw. And we loved the
Camarones Barachos: a plate of rum soaked grilled shrimp with grilled veggies. The only disappointment: the curried goat Id heard so much about. Didnt taste curried and was more like a potroast. But the sweet potatoes are delicious and the basmati rice is seriously addicting. Oh, and we tried the whole fish of the day -- escovietched -- Red Snapper -- and that was rewardingly spicy.

My husband and I just returned from a great lunch at Casuelitas (the sister restaurant on S. Judkins). I had the bar-b-q pork sandwich, my husband had the chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. Best of all were the cornbread muffins loaded with shredded coconut - melt in your mouth! The service was quick, attentive and friendly. I can't wait to try other tempting items on the menu.

The first incident was a few months ago, where we stood by the door for a good 25 minutes and NO ONE helped us. We left - hungry & irritable. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to give it another shot. The hostess greeted us and said we would have a table in 10 min. 2 parties came in after us. One with a reservation, and one without. Imagine my surprise that after 20 minutes, the party without the reservation and with the same number of guests was seated. The hostess said it would only be a few more minutes. Another 15 minutes later, the hostess proceeds to inform us that they were full and could we wait 45 minutes? We waited over 35 minutes so they could give our table away and tell us to wait another 45? NO THANK YOU!!!

The food was wonderful but service was slow as expected. I recommend sharing tapas with friends and having a few drinks. From other reviews we knew the service would be slow, so that wasn't a surprise. Though the food was wonderful the drinks weren't that great. We actually prefer the drinks served at Bahama Breeze in South Center. We also knew the Rum Bar would be small, which it was, and there weren't any seats available to enjoy it. I enjoyed our first experience at Casuelita's, but I wasn't blown away. If only it were bigger and had faster service. In fact, I picture a breathtaking Casuelita's on Lake Union with a roomy bar, tiki torchs, and a breezy patio. BUT I do recommend that you try Casuelita's and make up your own mind. We might go back, but we will try some other unexplored places first.

We've been to the Vine Street location twice. Each time, we've started dinner with another couple by sharing a flight of rums - an excellent way to ease into dinner, and an unusual start of the evening. For dinner, we shift over to beers or their excellent drinks (the ginger mojito martini is extraordinary) and share about six appetizers tapas style. Each offers its own distinct flavor, from the spicy bite of the jerk chickn to the sweet yet tart flavor of the island-style fried shrimp. The food can take awhile, so don't plan to be in a rush. Pretend you're on island time. The service has always been very friendly and attentive; the bartender is especially nice and has given us a couple of good lessons on rum! This is a good option for a date or smallish group (up to six or eight people).

We discovered Casuelita's through a Caribbean friend, nostalgic of the sunshine and spicy food. I am picky with restaurants, but this is one of maybe ten places in Seattle that I like: tasty food, unpretentious, and reasonnably priced. Go there if only to try the ribs... if you do, you'll try the rest too! I don't know if they still have Happy Hour, but if they do, it's a great deal.

This place rocks! It's way better than the chain restaurant in the Southcenter Mall parking lot (Bahama Breeze). We ordered 2 or very appetizer and were satisfied with them all. The flavors were very pleasing. I wish this place was bigger but the atmosphere and food more than make up for the cozy quarters. I highly recommend this hidden gem to all.

What a wonderfully refreshing new restaurant. My husband and I have a love affair with Carribbean cuisine, decor, drinks, and this restaurant was perfect. It's small, but warming environment was very welcoming. The drinks were wonderful and a good value (Happy Hour) and the food was sublime!! Service was a bit slow (a tad understaffed) but well worth the value and the cuisine to check this place out!! I haven't even seen Conch Fritters since the last time I was in the Carribbean! Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Value!!

This is quite simply some of the best food I have EVER had. A wonderful tapas menu, absolutely fabulous soups. Highly recommend the jerk chicken and the Jamaican coconut soup with lobster. This place also has just UNBEATABLE value, fabulous rum drinks, and a fun and casual atmosphere and waitstaff. Not to be missed if you are staying nearby...

I've visited Casuelita's happy-hour a few times and enjoyed it tremendously each time. Their generously-portioned happy-hour appetizers are full of flavors --- just like the food I loved in my recent trip to St. Thomas! The fried conch shell is my all-time favorite, though it is hard to resist the coconut shrimp. Both come with a delicious confetti of a slaw/salsa. The second-floor restaurant space feels private and romantic without pretention.

This place was a huge disappointment! We were first told there would be a 45 minute wait, which we understood. But an hour later, we were told that theres a table being set up for us...then another 30 minutes later, after asking the owner of the restaurant, we were dismissed and told that oh yes, theres a small table, but now we dont have any chairs. Normally Im not one to write negative things about a restaurant, but this incident really turned me off from this place. We wouldve understood if they had told us at some point that the wait would be longer, but to lie to our faces?? The times that we were able to get in...it took an extremely long time to get a drink....they ran out food...they also closed their restaurant early when they considered themselves to not have enough customers. Go at your own risk.

There has never been such a fantastic hidden jewel in Belltown. The staff is wonderful, the drinks and food are great. Go in once, and everyone will remember your name the next time you come in. Casuelita's is exactly what Belltown was missing - a great neighborhood place to unwind and relax without the typical noisy, posing scene you find everywhere else...and the jerk chicken is the best in the city, contrary to other claims.

I absolutely love Casuelita's. The atmosphere, the people, and especially the food. The food and drinks have always been outstanding. I love the feeling that you get when you walk in. Very inviting and comfortable. I would and do recommend this place to everyone I know. Never have I heard a bad thing about this place, except for the other person who rated this place. Must not know a good thing when they see it. Oh well. In my opinion - its a must do!
