Dickson Wine Bar looks like a place you'd easily find in a trendy neighborhood in New York City, but happens to be on the far, less popular end of U St. It's got a great vibe, with dim, candle lighting and soft indie music, a kitchen viewable from the lower level and a fairly open upper level. What's cool about Dickson is that everything is biodynamic or organic, from the wine to the food. Not that something is good only because it's earth friendly. But I wasn't impressed with their cocktails, which mix liquor with wine (i.e. their verison of a Mojito, which has rum, lime, mint, agave...and gruet). Maybe I have a sensitive stomach, but wine and liquor don't mix. I felt a bit queasy and had a headache after drinking the mojito. The taste was off-putting as well. Definitely go for their food and wine selection, but be careful of the cocktails.

Pros: great decor and atmosphere, unique dishes, organic

Cons: mixed drinks are off-putting
