They/He came recommended by 2 other neighbors who had Tulze Construction build them fences. However, after an agreement was made (no contract was ever signed) he, Marty Robinson, gave us nothing but excuse after excuse why he couldn't work on the fence.
In November, we hired Tulze to make a shadowbox fence around our back yard. He said he couldn't start working on it until the first week of December since he would be out of town with his family. He didn't actually start framing the fence until the first week of February. After he framed the fence area, we checked the work. He a) used mounted 2x4 rails between the posts vertically instead of horizontally so the posts would show after the "shadowbox" slats were up b) only used 2 rails instead of 3 c) NONE of the rails were straight d) didn't reinforce the gate posts e) didn't butt the rails against the posts at the corners, he just kinda nailed them at odd angles f) worked 4 hour days (came in at 10-10:30, left for 2 hour lunch at noon, left from the job at 4:00) g) maybe worked or 3 "days" a week. In short, it cost me an additional $2,500.00 to fix his mess.
It should be noted that we always paid according to our agreement with the exception of splitting our $1500.00 payment into 2 $750.00 checks and giving them to him upon completion of certain tasks since the progress had been so abysmally slow. He got paid almost $2,000 for a fence that had to be completely (except the posts) torn down and re-done. No point taking him to court since it was clear from other events that he wouldn't be able to repay anyway.
