Authentic setting outdoors and in - I felt like I was back in New Orleans and ordering a hurricane for a night of frivolity. Slow yet friendly service. We ordered the gumbo, crawfish poboy and a sausage poboy. Took about 30 minutes to get the dishes out which is way too long for a soup that should already be made and sandwiches! There was something crunchy in our file' heavy gumbo - the rice! Shame the file was too heavy/overbearing because the bowl offered the perfect amount of shrimp and sausage. The poboy's were just okay. The andouille sausage was suspect. The fried green tomatoes were red and the red beans and rice tasted burnt.
The waitress offered us free beignets that tasted as if they were fried in the same grease as my crawfish and tomatoes.

The service was very friendly, if slow and the food was surprisingly mediorce. My guest enjoyed the crawfish pie, but the seafood platter garnered very mixed results -- the red beans and rice were inedible and the crab cake had an odd, off-putting taste. The corn bread was good and would have been great had it been served hot (or even warm). The beignets were the biggest disappointment of all - they were doughy and overcooked. Anyone from New Orleans wouldn't have recognized what was served as a beignet.

Super cute new restaurant in Hillcrest. I have been here for cake and coffee in the afternoon (excellent) and for dinner. The food was amazing. You must try the Gumbo!
