Mandy, I can only assume your email and phone don't work as you stopped returning both emails and phone calls at the end of 2010, yet you were on this site responding to posts even as recently as today (1/23/2012)

We still have every piece of paperwork, every contract, every billing sheet. And we still have unsettled business.

It's time to settle this. I won't post all the details of our business here, if you're willing to step up and make an offer to settle this once and for all.

We were never less than civil. We were your "dream team" when it came to sales (your words on the very last day we spoke) and put our names on the line when selling Vestal's services.Since the last message we received from you on 11/9/2010 stated Matt was trying to figure things out (see below), we have not been overbearing, pushy, or even threatening. All we've ever asked for is communication and honesty.

Do the right thing. My email address hasn't changed, though my phone number has. last four are now 0442. Call, text, email, whatever it takes. We want to put this behind us as much as you do.

Exhibit A:

Hello,

Matt has been working on getting everything figured out the last couple days. I will let you know when I know the specifics.

Thanks,

Mandy

First off, Don't be fooled by the good reviews on here, they are fake! They are clearly employees attempting to lure in more unsuspecting customers. Vestal must spend most of their money on advertising and legal problems, because their website looked great and their salesman was very helpful, until he left the company and I never heard from him again. I had a signed agreement to have my siding done by September 30th, it was not even started by that date. Finally they came out and tore off my old siding, exposing old fiberboard that holes all over it. It didn't take a CSI agent to figure out that the holes were from the workers carelessly punching holes in it while removing the siding. I bought sheets of plywood to patch the holes but they refused to put it up even though it states in the original quote that they would replace up to 3 sheets of paneling at no extra cost. The vapor barrier looked like a 5 year old put it up, and I found it ripped off by the wind later that day. The workers were very unprofessional, leaving cigarette butts all over my yard and leaving after working for 45 mins to get to the food bank. My house was left exposed to the elements for nearly 2 months while Vestal dodged my phone calls and refused to call me back. I was promised several times to have workers at the house to finish wrapping the house, they never showed up. Finally I got serious and contacted News channel 3 to get my story (since I saw the story about the poor woman who got scammed by them). Once the siding was done, I inspected the work. I was shocked to see that large portions of siding were only snapped in place, NO fasteners were used! I spent hours of my own time and materials fixing it. I later found out they did not obtain a permit for the work (which is their legal obligation) further prolonging our unpleasant interaction. I found it funny that the second the work was complete they had time to repeatedly call me asking for payment, yet when I had issues they were impossible to reach. My lawyer has approved this review as it is completely true and does not contain any claims that cannot be backed up with documentation.

Bottom Line: STAY AWAY! There are plenty of honest hard-working contractors out there. You might pay slightly more but it is definitely worth it to avoid the hassle of dealing with these clowns. Do your research and never go with the low-bidder.

Business Response:

Kevin, as you know, the siding permit is a newer change, and was taken care of by us immediately, And, the inspection was passed without issue. You never complained to us about the work, until it was time to pay. We had the owner of our company, the production manager and three other employees on your job until at 8pm on both a Saturday and Sunday to complete your job quickly, and then had to wait for weeks to get paid because you did not have the funds to pay us until your loan came through. The contract you signed with us stated that payment was due on completion, not when you received your loan payment.

Vestal Builders, Paw Paw, Michigan Especially Matt Vestal
What should have taken 5 days ended up taking 5 1/2 months. First they ordered the wrong cabinets. Then they ordered a counter top that should have had a sink in it and it did not. I went 2 1/2 months without a kitchen sink waiting for the correct counter top including the sink. They would not return my phone calls. Matt Vestal was always ??in a meeting.? He is certainly NO builder! Not a clue how to use a measuring tape or draw up plans ?? obviously! They made me take care of the trash pickup when they said they were going to. They hired a local installer (by sheer luck on Craigslist) and he was fantastic. He knew what he was doing, but they never gave him any plans. He had to work blind as far as figuring out what went where. He was absolutely frustrated as well, constantly cursing their names. They delayed his payment by a month after he had completed the work. Matt Vestal was at my home twice to check on things and that was it!! He did nothing to earn what I paid him. He's a complete idiot and liar. I would not hire them or recommend them to anyone; took total advantage of both the installer and myself. They have 18 complaints against them on the Better Business Bureau and a grade F. Unethical and irresponsible as far as cooperating with me which is what decent people expect. I was constantly given excuses by e-mail. They should not have a license in the State of Michigan. They specialize in roofing only (as it turns out) and were going to do that work for me as well, but after the poor, seriously below average experiences with this couple, I told them, 'absolutely not.' A formal complaint has been issued against them with the Michigan Department of Attorney General, Bureau of Commercial Services, for a roofing project they messed up for someone else. So they can't even get that right! WOW! These people have no right to practice within the business industry and/or to treat anyone in this deceitful and absolutely horrible manner! I would not put it past them that they paid people to place a good review on this site or elsewhere.

Business Response:

Funny, when someone wants to write "reviews" trashing our work, when we had to file court papers to get paid for the job. Yes, there was an error with the countertop order, which was resolved as soon as the error was encountered. The beginning of the project was partly delayed due to your indecisiveness and your demand that our designer drive around to area retail stores to help you pick out items...find another company that would do that for you. You refused our calls to communicate about the project, and even complained that the over the range microwave was too high for you to reach. We had the owner of our company, the designer and a carpenter measure the cabinets and go over the layouts with you, and you accepted them, until we came to install them.

I worked for Vestal Builders as a subcontractor on three bathroom remodels earlier this summer (2011). After the third job, I told Matt I no longer wanted to work for them when he asked me to do a kitchen remodel. Every job was a nightmare because materials were not purchased on time, communication was terrible, and because Matt, at the time, was being driven everywhere by his wife because his license had been suspended. Also, Matt seemed to have no clue what he was talking about when it came to how things should be done; he was very good at talking his way through problems, but I??m not sure you??d want him actually working on your bathroom, never mind anything structural. By the end of the last job, I decided sitting at home was better than working for Vestal Builders. Fortunately, I??ve since found work with a real contractor.

I could give a long laundry list of things to beware of, but the long and short of it is that Vestal Builder??s isn??t organized enough and doesn??t pay well enough to keep competent subcontractors and employees. They have a rotating door of employees and subcontractors, and it is no wonder. I don??t think they are malevolent and intend to do wrong at the outset of a job; they are just incompetent, disorganized, and lack the moral fiber to make things right to the end if an issue arises. They seem to have no clue about how to run a business. For instance, when I went to work for them, *I* drew up contracts and made them sign them; they had no contracts or agreements for me to sign, and didn??t even ask for a signed copy of the contracts I drew up. The customer contracts I saw were vague and non-specific, and looked like they had been drawn on a napkin.

If you are a sub, you will be constantly chasing Matt for your money, and constantly being fed BS or getting completely ignored. The customers I worked for were being hounded for the rest of the money before the jobs were even completed. I??ve had to take Vestal Builder??s to small claims court to recover the costs on the last two jobs; the judgement was in my favour but I have still heard neither hide nor hair from them in terms of payment. I don??t really want to have a court seizure of property, but I??m afraid it will come to that.

All three of the customers I worked for were happy with my work, but each of them would tell you how much of a nightmare it was to deal with Vestal. I actually just went to the job of the first customer (in October), whose job I worked at in June, and Vestal still had not picked up all the garbage from the job. There are plenty of good contractors out there looking for work in this economy; ask your friends for their recommendations and don??t be tricked by the fancy advertisements and pleasant demeanor of a Vestal salesman. Stay away from Vestal Builders at all costs - the sweetness of a good price fades far faster than the bitterness of poor quality.

Business Response:

Wow, you sure were not complaining when you were asking for jobs, Jacob. Yes, we had a recently hired production manager, and there were sometimes delays in having every piece of material there. As far as me "driving Matt around", that is not even true, yet it is comical. Matt and I have meetings together in town regarding our business, and often stop to jobs together to check on them and talk with the customers. The actual problems with you began when you had this idea that you were going to make up your own charges, and that I needed to drive your check out to whatever job you were on, rather than you having to come to the office to pick it up or have it mailed, as everyone else does. You claim to be an honest person, it does not appear to be so.Good luck with the "real contractor". It seems like you talk so much about how to run a business, you should be able to start your own, instead of having to go through contractors.

This company put a roof on my elderly mother's house in October 2010. It leaks. It has leaked for almost a year now. They have not fixed the leaks. We have 37 pics of the roof job. If you are interested, I can send them to you and you can see for yourself.

Sherry, please post the pictures of the brand new roof that we provided for your mother, when we did not need to replace the entire roof. We went above and beyond, and were repaid for that effort and costs by having your parents steal (yes, they admitted to this) our drywaller's tools. Luckily for them, he is a pastor and feels that filing a police report on older people would be the wrong thing to do.

Make sure you check them out on the Better Business Bureau site....they have been revoked. Check out Michigan.gov for his criminal records of which he has been convicted of home invasion. He also has 2 pending complaints (one is on the site and one is in the process of being filed---process takes up to 6 months) through the Licensing Division at michigan.gov. Their company has no honesty or integrity, they will scam you if they can. You would think that a business with such a good website, advertisement, and showroom would have it together and be a reputable business. However, that is truly not the case. They put all their money in advertisement to scam customers and subcontractors who perform work for them. They get their money when the job is completed and do not pay the subcontractors who actually performed the work. In addition, they do not complete the work they agreed to.

We have submitted to you and the licensing board when you filed a false comYes, Joe, it is easier to trash us online and make up stories than in is to have an intelligent conversation. You were terminated, because you did extremely shoddy work, to the tune of $1400 that we have to pay a real builder to repair. At that point, you submitted fraudulent invoices (one was for over $2,000, when the entire job was only sold for $2,700, which means there would be no profit, sales commission, anything but you). plaint, all of the invoices, and all of the cleared checks that show you were paid. (Please see the rest of my response below, on your wife's fake review, as I ran out of characters allowed.)

Vestal Builders has recently been on the local news for scamming unsuspecting customers and not completing work that they were paid for. The news ran on channel 3 out of Kalamazoo, MI. Their website is wwmt.com. Just put Vestal Builders into their search. In addition, this news indicated that Mandy had filed for a DBA in her name in Paw Paw to open a new business Legacy Exteriors of Michiana and they will be focusing their business in the southwest Michigan/Indiana area. I guess they have scammed all the subcontractors and customers in this area and it??s time to change areas to get more business. There is an excuse from Mandy for most of the complaints on these websites. However, it is not typical to have the number of complaints they do. Excuses do not get you far, own up to the fact that you are unethical, incompetent, and full of excuses and lies---why else would you be supposedly closing Vestal Builders, changing your name, and Matthew being accused of fraud? Please be sure to check out a number of reputable resources for the caliber of work performed by Vestal Builders (aka Reliable Home Improvement??name was changed on insiderpages.com) and/or any business operating under the name of Matthew or Mandy Vestal. Charges are pending for fraud for Matthew Vestal. We have found numerous reviews from customers and subcontractors on insiderpages.com, pissedconsumer.com, topix.com, and various others. In addition, they have countless complaints under the Better Business Bureau. If you have a complaint and/or judgement against Vestal Builders, please go to Michigan.gov and the Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). The web address is: http://www.michigan.gov/lara/0,4601,7-154-35299_35395_35396---,00.html
This is the department that regulates Builders Licenses. In addition, we have submitted complaints and filed a report with the State Police post out of Paw Paw. They indicated there was not enough people coming forward on these cases and therefore, the prosecuting attorney would not pick up the case. However, if more people file with the State Police, I??m sure the prosecuting attorney would pick it up. This is not right for Vestal Builders to continue to steal from customers and subcontractors. Vestal Builders does do a few things right---not answer calls, ignore people once they have your money, make excuses, and run away. Also, beware of any pending business names or future Builders Licenses for the Vestal family.

We sent you a letter breaking down the invoices and the amount you were owed, you did not accept it.You came into our office throwing samples and tore up the material check you were paid. When we attempted to deal with you professionally, through our attorney, you hung up on him. When we are proven right in the situation, which we will be, because we have evidence to support our claims, rather then childish behavior, we will have that same attorney come after you for slander. I can see why you came to us looking for work, rather than have your own work. I doubt we would do the caliber of work that we do for the caliber of customers we have if the things you say were true. Yes, we made the mistake of hiring a bad sales team last year, and yes they caused our BBB to drop from an A, and we were successful in suing the salesmen and are collecting as we speak. The BBB has a 3 year reporting period, so we are held to that for 3 years, regardless of how many happy customers we have.

I worked as an office assistant at Vestal from 2009-2010, up until I had my daughter. I could not ask for better employers! Matt and Mandy cared alot about their customers and employees, even throwing a baby shower on my last day! I referred them to my parents for their new roof and my friend for her porch, and they were all happy with the jobs.

I had Vestal Builders remodel my kitchen in 2007 and finish my basement this year. Both times, my wife and I could not have been happier. We enjoyed the attention we received working with a small buisness, and have given out Matt's business cards to anyone we know looking for work done on their home. My only complaint was that they do not stucco, as that was our next project we were saving up for.

Vestal never returned calls as promised, never ordered materials and I spoke with 6different people including Mandy and Matt and two groups of roofers.

Business Response:

We are sorry for the bad experience you have had and the miss communication regarding your project. As indicated in the letter that I have sent to you, we are willing to refund your deposit, based on the confusion on both parts in order to satisfy you. I have returned your calls, but have not been able to satisfy your needs.

Good work, fair price. Rick was helpful and helped us through the financing process. We were willing to wait a little longer for our job to get done, as it is a small company. We could had a larger company do the job quicker, but we would not have had the same attention to detail with had with Eric and the guys.

Thanks Mrs. Peters, it was great working with you and your family!

Process took a bit longer than I expected, but everything else was a breeze. They made sure they cleaned up everyday and were very careful not to disturb the rest of the house while they were working.

My daughter and used Vestal Builders to help us fix up her first home. It was in horrible shape, as it was used as rental before she bought it. They were very helpful in assisting us in keeping the cost down to fit into her small budget and showing us ways we could make improvements ourselves.

These guys were so helpful. The roofer, Zack, was very patient with our questions and did a great job cleaning up when the job was done.

Made our roof job a breeze! We chose Vestal Builders based on the lowest price, and are happy we did. They finished our roof in less than three days, and it is now the best looking roof in the subdivision. They brought a large variety of shingle samples to our appointment, and took the time to help us decide what color shingle would look best with the siding we have. We have been very happy with our decision.
