I was admitted to Gilbert Mercy Hospital for bleeding in the intestines. This is a problem that I've had once before, so I pretty much knew what to expect. But this time, as they were doing one of the tests, they found a mass, a mass that turned out to be intestinal cancer that was attached to my small intestines.

I met Dr. Reitz a day or two later at Gilbert Mercy, but the hospital was going to let me go home for the weekend so the surgery ended up being scheduled at Chandler Regional Hospital.

On the day of the surgery Dr. Reitz began the procedure expecting the operation to last no longer than 2 hours. Because of the size of the mass I needed about an 8 inch incision. When she got inside me she discovered that the mass was not only on my small intestines by had spread and attached to part of my colon. The result was that the surgery ended up lasting almost 4 hours and was much more difficult than expected.

After the surgery it was determined by the pathology that Dr. Reitz had successfully removed the tumor completely - and it was a big tumor. The next day I was on my feet, somewhat painfully, and over the next couple of days my body continued to heal very well.

Dr. Reitz visited often and was very kind and professional. She was concerned about me and how I was doing (and I was doing very well). I honestly looked forward to her visits. She even waved at me one day, from a distance down the hall, when I was on one of my daily walks through the hospital. Many doctors simply ignore you unless they have to talk to you. Dr. Reitz was clearly not this type of doctor. She even went out of her way to get pictures of my tumor so that I could have them.

After I left the hospital I visited the doctor at her offices for follow up visits. She continued to provide the same kind of care and concern that I had seen from her while I was in the hospital.

It is now 5 weeks since my surgery. I've been back to work for the last two weeks (albeit part time for the first week) and, quite honestly, I almost feel like the surgery never even happened, such is the remarkable job that she did patching me up.

I cannot recommend Dr. Reitz highly enough. She is a talented and intelligent doctor and very capable of handling problems or difficulties that might arise.

And I can't thank her enough for the terrific job she did in taking me apart and putting me back together again.

Thank you, Doc, you are terrific!
