After our trip & leaving our little dog with Patty for 5 days I should have listened to my gut feeling before I left.
I met with Patty at her house and went over feeding, sleeping arrangements, etc. When we came the morning to drop the dog off Patty acted like I hadn't told her anything. She was reluctant to let my husband see her house, although I insisted because he wasn't with me at the initial meeting. She was very rude.
The dog didn't eat what I had left and Patty fed her raw food which made her very ill. I had to take the dog to the Vet when I returned.
Also, the dogs crate was spoiled and dirty. The dog herself had soiled herself because she had been ill and hadn't been cleaned. She smelled terrible and was shacking in fear.
I would never, ever use this service again. I warn anyone that loves their dogs to shy away and fine some place else. I can't say enough bad things about Patty's Precious Pets.

I have to agree with these last few bad reviews. I tried Patty's Precious Pets and had a very similar experience. Please excuse the length, but my experience was so bizarre and I feel like I need to fully warn people. This was more than a year ago and I still think about the horrible service I received here.
I was initially excited about finding an in-home dog boarding option so close to my home. I met with Patty at her house a couple of days before my trip and brought my dog along. She told me to call ahead so that she could put the dogs in the backyard before I arrived to keep them from barking. I called about 10 minutes before I got there but when I arrived the dogs were in the house and barked. The initial visit went well, no red flags as to the weirdness that was coming. My dog got along with her dogs and her house and yard looked like a clean, great place for my dog to spend a few days. I confirmed my flight time with her and promised to call ahead when I dropped my dog off. All seemed well.
Now the weirdness begins:
The day I left, I called just as we had agreed. She answered the phone by saying "What?!" and seemed confused when I told her who I was and that I was on the way, even though I'd been very clear about my schedule. When I got there, the dogs were not in the back yard and barked non-stop as soon as I pulled the car up in front. It was pouring rain and I ran up to the door and set my dog's bed and food under a small overhang, but they were still getting rained on a little bit. I went back to the car and got my dog (mind you, her dogs are barking this whole time, when I thought the point of calling ahead was so that she could put them in the yard so they didn't bark.) When I knocked on the door she answered in her bathrobe and again seemed confused about who I was, even though we had just spoken on the phone. When I said I was dropping my dog off, she grabbed my dog and shut the front door in my face. She didn't even say anything. I was really weirded out, but thought that maybe she was going to put the dogs in another room and come back (she had been VERY clear that she wanted to be paid before I left, rather than when I came back). I stood there for a couple of minutes but it became clear that she wasn't coming back so I knocked on the door. She answered with her apparently customary greeting of "WHAT?!" and I said that I had to pay still and that she hadn't gotten my dog's bed or food. She said, "Just leave it on the porch". It was POURING rain and I was paying in cash! So, not knowing what else to do, I put the cash in the food bag and left it all out in the rain, hoping that she wouldn't leave it out there for very long. I was so weirded out that I almost cancelled my flight and went back to get my dog. I spent my whole weekend worrying that she was going to claim that I hadn't paid her, since I had no receipt and she was acting so strangely.
When I got back from my trip it was more of the same strange behavior. I called ahead and she was confused. Despite my call, the dogs were not in the yard and barked at full volume upon my arrival. When I pulled up, the food bag and dog bed were sitting on the porch. If it hadn't been for the fact that the food bag had less food and the bed wasn't totally soaked I would have thought that they sat there all weekend. I knocked on the door and she opened it, literally dropped my dog into my arms and shut the door. That's it. No "hello" , nothing.
I don't know what all of these positive reviews were about. I can't believe that they even went to the same place that I did.
Needless to say, I will never go back and I warn all of my friends against going there.

Pros: None

Cons: Rude, unaccomodating, unprofessional

.

Any business owner who requires you to call ahead of time before coming over probably has something to hide. For all the people with glowing reviews, have you ever actually seen where your dogs are kept when at Patty's house? Are you allowed to come into the house without advanced notice? These are red flags at any day care facility for children and should be viewed the same way here. If she really doesn't like dogs barking when people come to the door she probably shouldn't be running a dog boarding facility. Do your homework before leaving your pooch with this woman!

We used her service once about two years ago. I'm writing this now because my husband and I still talk about this place as our dog's nightmare. I agree with the person below about how unprofessional and rude Patty was. When we went there to pick up our dog, Patty said rudely, "Your dog was barking at night, and I couldn't sleep." We were shocked because our dog is not a barking one, and if she had really behaved that way, there is a reason. We used other dog boarding services, and she didn't behave that way at all. Obviously, this place had a reason for our dog to behave the way Patty explained. We would never use this place because we would feel we are torturing our precious dog by making her stay at such a horrible place.

Pros: clean

Cons: Patty was mean and scared to imagine how she treated our dog

Due to the reviews on Citysearch I scheduled an appt with Patty - I had wanted to use her before but she had no availability. The appointment was difficult to schedule considering that it had to be mid-day (per her strict intake and outtake rules) and I was coming from work in downtown Portand. I noted that our appointment was at noon on my work calendar and when I arrived at her house which by the way is very far out and a heavily congested drive, the house seemed deserted. You are not to ring the bell or knock because the "barking dogs" so you have to call her from your cell phone while ON HER PORCH! Needless to say the dogs start barking anyway and while I was walking back to get my cell phone a wildly disheveled woman answered the door and said "yes?" I said I have an appt at noon and she replied, "appt was at 11, I'm not ready" and slammed the door in my face. After driving an hour and ten minutes to get there, while I clearly noted our appt was at noon. The most infuriating part of this is if I WAS in fact late - which I wasn't, she had me on the phone two days ago letting me know that her house was hard to find and the person she just met with WAS AN HOUR LATE! But apparently he must've met some other criteria. IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR DOGS AT ALL DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I don't know that the proprietor is "all there". The owner and her friends must've written all of the positive reviews on this site. HOGWASH!

If we could we'd give Patty 10 stars. The best testament we can offer regarding her services relates to the time we came to pick up Sadie, our wonderful little Sheltie, after being away on a long trip. My wife rang the Patty's doorbell and when Sadie came to the door she took one look at my wife and without missing a beat went back inside!

Enough said,

Rick P.

Pros: She loves her animal guests, is careful to limit the number of pets at any one time to make sure that she can give each dog the attention he/she deserves. Wonderful facilities.

Cons: Absolutely NONE!

Inside & out this buisness is simply put, a MUST SEE! The dog yard resembles a botanicaal garden and offers a huge manicured lawn that is well fenced and dog-friendly. Dogs are welcome to come outside & in at will through a doggie door onto a deck. They can lounge outdoors in a well built gazebo away from the sun or rain. I have seen many dog hotels in my travels but this wins 5 stars as the best anywhere, ... paws down !! You can immediately sense what these people are about when entering the foyer. The dogs enjoy safe & secure play areas
to fit their individual needs, under a watchful eye. There is even a little infirmary complete with sterile supplies in the case someone gets a boo boo during their stay. This is affordable excellence w/o any hidden costs for any special needs or attention your dog may require. This is the first time I can really relax while vacationing with only one worry; what if they don't want to come home!!? This canine home away from home will not stay a best-kept secret for long, so book early and avoid the rush. Keep up the good work!!....bark, bark..!!

Pros: quiet cul-de-sac w/ convenient parking ... open 7 days a week w/ liberal ck-in/out hours

Cons: none...and I'm not easily impressed!

I spoke with the owner of this boarding place about 3 months before thanksgiving and all she talked about was herself. I tried to explain to her my little yorkie's and Pomeranian's needs both medically and mentally. We spoke for over 45 min on the phone (mostly about her). I had asked her if she new anything about seizure dogs and again she just talked and talked about her dogs. I don't think she has any animal medical knowledge or any kind of training/animal behavioral education what so ever. I called her back about 4 weeks later to confirm my boarding and she had no clue who I was and had nothing available. What a waist of my time. That's ok I found an awesome boarding place that took my dog's last minute. Their place was huge, warm, friendly and most of the staff were trainers or animal nurses. They gave me a moment to moment chart of what they did, ate, pooped and if my little baby had siezures and they even timed them and called me everytime. Very professional. If your going to charge people money for your boarding then you are a business. When you are a business you should be professional and remember a 45 min conversation you have with someone on the phone. At least write it down. Don't childcare givers have to have some sort of childcare background or education?? Should it not be the same for animal care? I now know I prefere a kennel, dog daycare or animal hospital to board my animals. They have way more training and I know that they are in professional's hands. I think animal nurses and veterinarians love animals more than these small ma and pa places, because they took the time and money to go to school.

Cons: no animal education

Patty and Don are wonderful! We moved to the Oregon coast in Jan of 2007 and immediatelly began searching for a home environment where we could leave our dog Gem while traveling. We found nothing out here on the coast, but our search finally led us to Patty's website. After our initial meeting we knew it was perfect. The dogs are free to run around the house and beautiful backyard. Patty and Don treat each dog as if they were their own. Gem needs medication each morning and is on a special dog food---Patty makes sure she receives them. On our way there we jokingly tell Gemmy she is going to see her "other" parents, and when we drop her off she is always really happy to see them. It really is her second home. Don't hesitate to give them a call--you will be able to travel with the peace fo mind that your dog is cared for and loved while you are away!

We highly recommend Patty's Precious Pets. We can leave our small dog with Patty and know he will be very well taken care of. It's like he's going on vacation, too! Patty treats all her animals like family, and the animals sense it. Our Murphy seemed very comfortable there. The environment is friendly, with a wonderful yard to play in.
