The doctors and tech's at Donner Truckee are great "family" vets like your Primary Car Doctor and amazing specialist all into one. The know a million other vets that are specialist and they themselves know so so much! Is say this because over the last 15 years I have taken 4 cats and 3 dogs. I think between my 7 pets they have treated everything ordinary and completely bizarre. They have always be availalbe, practical and extremely compassionate. A big thanks to Dr. Otten!

DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY!

9 years ago they told me my dog needed surgery because they found an obstruction in her digestive tract. They called me asked me if I can pay $1500 to save my dog. Of course I would, and so they performed surgery. They then reported that they didn't find anything in surgery, and after she lost half of her weight, they said "Maybe I should bring her home to enjoy her while I can... and oh yeah, can you pay us our money?"

I told them if she lived past 30 days I'd pay them, and I did.

In 2010, our beloved dog nearly drowned while swimming. We brought her to this facility for checking out. The doctor in charge of emergency services said she sounded and looked ok, but to watch for pneumonia. In leass than 20 minutes after getting the dog hom, she started showing signs. We brought her back, and the doctor took x-rays and said "Yeah, she has a lot of fluid in her lungs and will need several days of ICU." Why she didn't catch it the hour before is beyond me. Before we knew it, they prepared an estimate for $1600 - 2300, and then asked for a deposit before starting to care for our dog. When we said all we could write a check for that day was $800, they be-grudgingly took it and started her care.

We saw the dog 24 hours after admitting her, they said she was improving, and asked if maybe we'd like to transfer her to a less expensive facility to monitor her, as we were "cautiously optimistic" and feeling good about her recovery. Again a conversation hinting around money and our ability to pay an exhorbitant bill. I assured them they'd get their money.

36 hours after being admitted and 4 hours from being able to be released, our dog "passed away from complications." Immediatley following that conversation, I had the misfortune of speaking with the technician who said "Although she hated to have to talk about this, we have to discuss your bill...."

NO COMPASSION, just money money money - that's all these people have showed me that they care about. Then she told me that the bill was $2400 total! For a dead dog! For a stay that didn't even last as long as the original estimate!

I've spoken to more than a few other locals that have had very similar experiences with this facility, some even incurring thousands of more dollars in bills to rush their beloved pets to UC Davis medical facility to fix the problem that these people caused.

I can't say enough about the poor bedside manner we recieved, the way money is included in every conversation, the lack of compassion, and just the overall feeling that if I didn't bring my dog there, she'd still be alive.

I only gave them 1 star because I had to post this review. I know it sounds like we're looking for someone to blame for the death of our pet, but I assure you my anger stems from the poor quality of service I recieved both 9 years ago and this last weekend. Add on top of that, the consensus I get from more and more people I talk to about their similar experiences, and I'm left wondering if it's more of a business than an animal care facility.

Maybe their regular staff is better than the emergency staff, I don't know, but I sure wish i didn't bring my dog there - bottom line.

Just wanted to let all the staff know I appreciate the love and care given to my little buddy Duke. He goes most places with me, like this spring skiing at Diamond Peak riding the lift up to Snowflake Lodge. I will look forward to seeing you sometime this week. Donner Truckee Veterinary Hospital is one of the best veterinary experiences I've ever had. Truly a blessing.

The staff is great and I am pleased to share the good news with Truckee...they will be open 24 hours over the weekend and holidays. No more having to drive to Reno, in the snow, with a sick pet.

We really appreciate how Dr. Otten and the staff have always followed up and stayed in touch. Our dog has hip dysplasia and over the last two years we have had to make some decisions in order to make her more comfortable. We live on a fixed income and Dr. Otten has always found a solution that works within our budget and keeps our ??Janey? happy and with the highest quality of life as possible. I think it??s rare when a dog comes into a clinic that she actually wags her tail at the vet and staff!

Dr. Otten and the staff at Donner-Truckee veterinary Hospital are like family. I've been taking my pets here for many years. I live in Tahoe City year round and it's hard to find really excellent services up here sometime. It's been such a relief to have Donner-Truckee Vet to relay. I can't count the incidents that's I've had to pile the kids in the car, because one of the cats or dogs has done something strange or is not feeling well. They always get us in right away and take care of Daisy, Sienna, Boomer or Angel. We also board our pets their when we go out of town and love that they have a service available to walk to the dogs. I think the pets come home so happy and rested like they have been to a spa!

We had an emergency with our do while up in Tahoe and this place was great. The trauma of the moment seemed small as soon as they began operating on the sticker that lodged itself up my dog's nose. They were all very kind.
