My son and I take lessons here and we both think it??s the best Atlanta has to offer! The fact that the Academy can make us both happy is a miracle (we take from different teachers, so they figured out who was the best teacher for each of us.) I like a more disciplined approach and my teacher is excellent at pushing me (his name is Dr. Stonka) and getting results without pushing too hard. My son needs a more collaborative experience (hmmm, imagine that, as a pre-teen who thinks he knows better than his father!) and his teacher Ms. Lee is perfect at finding that balance and pieces hat motivate and interest him. We actually fight over the piano at home when we both want to practice! Seriously, I am so thankful to American Piano Academy, thought, as it??s brought my son and me closer together as we get to bond over this wonderful instrument. One thing, though, is we have to take our lessons a bit later in the evening than is optimal because the teaching is so much in demand. Ahh, if we could only get rid of all the other students and have the teacher for ourselves!

This is a fabulous outfit! I so love taking piano lessons here, as the environment is very high-end (grand pianos, good lighting, modern - great space), and the teachers are excellent. This is THE only place I know of that just teaches piano lessons (they don't teach anything but piano, so they're very specialized, and it shows!). I took piano as a child, but never learned half of the things I've learned in just a month at APA. I highly recommend this place if you want quality instruction and want to learn the instrument well - and have fun while you're at it. (BTW, love the free Lunch and Learns - keep 'em going, Dr. Stonko!)

Hands-down the best piano academy in town. I've never seen a better teacher than Dr. Stonko in any subject I've ever taken (and I have two master's degrees so I've spent a lot of time in the classroom). I have personally witnessed him teaching every level of the instrument from beginner to University-level. He just has "IT." I've also seen him in classroom setting/teaching at Emory University and he's just dynamic! This was in a lecture class, where I first met him. (Everyone was vying for him as a personal piano coach after the class was over, so it took me a few months to get worked in, but keep trying because I've learned that perseverance always wins out. I think I just wore him down.)

I went into this venture just to get a little background in general music/piano and have been bitten by the piano bug. Goodbye guitar (dang strings hurt my fingers anyway)! Dr. Johnson is also a superb teacher, as I've had some lesson from him while Dr. Stonko was on a traveling teaching stint . Dr. Goddard is good too, but a little more subdued, which could appeal to some people.

I've had problems in the past with other teachers or firms (mostly guitar) with consistency or constant canceling. Mostly these were band members who taught on the side. American Piano Academy is all about the art of teaching?and teaching exclusively the piano. I say if you're looking for a piano teacher and want quality, consistent instruction, look no further.

I??ve been bringing my kids to three different teachers at American Piano Academy (formerly Masters of Music) for over six years now, ever since we've moved to Atlanta. We looked and looked for a place where all three kids would be happy before we found APA.

One thing that immediately impressed us was when they interviewed each of my three kids, they immediately realized their different personalities and learning styles and assigned a different teacher to each based on their different needs. It probably would have been easier to have the same teacher for the entire family, but they took the extra effort for the kids' benefit.

My eldest is getting ready to go to college and said that he's never had a better teacher anywhere (in any subject!) He actually told me he was considering going to college here in Atlanta so that he could continue to study at the academy. (Note: His mother thinks he should experience life away from home.) I'll continue to bring my other two children here until they go to college. I feel like this is our musical home and none of us can imagine life without APA. Each teacher really cares about their learning and their lives; they're like family to us.

When all my chicks fly the coop, my husband and I are going to take lessons from either Dr. J or Dr. B (I hope they??re up for a challenge!). One small note: They are a little pricey, but I think worth it. Five Stars for American Piano Academy - We love you!

As far as I??m concerned, this is the only place to bring your child for proper instruction in the Atlanta area. Both my wife and I are pianists and we interviewed extensively for the right place for our sons, Chris and Todd. Other places had unqualified band members teaching, or performikng keyboardist not qualified as competent teachers. I sit in on each lesson and am duly impressed with my sons?? lessons and how they??re being taught here. I am also able to give some direction, based on my background, to the lessons. The teachers have been open to my input and I find this flexibility refreshing. The previous teacher my sons had actually called me a ??helicopter parent? and told me to back off! Not when it comes to my kids. I want the best and have found it at this place.

As an adult coming back to the piano, I can't speak highly enough of APA. This ain't your father's piano lessons. Dr. John makes my lessons so much fun and informative. I like the way he uses current techniques that have really improved my sight reading (I had never heard of ??Principle of Twos? or ??Cogent Playing Patterns? before starting here but now know that it??s because he developed those concepts). These techniques have literally changed my music life. I am really in awe of how much I've improved. On the downside, the tuition can expensive if you're on a tight budget, but I believe you get what you pay for. The monthly tuition includes extras for adults, though, like free lunch and learn performances (the last one was yummy - good music and good food!), musical collaboration in duet with other instruments, if interested, and voluntary coffee houses and recitals if you want to participate, free music, etc. It seems to me that all of the teachers are super-talented and good communicators, as I took lessons for a few months from Dr. Johnson while Dr. John was on teacher travel.

I have found musical Nirvana! American Piano Academy is the place I've been looking for my entire life. Quality piano instruction tailored to MY needs and objectives.

I'll admit I'm a tough student, as I want to learn what I want to learn. I've had teachers in the past who want me to rigidly fit into a cookie-cutter plan. That doesn't work for me. Or I've had incompetent teachers who couldn't convey concepts. That really doesn't work for me.

My teacher at APA developed a plan for me using proper methodology but addressing my interests. More important than the fact that each teacher has a doctorate (and the inherent benefit that type of background offers), every teacher knows how to effectively convey powerful principles of sight-reading and novel technique.

I have never before had a teacher make the connection of how learning theory helps one play faster, stronger and better - until they taught me. I've improved more in three months than I had in over four years of previous teaching - no lie!

Incidentally, I had a test lesson with each teacher to determine chemistry (and they were amenable to my doing this!) They were all so good I couldn't choose. This is truly amazing to me. I finally let my hectic schedule determine the lesson time (I have a lesson at 11pm!)

I can't speak highly enough of this academy, and I give it my highest recommendation. You'll be lucky to get accepted (as they're pretty booked).
