April was my midwife for my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies and helped me birth both boys at my home in the water. April has an enormous amount of knowledge, understanding and compassion for her clients. When we decided to have our 2nd child at home, we did an thorough search for the perfect fit and we found that with April. My husband was sold on her experience and knowledge and I, simply felt comfortable from the minute I met her and knew she had to be my midwife. April brings out inner strength and belief in yourself through her empathy, compassion and tender heart. I HIGHLY recommend April to all my friends and others who are in search of the perfect homebirth/natural childbirth experience.

I initially found April from the great reviews online. I'm really not sure how she compares to other midwives in town, but there were some things that I wish I knew first.
First of all, her prenatal care was truly top notch. She took

Our first son was born via cesarean section in 2000 due to placenta previa. I deeply wanted a natural, unmedicated birth and although I knew the cesarean was necessary, still longed for the 'perfect birth.' With our second son we knew we wanted a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). I interviewed several doctors and found that there were not many that attended VBAC's. The ones that did had lots of rules (induction, not letting me go past 40 weeks, ect.) that had to be met.

After more research and watching the documentary "The Business of Being Born" my husband and I started to consider home birth. We interviewed several midwives and were immediately impressed with April. She is the only midwife in Las Vegas that has worked as both a labor and delivery nurse and as a nurse-midwife in the hospital. That experience and training were very important to my husband and I. We felt very safe with April.

Labor began at 39 weeks at 6am. April came over at 8am just to check on me and the baby (I think because she knew I was a bit nervous). She suggested I have breakfast and go on a walk with my hubby. After the walk things really picked up and April returned.

After only 4 more hours of labor our second son arrived peacefully and naturally, just the way we had dreamed! April was a constant support and really helped guide me through the last hour of labor which was particularly hard work.

She helped with breastfeeding and even with weaning when my son was 14 months old.

My husband and I are expecting a little girl now. As we are planning a home birth with April again I am reminded of how great she is to work with.

We love you, April!!

My husband and I recently moved to Las Vegas and were expecting our fifth baby. I have used midwives for all of my births, and have had different ones for all of them except two. I have given birth in the hospital with a midwife, in a birth center, and wanted to try a home birth. Our son was born in January 2010 and it was a wonderful experience. Everything went very smoothly, and April was really supportive and patient. She came over a couple of times in the day or two prior to the birth to check me (we were concerned about my quick labors) and always left telling me to not hesitate to call anytime. April is very caring, but also professional. Her calm and kind manner are great when you're getting the job done. ; ) I liked that she has had experience in the "mainstream" ob/gyn world before she decided to open her home birth business. Somehow that's reassuring to me, although I'm sure you can be a great midwife without that.

I loved that when I went to a prenatal appointment with her I never experienced the feelings that I do when I go to a doctor's office and wait in a waiting room with a bunch of other "waiters" for varying lengths of " a long time." I think I only had to wait a couple of times, and usually I was in and out in 30-45 minutes. She also didn't mind when I brought two of my kids with me to my appointments, which was helpful when I couldn't get a babysitter. All in all, prenatal visits were very low stress.

I really also appreciated her non-judgmental support when I was struggling with nursing. I would highly recommend April to anyone who is interested in trying a home birth.

My husband and I had our first baby with April as our midwife in March of 2008. It was a beautiful home water birth and everything I hoped it would be. I think the labor, birth, and immediate bonding have helped my daughter and I have a close relationship. April recently helped us through a miscarriage. We knew how kind and caring she was at our birth and she was just as kind through this tough time. I think April is one of the best midwives around!?

April, Kim & all the staff at Well Rounded Mama really made for the perfect pregnancy/birth experience. All my questions were answered and I felt like I was part of the family every time I walked through the door. It will be one year this week when our little girl was brought into this world and I remember my home birth like it was yesterday. Thank you for such a memorable experience!
