First, I have been here on two other occasions and enjoyed the food and dessert even though both times they ran out of the steak dish. I went this past Valentine's day (they ran out of steak) so I ordered the chicken which was served with rice and collard greens. In my opinion not a good combination. The chicken was dry and the collard greens were awful. I sent the meal back and ordered something else. Gayle came out to tell me personally how angry she was with me because she said I was wasting food. Seriously, I am not making this up nor am I three years old. What kind of cook can not take "food rejection"? Perhaps she was having a bad night or perhaps she has money issues. I am guessing because every time I have gone - they run out of steak. We even called and checked the menu prior to going. No one said anything about being out of steak. I do not recommend this place.

We didn't have good luck here. We try to frequent the local places, but it didn't hit the mark the evening we were there. Service is very slow. Their excuse is that everything is made from scratch. Ok, we ordered a dish to share--bourbon pecan chicken with sides of mashed potatoes and spinach. Spinach takes no time to cook, mashed potatoes don't take that long, and this chicken dish was simple. So, in my view slow service was not excusable. Anyway, the one small chicken breast was dry. The spinach and potatoes were very small portions. And the price was $14, way too much for the amount of poor food received. (I will admit that a shrimp bisque was tasty.)

Ambience is lacking. It looks like a sandwich shop. Some of the tables had cloths and some did not. The adjoining dining room looked better, but we didn't eat there because the (live) music was too loud. Also, the AC wasn't working that well the evening we were there.

All in all, food not that good. Way overpriced. Service slow for no good reason. Music too loud. Ambience lacking. The web site is appealing, but the real experience does not live up to the enticement of the web site.

This used to be Cindy's House Cafe. I've been to Chatham Street Cafe several times for lunch since it opened and have always had an enjoyable meal. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly. The menu has a nice variety. This is a very relaxing place to go for a meal.
