Kathy, This can be caused by many things. Being that she is a lab?well, that list broadens. Labs are very happy dogs! Very often I see labs with symptoms as you have described from simply injuring their tails by hitting them when wagging! Labs also are known for developing ??Cold Tail?. Has your lab been swimming lately? Cold tail is caused by the propeller motion that a Labrador tail makes when swimming. The muscles become so tired that their tail becomes ??frozen? for a few days. The term ??frozen? is referred to as their tails not wagging or moving. ??Cold Tail? can also be caused by tremendous wagging of the tail. This usually lasts for 3-5 days. YOU DOGS ANAL GLANDS MAY ALSO BE FULL. This often causes some discomfort in the hind end.
Gently, but firmly feel your dog??s tail from end to end. If the tail seems painful in any way, a vet visit would be necessary as this would indicate an injury that will need treatment.
If your dog does not react to the palpating of her tail, it very well may be ??Cold Tail?, as this is not a painful ailment.
Check your dog??s rectal area. If the area around the rectum looks swollen, even slightly, her anal glands may need to be emptied, in which your veterinarian can easily do that for you. The procedure only takes a few minutes.
I hope this helps and please let me know how that Archie is doing!
WE ARE A DRUG FREE ENVIRONMENT and at no time was your dog exposed nor offered drugs!!
I am sorry that you had a bad experience with our manger as most of our clients find her colorful and helpful.
What I can not understand is why you would not sign your review with the name the dog was registered under....are you slinging mudd and bad gossip?
