Had Archadeck, (Curtis Crays) as our General Contractor for a 2-story deck, garage extension, dining room extension and front porch remodel. BIG MISTAKE. Curtis seemed to be a great guy; working hard to build his relatively new business. Since we are firm believers in supporting local small business, we chose to work with him.

We were (mostly) satisfied with the sub-contractors, but found that nearly all sub-contractors had problems dealing with Curtis. Curtis bullied and blamed sub-contractors for mistakes that he made, then penalized those sub-contractors by cutting their invoices for payment by amounts he alone deemed fair.

Mistakes made by Curtis Crays cost us thousands, as he did not have the experience to properly plan, engineer and complete our project. When Curtis first came to bid our project, I told him we did not want him as a General Contractor unless he had experience. I told him specifically that if he did not have proper experience for our project, do not bid it, because we did not intend to pay for him to "learn on the job". Curtis assured us he was qualified, but as we later learned, he lied (unfortunately, even with due diligence - researching his reputation and BBB score, we were unable to find any reason not to hire him).

Throughout the entire project, I asked Curtis for cost updates in order to track and confirm that each "sub-project" was in line with standard practices. He assured me he would "get back to me", but ultimately ignored all requests. We paid his invoices in good faith, expecting he would provide requested information, but when all was said and done, Curtis told me it is not his "Company Policy" to disclose costs to clients. Had we known of this "Company Policy" from the beginning, we never would have agreed to work with him.

Our project is, as of this date, not yet complete. Our 2 month project is now in its 7th month. Curtis is still working to complete minor "punch list" items, but our major complaints he will have no part of. We are left with unsatisfactory results, which we cannot resolve because Curtis has been unwilling to accept responsibility for his part of the problems experienced. Instead of working with us to reach an amicable resolution, Curtis has been argumentative and unwilling to hear our views. He bullied me and blamed me for being "negative" until I just walked away.

We are forced to take legal action at this point. Please let our experience be your warning. Buyer BEWARE.
