Well let's start with the Chef. He was very boring and did not speak to us at all. Our waitress was horrible. We had to refill our own drinks by going to the Hostess stand. That happened on more than once. Try three times. Then the waitress lost the credit card for payment. She had no clue that she had even taken the payment. It was just horrible all the way around.

Our family has enjoyed Shoguns in Oklahoma City from the time it was located on N. Portland to its present home in the Northpark Mall, and have always enjoyed our dining experience there. We have made it our anniversary tradition.\n\nShogun's holds a quiet, peaceful ambience to encourage a pleasant experience with its ""hibachi in the round"" format. A party of two can expect to be seated with 1 to 6 other guests, although most recently we had a table to ourselves amid an otherwise busy restaurant.\n\nShogun's special ginger salad dressing is good, but it does take some getting used to if you're accustomed to a thick ranch-style variety. We also upgrade from steamed rice to ham-fried, and splurge on the extra shrimp appetizer which is always beautifully cooked. \n\nWe typically order the Samurai Special, which is a steak and chicken combination dinner. Steaks are cooked precisely as ordered, and most of the chefs are more than capable of putting on an entertaining show. That said, we have had one or two instances over the years where a decided novice was at the helm, leaving the show lacking, and the fried rice under-seasoned, which was a little disappointing. But that's the exception, not the rule. Our most recent visit last December was delightful and in keeping with our best prior Shogun experiences.\n\nWith consistently good food, pleasant service, and rich atmosphere, we have no hesitation recommending Shogun's to anyone looking for a departure from what might be deemed more conventional Oklahoma City restaurant offerings. Enjoy!

A group of 25 of us went to Shoguns for a birthday party and had made reservations weeks in advance for the event. Shoguns called us the afternoon of the event to confirm our reservation but when we showed up (on time!) we found out that our tables weren't even available. We waited an hour and ten minutes until we complained enough to have all of us squeeze into two small tables. Even then, our original tables were still occupied by the same people that were there over an hour ago. After dinner, we spoke with the manager who had the audacity to blame that night's unfortunate events on us. After we turned his argument against him he just gave a non-sincere ""i'm sorry"" and walked off. \n\nOther than that, the food was pretty good. The chefs only do a few tricks at the end which was a little disappointing but they were very nice.\n\nMy suggestion, take your money to another Japanese steakhouse. Ensure that you'll have a great experience for the amount of money you pay.

Pros: good food

Cons: management, courtesy, do not adhere to reservations

.

To talk about the food - The beef and onion soup tasted like it came from a packet. Miso soup would be a better idea. The salad dressing was runny and bland. The chef was boring. The waitress overcompensated by filling my wifes drink up before it was 1/3 empty. To top it all off we got overcharged by $20 for the meal. The manager (i guess who ever answers the phone first) David tells me they only charged the ticket amount and their books added up correctly at the close of business. My credit card company states they credited Shogun's for $111 and David states he only sees $91 and there's nothing left to do. Even if they credit the $20 we will never go back. Sumo's in Edmond is 5 star's next to Shogun's. *** Stay away, stay far away.***

I have eaten at Shogun many, many times. My experience has proven to me that this restaurant has really gone down hill. Half of my food ended up on the floor and the table. The chef- if you can actually call him that did not know what he was doing and certainly did not put on the show you should receive with your dinner. Our waitress was awful as well I had to go to the bar three times to get my soda and water refilled. The fried rice was crunchy, and the chef only put one egg in there for a table of 9 people. When I visited with the manager on duty, Bob, he seemed to not really care. If anyone would like to see the pictures I took with my phone of my dinner that I paid full price for all over the table and the floor behind the chef drop me a note. I will not be returning to this restaurant to say the least.

Pros: The food that they don't drop on the table and floor

Cons: Way to many to list......

.

The food is simply not as flavorful or as well seasoned as Shiki; plus, the menu lacks the variety of shiki. I enjoy a good steakhouse but also like the option of sushi or teriyaki, etc., that Shogun doesn't offer. I love the atmosphere, but the food just isn't worth the $20 per plate...

I have been to every Japanese steakhouse in OKC and Norman....even a couple in Houston. And I always say...this isn't as good as Shogun. The food is excellent and never (never ever) had a bad meal there! They used to be in a shabby part of town (years ago) but they have moved to a better location and the atmosphere was greatly improved! Our family always goes here for special occasions--this is our favorite restaurant!!!!! \r\n\r\nOther places have sushi where this one doesn't. But there is plenty other food!

I have never had a bad experience at Shoguns. Everything always has been great including the host, the service, the cook and the food. I have been to Shoguns alot and never had a problem! I would highly recommend this place to everyone! But I do think the alcoholic drinks are a little weak.

EXPECT ANYTHING LESS OF A TUNA\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nI have been to Shoguns many times & never was dissapointed till recently when I decided to take my 11 yr old there for his birthday. I called 2 weeks prior to make reservations on a Sunday @ 6:00 which I thought maybe better than a weekend. Upon arrival our table was not ready so we were asked to sat in the bar. While in the bar we were never approached or even asked if they could get us a drink while we waited & watched as others were being called to thier table. Finally 30 minutes later we were called to our table as we sat with 5 others & a baby in a highchair & there was 5 of us which was over the 9 limit they had told me at a table. We were very crowded, no elbow room & 1 of my party actually had to sat at the corner of the table on the rounded part. The cook finally arrived WHITE as could be & so did the waitress who was a blonde. I was very dissapointed even before he started cooking & then we find out hes just started & hes a ameteur. SOOOOOOO bad we were watching the Japenese cook across the way. They never even aknowledged my sons birthday or anything. The food was very good but for 130.00 it definately was a BIG DISSAPOINTMENT!!! Think they all left & went to Musashis.

I made reservations and we were seated very promptly. Our drinks and first course was also served very promptly. The chef put on a good show and my entree was cooked perfectly. All of the wait staff were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. We got lots of food for our money and are planning on returning very soon. I definately reccomend this restaurant to friends and am looking forward to my next Shogun experiance.

I used to love going to Shoguns when it was on 50th. I agree that the service and taste of food have not been great as of late. As for authentic Japanese people working there, there are not too many of us that live here (yes, I am Japanese) and would probably work at other places instead. Food is OK and service is too but have had better.

Pros: Still entertaining

Cons: not good for groups of more than 10, hard to talk to friends

We were loyal Shogun diners for over 20 years and have entertained at both the old location (SW 63rd?) and the new location (May ave.) quite consistently. It saddens us to see what was once a wonderful dining experiece become a corporate nightmare. The food has started to lose its quality. The portions are smaller, the flavor less and yet the prices have increased way more than necessary. Also the staff is not pleasent at all. Normally I would not write a review like this, but after having consistently BAD service and food for 5 consecutive visits, enough is enough!

I HAVE to respond to the comment below. First off, Shogun Steakhouse of Japan is a wonderful restaurant with a unique experience--the premiere establishment in Oklahoma. It has been in Oklahoma City for over 20 years. Any establishment in this industry can attest to the fact that service and expectations are subjective. Many people have never worked in a restaurant and have no idea how it works. They also have ridiculous expectations. (In response to the comment below) WE ARE IN OKLAHOMA. How could one expect for everyone in the restaurant to be Asian, let alone Japanese! What a crude statement to be so disappointed that your waitress would be white! I just do not understand why people expect there to be all Japanese people working there! Would they magically flock there? GET OVER IT. Furthermore, it's also hilarious that of ALL of the trained and skilled chefs that work there, not one of them is even Japanese! So ironic. What generalizations we make! You're paying for Japanese food--not people. Let me clear up some other misconceptions about this restaurant that others do not understand. They will not seat you if your party is not all there, UNLESS you can order for the late arriving party. It is a very self explanatory rule for the following reasons: you are seated with different parties who would not want to wait for you to order, you are taking up a table that others who are all on time could have, by not ordering you are pushing the restaurant behind in their schedule. Also, just because there are open tables does NOT mean there are enough servers or chefs to take care of you (especially if you do not have a reservation!!). All tables are not used during the week, and because the restaurant is slower during the week, there are only a set number of waitresses/chefs available. Hopefully people can understand there things and will comment on more appropriate things. The food, ambiance, and service are great. Stop having ridiculous expecations.

We called to make a reservation and they said they were full. We decided to show up anyway. They had several open tables yet the hostess ecsorted us to the bar. We waited close to 30 minutes without having anyone ask us is if we wanted something to drink....They acted as though we were a nuisance.\n\nWhen we were seated the restaurant was still only partially filled and it never filled during our stay. During dinner our chef never spoke and the food all tasted the same. The vegetables tasted identical to the steak. The rice was good and the soup was good as well...\n\nAll in all, not worth the wait.....

I had one of the worst experiences of my life at Shoguns Japanese Steak House. I have never experienced something like this in my life. I ordered the shrimp appetizer to go along with my meal that includes shrimp for $4.25 extra. I received 4 extra shrimp for my $4.25 which is a total ripoff. I talked the manager after our meal to question the lack of shrimp for the price. He said that was the normal serving and there was nothing he could do about it. The menu said nothing about the quantity which I guess is my fault for not asking instead of assuming. Our tab was over $70 and I didn't think the manager would object to taking $4.25 off but I was wrong. I would suggest asking about the quantity before ordering.
