I ordered a sectional sofa from the through their make-an-offer option (scam). Their sales manager immediately called and accepted the offer. Originally I was supposed to pay a deposit with my credit card and the rest in cash on delivery (I know this was supposed to be a red flag but I was a bit overworked that week and not paying enough attention). They never charged my credit card and said instead to pay full price in cash on delivery.

Upon delivery, one guy collected the cash and drove off while another one was unloading the couch. He made sure to do as much of the assembly as possible without un-packaging the couch. Sure enough, IT WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SOFA. I called them up and their sales rep said there is nothing they can do at the moment and to call back tomorrow. Meanwhile, the delivery guy just ran off, leaving a mess and the wrong sofa in my living room.

Next day I called and got the runaround - first they said I should ship the couch back to California, then they said I should pick something else from the site, then they said they had the right couch but in a different color. Finally they said they can order the correct couch but it would take 2 months.

I made several more calls demanding my money back and that they collect the wrong sofa. After the first couple of calls, the "management" - i.e. the people who sold me the sofa, were unavailable.

BEST PART: I decided instead to speak with their (not too bright) sales rep and asked pointed questions:

I asked him if they were aware that they sent me the wrong sofa and he said yes.

I asked who authorized that and he said it was "management".

I asked why they knowingly sent me the wrong sofa, he said they hoped I wouldn't notice and would be happy with it.

I asked if they intended to refund my money or deliver the correct sofa, he said he didn't think so.

I have since reported this scam to the BBB, Department of Consumer Affairs (311) and am going to file a small claims suit tomorrow.
