This has to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in San Diego. The food was delicious, the service was exceptional, and the ambience was perfect for a date. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice night out.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The mood, food, and staff were extremely friendly and polite. I wish I had more time for myself becuase I would go back and eat all the dessert myself!

This place has great food and is fun to people watch. It's conveniently located in Balboa Park, where all the museums are, so you can stop by for lunch or dinner after your walk or after you've been to all the museums. It tends to get crowded though, especially on weekends, so the wait might be a bit long. The bread here is great too.

This was our first time to the Prado. We absolutely loved it. It was a Friday night and we were seated immediately. We were served water with lemon and breadsticks with hommos right away. The server was attentive and took our drink order and appetizer order really quickly. The appetizer, portobella mushrooms with whipped goat cheese, came immediately, and was exquisite!! My husband ordered the salmon, and I ordered the chicken. The salmon came in a blood-orange sauce with grapefruit and apples. I don't like fish, but I tried it and it really was great, he loved it. The chicken was served over garlic mashed potatoes and garden greens (spinach) with a garlic gravy. It was superb! Hints of rosemary complimented it perfectly. We topped it all off with the recommended dessert, Belgian Chocolate "Othello". Dark and milk chocolate mousse, with carmalized cherries; all atop a soft hazlenut cookie. Perfect for two to share. He had the mojito, which he says is a "perfect classic mojito". I had the mango iced tea, very refreshing. The server was great and all of the food runners were polite and attentive. We never ran out of beverages and dirty plates were removed promptly! Sitting on the back patio at night was very romantic, with a great view of a quaint garden complete with wishing well. The Prado is located right in the middle of Balboa Park, near all of the museums so there is ample parking. If you want to walk through the park, which we highly recommend; it is georgous at night. We would reccomend this restaurant to anyone. It was such a great experience. We will definately be going back!!

My goodness - I do not have enough adjectives to describe the level of excellence at which this restaurant operates. The decor was unique and the food divine. We sat on the patio and were shocked that the meal just kept getting better and better! We had the Kobe beef sushi rolls, mahi mahi fish tacos and the skirt steak beef tacos for lunch. The chef definitely knows what he/she's doing when it comes to beef. YYUUUMMMMYY! My husband and I are still talking about it! The only negative was that our waiter had a ring of white powder around both of his nostrils throughout our meal, which was rather unsightly, (but funny) and he was absent for most of our meal. However, where he dropped the ball the incredible bus staff were right there to pick it up.

The Prado is located in a wonderful setting along museum row in Balboa Park. We have thoroughly enjoyed our 2 experiences at the Prado. We always opt for sitting outside on the patio to enjoy the weather and the activities outside in the park.
Our meals at the Prado have always been well prepared and satisfying. We especially enjoyed the wonderful appetizers and creative salads.
The waitstaff is attentative and knowledgeable.
The prices are medium/high.

All said and done, The Prado is a good choice for a special occasion dining experience in a beautiful setting.

With a friendly, knowledgeable wait staff, an expertly executed menu full of creative and interesting choices, and a beautiful setting in the middle of Balboa Park, this has become one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. Whether you're looking for a light lunch before you peruse the museums, or you're celebrating an anniversary, this place never disappoints.

I would have to agree that the patio is certainly the place to be, although there's nothing wrong with the inside of the restaurant.

They have the best calamari in town - tender, fresh, and tossed with the most tasty asian sauce. It's consistent with the overall concept of the menu: something familiar and classic with an exciting and unexpected twist.

The Prado at Balboa Park has probably the best outdoor patio in all of San Diego. It over looks a beautiful garden in Balboa Park. I have eaten here dor lunch and dinner. The menu is many options and I would recommend any of them. The wait staff was also very firendly. This is a great place to take visitors from out of town or if you have never been here you will also be pleasantly surprised. The prices are not of out of this world either. There also have some specialty drinks that were very good, I recommend the Mojitio or Sangria.

Pros: Great food, great view if dining on on back patio. Right by all the museums

Cons: Sometimes the wait can be well over an hour. Parking isnt that close if you find it, may have to walk quite a bit.

The whole park is such an awesome place to spend a Saturday afternoon. There's museums everywhere with cool exhibits and with San Diego's awesome weather you can really lose yourself just walking around. It's awesome that San Diego offers something as nice and relaxing as this park.

Balboa Park is one of the major attractions in San Diego. Besides being the home of the "World-Famous" San Diego Zoo, it's also home to numerous museums and displays.

As a park, Balboa Park is fantastic. There is so much to do, you can enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather (although it's directly under the approach of large jets landing at the nearby San Diego airport), and have a wonderful day.

The museums, however, leave quite a bit to be desired. None of them are startlingly interesting. The Natural History Museum and Art Museum are disappointing given the size of the city. Smaller museums give even less. To top that off, you're likely to pay for each museum separately--to the tune of $6-12 a pop, because the expensive museum pass is about $55, and would require you to visit upwards of 7-9 museums in one day. Which is just too much.

Overall--great park, mediocre museums. And since this listing is in the museums area, I give it 3 stars.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday lives, we often forget that places still exist where we can go and enjoy natural, the great outdoors, and the world in all its beauty. These places are parks, and this one is hard to miss, because it's right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. Nestled between some of the best schools in San Diego, there is always something new to see and do in Balboa Park. The San Diego Zoo is right on the outskirts, and there are museums, beautiful buildings, and stunning views everywhere you look. You will find yourself surrounded by so much to see and do, that you will wonder what to see and do first. The museums are not free to visit, but there are free days, where you can visit most of them free of charge during specific hours. There are also lots of discount tickets to many of the museums, and there is pretty much a museum for everyone, whether you are into cars, railroad trains, art, or you are a small child. Playgrounds, a train ride (also a nominal fee), and so much more await you when you enter into the world of Balboa Park. I say enter into the world of Balboa Park, because you truly are in the hustle and bustle of everything that downtown San Diego has to offer, yet when you step onto the Balboa Park property, it's like you are in another world, all it's own. Where adventure, exploration, nature, and new discoveries await you around every corner, and there is always something to see, something to do, and some place to go. Once you visit Balboa Park, you will have a hard time visiting other museum filled parks, as this one is one of the best that there is, it's hard to believe a place like this exists in the middle of downtown! Parking can be difficult to find, and if you can take the trolley or bus, I highly recommend it!

PROS: Something for everyone.
CONS: Parking can be a challenge

Balboa is the largest park in San Diego with lots of greens and playgrounds for your little ones. In order to go inside the museum, you must buy the tickets but it's very nominal fee. There are numbers of different types of museums throughout the parks so you may choose your own according to your interest. Enjoy the whole day in the sun with free parking.

I love Balboa Park because of the beautiful gardens and variety of architecture you will find. The park is free and often has free music and events in the park as well. You do have to pay to enter a few of the exhibits which will cost you about $10-15.00. There is a trolley that can take you around to various locations in the park. You will find you time here well spent. And don't forget to enjoy the water fountains and cross the bridge over the road to see the rose garden.

Take a stroll through Balboa Park, and you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful architecture. Many historic artifacts are also hidden in the park. The place i love is the arbitorium where they display the most beautiful collection of orchids. Most of the museums there have admission fees, but during their christmas in the park, they are all free of admission. They always veery enjoyable events there and are mostly all free.
On a regular day, be sure to meet some people playing exotic cultural instruments, or people juggling, or fortune tellers wanting to foretell or advise.
It's a great place to take out of towners to show off the city of SD.

Beautiful and great on a summer day. Nice way to enjoy the sunshine while visitng the museum's exhibits, the scrumptious Prado Restaraunt (where people actually get married!) and the Ruben Fleet Science Center. A lot of things to do for the family or for couples/friends. Food is not cheap there so either come with a picnic basket or be prepared to shell out the dough for hot dogs, sandwhiches or whatever you may want. The greenhouse was very interesting as well and the lily pond outside is just great. Wonderful photo ops.

This little area of San Diego makes you feel like you're not in a city at all! It has so many things to do and see you feel like you must be at some far away exotic vacation spot! Museums, and rose gardens, and organ music, and musicians on the sidewalk, and artist, and jugglers, and just about anything you can think of! Great place to return to over and over. If you are a resident of San Diego or just visiting Balboa Park is definately a place you should check out. It's really good for families with small children. There is so much to do and look at. And with San Diego's weather you don't mind wandering around outside. There are a ton of awesome museums, the zoo, flower gardens, places for picnics...it's got something for everyone. You really need to spend a few days to get it all in. And if you want to save check out the website and see when they offer specials; certain times of the month you may be able to get in free or for a really great discount, it's worth the research!!! Parking isn't bad.

Balboa Park is an incredible city getaway, only minutes from downtown yet it offers a huge park that is great for strolls, shopping and museum going. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the aerospace museum, that houses many different attractions on it's own. Balboa park is great for running, excercise, and many other activities, too!

There are so many interesting places to visit at Balboa Park. Besides the sprawling grass hills, frisbee golf course, and rose gardens, there are also a ton of great museums. The Rueben H. Fleet space Center is probably the most entertaining attraction. I also enjoy the museum of man and the aerospace museum. Overall, Balboa Park is a great place to visit. The big fountain is also fun to watch

If you want to see San Diego at it's finest, go here. Not only are the buildings well designed, everything from the floral patterns to even the little pond is beautifully aranged. At Balboa park you can visit a bunch of the big musems including the Ruben H Fleet Center, my personal favorite. It is also a great place to take kids as well.
