We've had once a week meetings since the second week of August 2011. It seems to be helping us with our communication skills.

I didn't know what to do with my relationship. Coming to therapy helped me to see the truth. It was hard and I cried a lot but I learned what it means to live and love and feel whole again. Thank you so much!

It is not uncommon for psychotherapists to work as a team with a client's primary care physician or psychiatrist who prescribes medication. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what's best for you. Many clients prefer to work with a therapist first to see if they can reduce their symptoms or distress without medications. On the other hand, medication alone has often shown not to be an effective long-term solution as the underlying causes of the mental distress or imbalance have not been addressed. Therapy addresses the psychological and emotional causes of clients' distress and the behavior patterns that impede their progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness.

Every therapy session is unique and caters to each individual and their specific goals. It is standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts forty-five minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth. There may be times when you are asked to take certain actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records to track certain behaviors. It is important to process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life between sessions. For therapy to be most effective you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives.
