Exquisite, original, complex yet not-too-complex Italian that pleases all the senses and finds undiscovered ones to seduce. The Cappuccino of Chestnuts, Wild Pheasant, and Chanterelle appetizer was too good to leave a drop on the dish. The lasagna, unlike any lasagna I have ever tasted, is absurdly -- not to say obscenely! -- delicious. The veal, ultra-tender venison, and desserts are all really, truly exceptional. Don't miss this experience. Unmatched.

Everything was spectacular. Food, service, and ambiance. My wife was all dolled up for her 30th and I was
in suit and tie. I heard a famous model was denied dinning due to $1000 pair of jeans. I saw at least ten people wearing jeans and one person , that of course was dining close to us, was wearing jeans, sneakers, white socks and a wrinkled untucked shirt. That wouldn't be so much of an eyesore accept he was also loud. Please bring back the dress code. Diners can be as loud as they want, just dress accordingly. They're not serving hot dogs and there aren't any bleechers at Fiamma. Show chef some respect.

Pros: What aspecial treat. I tried the veal tongue.

Cons: Dress code has been terminated.

Best "Dining" experience in New York. Top marks for food, decor, ambience, wine list, professional service, price, consistency make for an unforgettable experience without fail at this highend NY/Italian restaurant. Quiet and romantic, it's perfect for business or for a special occasion. Any individual component may be beat in many restaurants on any given evening, but the gestalt is incomparable? Been back over two dozen times.

I had one of the best Italian meals the other night at Fiamma. I did not realize there had been a chef change and renovation of the restaurant, but wow, what a change! It is a price fixe menu and they also offer a chefs tasting menu (not sure if they did this before). I decided to have the chefs tasting menu to try out all sorts of different dishes and get a feel for the chefs direction. I must say, each dish was very different and suprising, with top-notch ingredients and preparation. On the night I went, I had burrata, crab, pasta, lamb and a few other courses including dessert. I really loved all the courses, but my favorite was the lamb. It was so rich and tender and literally melted in my mouth. They also have a superb Italian wine list and how can one resist a nice Barolo? It can be pricey, but it is definitely worth it.

I went to Fiamma this past weekend for the first time since the new chef took the helm, and was absolutely blown away by both the food and the service! From the moment the reservationist picked up the phone until the manager wished us a good night, everyone on staff was both professional and friendly. Our server was very knowledgeable on both the food and wines, and was really helpful in assisting us with choosing our 5 course menus (there is a suggested one, but we were free to create our own as well). The chilled tomato and lobster soup, the lasagna, and the cherry wood smoked lamb were the real stand outs that evening. Most of the food we had was very rich, and the portions were fairly large; it took us a good 3 hours to finish. We never felt rushed or crowded, even as the restaurant filled up around us. The manager was by the host stand as we were leaving, and seemed to take a genuine interest in how our evening had gone. All in all I thought the evening was worth every penny!

Not sure what this last poster is talking about. I live in the neighborhood and dine at the bar at Fiamma approx. every other week and they have never even had Osso Buco on the Menu? The bartender always takes superb care of me and knows his way around the menu and winelist. Either you are confusing them with another place or this is a baseless "smear" piece.

Ate at Fiamma last week and had an amazing time. I had tried the chef's food before so I knew I was in for a great meal, yet I was still taken aback. My guest was a certified 'picky diner' so I was worried her restrictions would hamper the evening, but the server went out of the way to explain the menu to her and make suggestions, and in the end she loved everything! I did the 5-course menu but my date only wanted 3 courses, and not only did they let us do that but they sent her out an extra course so she wouldn't have to sit and watch me eat.

My favorite dish was the duck. It comes with a special sauce that is poured table-side. The flavors are incredible and the French service is also a nice touch.

The staff was professional but friendly - not stuffy like in other fine dining restaurants. The maitre'd was happy to move us to a different table when we asked and remembered our name on the way out! We will definitely be back.

Had a lovely dinner this week at Fiamma. Service was good -- and we ordered the chef?s tasting menu. Some things that really stood out -- the asparagus appetizer, which was striking to look at ? slender butter poached white asparagus, crumbled pecorino and dabbed with foams of sweet pea and nepitella, and some lemony tempura fried sorrel leaves. Next came the pasta course, this one was like a tortellini primavera. The pasta was filled with lemony ricotta, and was tossed in a light but meaty broth with slices of baby artichokes and marjoram. The pasta was topped with parmesan and flecks of lemon zest and garnished with bright yellow pea shoots and celery leaves. The skate was also very good, with mussels and a spicy seafood broth. Our baby lamb was tender and was accompanied by a casserole of spring vegetables, yellow and green beans, peas, fava, and baby zucchini studded with fresh mint. The chocolate dessert was sumptuous. Would definitely go back, especially to try some of the other pasta dishes. Buonissimo!

We had a beautiful evening at Fiamma. The whole place is very discreet for the fact that there is constantly someone around you to service. Food was very good- my friend had the clams (whcih were huge for an appetizer) and I had a very interesting salad with friend beans and an egg. Followed by lasagne and Aragula risotto there wasn't even enough space for dessert but we had to get one and were not disappointed: 75% chocolate mousse with something like mint foam and roasted pistacios- absolutely delicious!!! The cocktail were too strong in my opinion. They tasted like pure whiskey. And the tables are very high and chairs very low. So you feel like a little child sitting in front of your $85 three-course-menu...

This was a great restaurant at one time! I don't know what happened. The service was terrible but what made that even worse was that our waiter thought he was the best. I thought to myself "could anyone be more snooty then this guy" but that question was quickly answered when we asked to speak to the manager. We complained that we had to ask someone to find our waiter every time we wanted wine poured from our bottle and that our main course was a small piece of meat surrounded by four medallions of fat. He fixed everything by placing our bottle of wine on the table so we could pour it ourselves and by sending over two deserts for the table to share. We refused the desert and asked for our check. Also he should loose the phony French accent!
The one plus is that they do have a great wine list, it is too bad it so hard to get it into your glass.

Ate here a 2nd time and experience was vastly worse than the 1st. Not the food; the food was decadent which is one of the reasons I returned, but the service was shameful and snooty.

I rated food a 4.5 because it is a prix-fixe so there is not a whole lot to choose from and all the choices have small portions.

I rated service 1.5 since the hostess and coatchecker was nice and we were seated on time with our reservation, but all else was inexcusably well below par. Our waitress clearly had a chip on her shoulder, with obviously cold eyes and exerting only the most minimalistic effort with the specials and wine, serving it just once.

When she served the courses, she literally just plopped them down and vanished before we could even thank her for it. Then she left us alone for 45 min while we ate, and only returned to ask if we needed anything with our meal after we were clearly done. Yes, this happens when restaurants get busy, but her coldness was undeniable and way too apparent for that to be the case. All I can say is you could see it in her eyes that she didn't care and that made the difference for us.

After ordering dessert and coffee, dessert came in a reasonable time but the coffee didn't make it for another 30 min. No apologies, no explanations.

Took another 30 min to hail the water guy to ask for the bill. She brought it and then disappeared. What happened to good service and people realizing that even in expensive restaurants, a healthy tip still has to be earned? Some people really deserve that upscale rest. position, while others don't, so stop using it as your own personal power trip! You're not immortal, and no, you're not all that.

Overall, the food was fantastic but the service is the reason I won't be returning. There are plenty of restaurants in the city with great food AND great service in New York, so please don't waste your hard-earned $ and time on this one.

I am ecstatic! I had at Fiamma the most memmorable meal ever!!! how is it possible to portray such incredible edible culinary art....Fabio is the most talented chef in NY and the fact that the restaurant is in Soho makes it even better, accessible, fun, misterious, fashionable....Fiamma has it all:the look, the class, the romanticism, the location, the service....impecable! Let the chef create your menu, you will never regret, and let your senses start working, worry no more, since the staff will take care of everything else.....don't forget to do a wine pairing, always recommended.....
If you want to impress a date, or simply enjoy pure flavors Fabio Trabocchi's Fiamma is the place!

I was looking forward to dinner at Fiamma, especially after the great review by the Times. A friend and I went on a Saturday night. The service was great and people were very friendly. However, the food did not live up to my expectations, especially for the price. I got a five course prix fixe meal ($100) and most of my dishes were average in taste or salty. The sepia was good, but not great, and certainly not the level of taste I was expecting. I wanted to enjoy the lasagna, but it was so salty I kept asking for more bread to eat with the lasagna. I also had wild bass, which was good but not outstanding. By the time I got to the rib eye veal, I was so full from eating bread and drinking water that I only got a couple bites in before having to put my fork down.
Hopefully my experience was an aberration; but, unfortunately, I won't be returning -- there are too many good restaurants in nyc to enjoy.

I loved this place...Excellent service from beginning to end. Waitstaff very knowledgable with menu. Provided great recommendations. Also, it is possible to order a few things and not be bombarded with greasy plates and too much food. Tasteful decor, lighting great. nice romantic atmosphere or even good for company dinner.

Looking forward to another fabulous dining experience, I was surprised to learn that the original Chef has left the building and the new management pretty much replaced the entire staff (I only saw one familiar face). Nontheless, I kept an open mind and was more than willing to try the menu.

Unfortunately that's where my enthusiasm ceased. The food portions were tiny; more suitable for "Sheba" the family cat than the clientels of an upscale Soho eatery. As for the taste, it was disguisting...please tell me in advance if you were to serve me "brain" aka "soft bread". Gone were the impeccable old menu with tasty treats like the Gargonelli (sp?) and the fabulous waitstaff. Instead, the management decided to replace the place with an overhyped/untalented chef and a "flock" of robotic waitstaff.

Btw, do not waste your money on the $85 Truffle Rissotto...it's nothing more than Truffle oil with rissotto served in microscopic poritons.

Guys, c'mon this is MANHATTAN, do you honestly expect to survive with food my dog won't eat?!! Please bring back the old chef.

Fiamma is one of my favorite restaurants and Danielli is an excellent manager. The other reviews here sound like out of towners; waiting 25 min for a table is expected in New York and reminding people at restaurants about birthday parties should be a given. We've had many birthday parties here and I'm planning another. They are more than perfect when it comes to food and service. I'm also Italian and know great italian food when I have it. Perhaps the others are accustomed to checkboard tableclothes and lots of red sauce?

This place is golden. Period. Skip Babbo and Battali's over salted and over priced food.

Cons: Can be a little noisy and getting reservations is tough. That's because it's so good.

The service was elegant and unassuming- However, the server's continual addressing of my wife and myself as "ladies and gentlemen" was emblematic of how pretensious the experience was. The clams were moving on my dish as it was served- obviously intentional as an effect only- and while the food was good, it neither great or memorable. For the prices, one would have expected better.

I would not return- but it was definitely an interesting experience.

I took a good friend here for his birthday. When i confirmed the reservation, the guy I spoke with was very friendly and assured me they would do a little desert birthday surprise for my friend. I even called and reminded them again, and they said they would make sure there was a note of it and the waiter would bring out something for his birthday for desert. The place beautiful, loved it. Everyone from the host to the waiter, bartender, etc, was very friendly and attentive. We did have to wait about 25 min, even with a reservation, but no problem with the cute lounge they have.
The meal was delicious. Mozz., tom, basil app was fabulous, pasta with shrimp and lobster was great (a little too al dente for me, but still yummy) and the sea bass and steaks dishes were delicious, well prepared, and good sizes. THey even give you a little box of chocolate after dinner. EXCEPT, after all that reminding and assurance, no one did anything for my friend's birthday :( I was dissappointed at this, but all in all, an great experience and I would love to return.

Perhaps it was the location of our table, but the entire experience was a circus.

On three separate occasions, waiters (who seemed like harried bus-boys), dropped trays of food on the dining floor. Were they so behind on orders (we did wait a LONG time for dinner) that they needed to sprint? Sitting in the aisle, I was constantly jostled by their staff as they flew by. And, the wine pour station was literally at our table...that's silly.

The lamb was decent, but our black bass cold. Definitely not worth the prices. And all very salty.

To punctuate the end of an awful night, they spilled the "complimentary" desert accents (yes, everyone gets them...). We paid the bill while watching pools of sorbet shakes congeal on our white table.

Stick to Blue Water Grill if you are looking for a BR Guest locale. Otherwise, plenty other 5-stars in NYC to choose from.

They went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel relaxed and pampered. The hostess even gave us her card, so we could get reservations at another restaurant. The food was just as outstanding as the service. The presentation and combination of flavors were amazing. Don't skip dessert! We honestly loved every course of the meal. This is a restaurant we will keep on our short list in NY.

I was taken to this restaurant for the first time on Valentine's Day and I still have cravings for the garganelli! It was cooked to perfection and the portion, albeit smaller than what I was used to, was actually perfect and I finished the entire plate. My date ordered the taglioni and he thought it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the octopus appetizer (polipo) and thought it was disgusting. I couldn't even finish one bite. The capezano (scallops), on the other hand, were quite good. There were two things I didn't like about the restaurant: 1- we were seated VERY closely to another couple. So much so that I could hear every word of their conversation! We were sitting so close I felt like they were part of our table. Even to get to my seat, the hostess had to move the table aside so I could squeeze through and then moved it back. 2 - The coat check was in complete chaos. Apparently, all the coats are taken to the second floor and since we were dining on the first floor, we had to stand around the cramped entry space while a woman went upstairs to look for our coats! That whole front area was crowded full of people waiting for theirs. There was so little room that we were forced to stand on the stairs, which didn't help much with the stream of people coming DOWN the stairs. However, the coat check woman was quite apologetic about it, and she even helped me into my coat instead of simply handing it to me. Also, our waiter at dinner was a bit curt, not very friendly at all. But the restaurant definitely made up for it with complimentary petit fours and a small gift bags of chocolate! Would definitely go back just for the garganelli!

Pros: Perfectly cooked pasta, nice ambience, friendly hostess/coat check person

Cons: Tables were too closely packed in, coat check was in complete disarray

This has to be the biggest rip-off in NYC. The food is not good, the drinks are obscenely expensive , the tables arent comfortable either. The entrees prices are outrageously high and totally unwarranted. I dont mind paying good $$$ for quality, but this was anything but quality. It is sub-standard food and as far as Im concerned , not suitable for human consumption.
Even the bread was bad. The wine by the glass was between 16-18 dollars. Thats insane.
Save your hard earned cash and go someplace else.

At first it looks like a really wonderful place.
The staff couldnt be any nicer as long as you keep ordering $18.00 wines by the glass. This is obscene. You are not told that the wine is 18.00 per glass. The bread is lousy which should be an indication right there about whats to come. Then they put down some lame cannelini bean dip on your table, which is gratis but is lackluster and bland.
The appetizers were horrific and the entrees were even worse. The lamb was fatty and there was hardly any meat on the bone. The salad was small and didnt even have a single tomato in it.
The desserts were not good . When we stopped ordering wine , then the waitress Ilona A. stopped coming to our table. She was so nice at the beginning and then once we ceased from ordering the overpriced libations she could care less about us.
I really would stay away from this place. One can find a really good Italian dinner anywhere else in Manhattan. This is not Italian food and whatever it is , the quality is substandard with huge price-tags which are totally unwarranted.

Just returned from a dinner there with my girlfriend. The building is impressive, the ambiance and service is great... but I came to enjoy delicious food, and that was missing. Very average pasta and a dessert that just lacked spark. Nothing terrible, but not a place I would return to, especially not with these prices!

seriously why do people go back....the food is good at best ....the wine list marked up 8 to 900 percent...true diners should know this...save your money ...there are a few other great spots in the area to get top notch italian.. try Dani just north of spring on hudson...blows it away

I was thoroghly disappointed. A friend and I popped by to have a glass of wine at the bar, which was fine, but then we decided to split some pasta. It was cold and mediocre. Then came the bill -- over $90 for 4 glasses of wine and 1 pasta dish (amount included 20% tip - the bartender who served us was great).

I had a wonderful meal on Christmas Eve I doubt that I would go back as a regular diner. Working in the restaurant industry I was able to get 'hooked up". Though the food was solid, nothing was spectuacular, and nothing that made me say "WOW". The standouts were definately the foie gras app with persimmon and cippolini onions. The rich foie with glazed persimmon was contrasted very well with crispy cipollini onions. The scallop, although cooked very well, was underseasoned and was served a bit too cold for my taste. The three of us diners shared three pasta courses. The standout was the garganelli. The pasta was, for my taste, very well cooked. A guest with me described it as "buoyant". It bounced back in your mouth as you chewed. The rich cream sauce was balanced my the salty prosciutto and gamey quail. The gnocchi was nice as well. Served with porcinis (a fave of mine) and braised oxtail, it seemed a bit salty and would have benefited from a bit more gremolata. The gnocchis themselves were very made, not gummy, and light. The black trumpet and artichoke risotto was mediocre. There was not a whole lot of love put into it. The flavor was lacking and it was not as creamy as risotto should be. We again shared two main courses of halibut and duck. The duck had a very nice duck-y flavor but for my taste was a bit overcooked. The garnish or swiss chard, chestnuts and pomegranete honey was very tastey, very wintery. The halibut was moist and flavorful but was perhaps cooked a bit too hard and the crust on the outside was almost tough. The cauliflower, porchinis and and sunchoke puree all worked very well together. We recieved four desserts which were all nice. The chocolate and marshmallow torte was very very rich. A chocolate lovers dream. The pear in puff pastry with cheesecake and pistachio was nice as well. I enjoyed myslef but if I had to pay full price, I may have been dissapointed, though a beautiful restaurant for a date.

I flew in for a special occassion, and the staff lost my reservation. I was left on a Saturday night with no where to go - there are plenty of good restaurants in NY that lack their arrogance and stupidity! I can't beleive they don't know how to make a reservation - especially when I gave my cell number and the name of the person whose birthday we were celebrating.

Great, hip atmosphere and absolutely amazing food. Appetizers are wonderful and inventive. I recommend the scallops for the entree and the 5-cheese plate for dessert. Cocktails and wine list are right up there - have a drink upstairs before dinner.

I'm not pleased to right this review. It's not that I had a bad meal, it's more that it was just good and this place used to be awesome. All our apps. were served cold and the flavors were not as bright and flavorful as they used to be. Sorry guys.

The first time I went to Fiamma for dinner, it was a fantastic experience. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairings, and our server was wonderful. She knew all about the food and wine, and made the experience really enjoyable. I went back last Friday with my boyfriend's parents. Major mistake. Our server could not even recommend a wine off the wine list, and told us that "he only works there when he wants to because he's been with them for so long." He could barely get the specials out of his mouth. Needless to say, at that point I should have asked for another server but my boyfriend didn't want me to look too "New Yorker" in front of his parents. We sent back the wine because it tasted like they'd literally watered it down and also had to send back the lamb, which we'd ordered medium-rare and was still cold inside. I will not go back. Too bad, because it was a great experience the first time!

This place is great but don't bother to go during Restaurant week. It's too crowded with people looking to nickel and dime there. You won't get the regular menu and it's just not the same when you are in/out of the place.

If you are looking to wine/dine in a nice environment, then go here... It's fantastic.

While the food is superb, and the service is top-notch, I feel that my dining experience here was not of the highest caliber because I dined here on a Sunday night. I surmise that the upstairs dining room was closed, so I did not get to ride on the glass elevator! The food was delicious, and the presentation was good as well.

This is a must if you're looking for a classy restaurant. Two floors, beautiful ambience, great food. We chose to eat upstairs. There's a bar up there with a few tables where you can start off the evening, perhaps a bottle of wine that can be taken to the table. The service was great. Our waiter was very attentive, recommending dishes, describing them beautifully and then checking on us a few times to make sure we were happy, which we were. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it for a special evening with a special someone.

Fiamma's food, service and wine selection are all superb. I had the short rib and it was incredible. The Octopus appetizer was also delicous. Service at Fiamma is unparalleled. The waiters are knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. Just be prepared to pay, as the menu is a bit pricey.

Everything that Fiamma has served us has been simply excellent - the quality of the food is amazing, and the dishes are inventive. The ambience is nice -- cool lighting, well decorated. The service is perfect - the servers are very knowledgeable both about the food and their great wine list. Overall it's on the pricey side, but well worth it.

My husband and I came here for a special occasion - our first wedding anniversary. This place really went over the top to make us feel unwelcome. First, I had called ahead to ask if we could bring a bit of cake since it was our anniversary and wanted to do the traditional thing. NO! the woman replied. So we showed up with our reservations and even though the place stayed pretty empty throughout the night, they seated us right next to the swinging kitchen doors. When my husband asked for some recommendations on wine, the sommelier got really smug and said something like "well ALL of our wines are smooth." He might as well have added a "duh" at the end of his sentence, he said it in such a rude way. So the food was truly divine, no complaints there, but it just wasn't worth enduring the service.

Went there last night with out of town clientel. Everyone loved the food. Everything from the pasta tasting to the dessert was exceptional. Good value as well. Would go back there again. Service was attentive and always there when you needed something. Did not feel rushed to leave as it was pretty crowded when we finished. I recommend the butternut squash pasta. Best pasta I have ever had!! Easy to make a reservation and parking outside the restauraunt is not bad if you get there right before 6PM. Street parking after 6PM on Spring St between 6th and Sullivan.

I took my boyfriend to, what used be my favorite restaurant, Fiamma, for a special occasion. We were greatly disappointed. The wait staff, which usually are quite attentive and complement the experience, were awful and unhelpful!! The food was waaaaay overpriced and the portions seem to have shrunk! Even the ambienance has changed to casual, people were very dressed down. Typically, the atmosphere is romantic and elegant, where sneakers aren't appropriate, which I enjoy-- It used be a place to get dressed up, have a great meal, eat amazing desserts and be waited on. Not the case anymore. I will not be returning. What happened?!

My girlfriends and I are self-proclaimed foodies and keep coming back to Fiamma to try everything on their ever-changing and beautiful menu- a tough task. Everything is really to die for- you'll dream of the garganelli (the best pasta in NY) in bed at night well after going. But the best part for me and my friends is hanging out at the bar with a sampling of desserts, some espresso, maybe a chocolate martini, and Peter, their sexy and funny bartender (he's usually on the upstairs floor, we've found.) Enjoy!

And wonderful service. Our group ate there for the first time and it was a pleasure from start to finish. Ronald, our waiter, was friendly and helpful (one of our group had a particular food allergy and the chef modified an appetizer for that person's need). We had the scallops, veal, duck and cod, all delicious. Best part was the desserts, and the extra services they gave us, and we were treated with the utmost respect and attention. Truly, a delightful evening.

The pastas were some of the very best I had in my life. The service was perfect, Alexis is great! It was our first time to Fiamma and we will definitely be back.

I love Fiamma. I have been there many times since the opening, for drinks, apps and long wonderful dining experiences. Sitting at the bar on the second fl to me is the place to be, you have the bartender (most recently a very attractive guy named Peter)all to yourself to explain the menu and serve you undividedly. I highly reccomend you try it.."Buona Sera"..

I brought my parents to Fiamma Osteria for their 45th Anniversary two nights ago. The service and attention to detail were stupendous; the food and presentation--dazzling. A well-known New York personality was sitting at the next table but we felt that we were treated as if WE were the special ones. At the end of the meal we were given not one or two extra treats but three, including some chocolates to take away. Excellent scallop appetizer and wonderful veal ravioli that night. Very highly recommended.
