After enduring (and yes I do mean enduring) my experience at pico de gallo, I have to say you'd be hard pressed to find a more piss-poor mexican meal. The menu items, which come with next to nothing, are outlandishly overpriced, not to mention completely run of the mill and boring. Our waiter seemed more keen on sticking around our table and making asinine jokes than he was at actually providing us with decent service. The experience continued when our food arrived. The lackluster presentation was only surpassed by the utter tastelessness of every item on my plate. Wait, that's not fair. I can't say tastelessness, since everything there reminded me of what it might be like to chow down on a cardboard box. After getting through my crappy, overpriced, and under portioned meal and was liberated of most of my money, I could only think of how I wish I had gone to Taco Bell. At least they serve bad mexican food quickly and have the common decency to not talk.

I rated this a 1, but only because there's no option for 0.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Everything

I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla... noticed that it only came with cheese & chicken so I asked for them to add some peppers and onions in addition to a side of Guac.

The bill came and the waitress doubles the price of the Chicken Quesadilla. Seven Dollars on the menu she added an additional Seven Dollars for the side of guac. & veggies...

The food was gross & service VERY disappointing...

Seated a party of 10 (including myself) late in the evening very quickly and w/o reservations. the staff was very friendly, funny, and accommodating. some might call the place tiny, others may describe it as cozy. i dig the dia de los muertos decor and other mexican paraphernalia, including prints of Frida Kahlo self-portraits in the restroom (a little creepy, but still cool). good, basic mexican fare that was not disappointing.
will definitely be going back.

The gals who work there are most likely all students...yeah they aren't the greatest servers, but if you want great service go to Tequila's or El Vez and spend an arm and a leg.

My friends and I go here all the time. Many of them are vegetarian/vegan and the waitresses and cook staff try their best to accomadate. The last trip the waitress actually went back to the kitchen twice to ask if certain entrees were veg.

The chips are great. The margaritas are awesome. The decor is hysterical. The food is always excellent even if we wait arround asking for the bill or a fork.

Don't listen to all the whiny brats.....however dont go here if you are claustrophobic or on a first date!

We ordered delivery last night and the food was bland and overpriced for the amount. Don't bother with this place.

although easily drawn in by the attractive decor, pico de gallo failed on all other points. the staff was lazy, the food was very bland, and the close quarters made is so that i sat through my meal listening to the girl at the table next to me talk about shaving her vag*na. I looked back in the kitchen and it seemed like a couple of dudes just off their cigarette break doing the minimum to throw some mexican ingredients on a plate, no professionalism, no effort to make the food interesting. The quesadilla i got was something that I could have made myself at home-it was plain, lacking ingredients, and presentation. i wouldn't go here again, dont be fooled by the flare.

Pros: zingy margaritas

Cons: bland food, lazy staff

Filthy bathrooms, rude servers, and horrible food are just a few reasons to avoid this food establishment. The chicken "fajitas", as labeled on the menu, are bland and the chicken was old and tough! The fajitas are not served sizzling hot on a skillet, but on a regular dish already prepared on two flour tortillas. If you don't mind nasty servers, dirty bathrooms, and old, bland food, tough chicken, eat at Pico de Gallo at your own risk. Gross!!

I wouldn't say this place is fantastic (the wait staff seems pushed to their limits), but it is pretty good. It's a good place to go when you just want to go out and grab something to eat. It's small, so you'll likely have to wait a little bit for a table (I do feel bad kind of hovering like a vulture over people as they finish eating - no place else to go, though). The margaritas tend to have some kick to them - they'll tell you, and you should listen. Meals aren't overwhelmingly large, either - which I think tends to usually be the trend with Mexican. I like it - a good casual "I want to go out tonight" place to eat.

My boyfriend and I almost didn't eat here after reading all the horrible reviews on citysearch, but we took a chance, and I am so glad we did. The service was prompt and the food was awesome. The restaurant is no longer a BYO, but the margaritas were great (not from a mix) and (I thought) fairly priced. We went on a Thursday, so I can't comment on what the service would be like over the weekend. The restaurant is small, 8-10 indoor tables and a few outside, and with only 2 waitresses I imagine the service might get a little hectic if all the tables were filled. But our experience was great and I definitely want to go back. If you go, try the classic lime margaritas and the enchiladas verdes. They were so good.

This place is awful! The food is mediocre and the service is most definitely the worst I've ever had. Since I live nearby, I hoped this restaurant would be a convenient place to grab a casual meal. My first time was ok, but my girlfriend and I were the only customers in the restaurant. On our second visit, we waited 30 minutes to be seated, 10 minutes to have our orders taken, and another hour to get food (they couldn't even keep our drinks filled for us while we were waiting). I swore to myself that I would never go back, but I recently attempted to put in a to-go order over the phone. After answering the phone, the woman set down the phone and left me waiting for 15 minutes until I hung up in desperation. This place is terrible, and I would avoid wasting your time for an "ok" burrito.

Pros: OK food

Cons: Horrible Service

My boyfriend and I love to eat out and Pico is close to our apartment. Our first experience was "ok" in terms of service, but the food and convenience of location kept us going back. Sadly, the second time was horrifying. We went with a group of friends from out of town and the waiter totally acted like we were inconveniencing him! He was RUDE, rolling his eyes at the request for chips and he spilled sauce on my head and did not apologize. The menu states that the restaurant closes after 11 on weekends but by 9pm we were told there was no more guacamole due to the fact they were closing soon. Well.. silly us decided to go one more time and we waited 15 minutes for a menu, only getting them after i had to go in and ask. Then it took another 10 minutes to get our check, again by request. This place is BAD and I do not recommend it to anyone, especially those who know what good service is. Ther service destroys the experience.

BTW: It's no longer BYOB!!!

Pros: Salsa is spicy

Cons: margarita prices ( pitchers) are a total ripoff

.

I love the food and hate the service. I'm from the West Coast, and am used to the world's best Mexican food. Pico delivers in terms of food. The handmade tortillas are fabulous. The salsa and guacamole -- usually the triggers of terrible Mexican food in Philadelphia -- are fresh and wonderful. I honestly didn't think I'd find a place like this in Philadelphia and I'm so glad that I did! On the downside, however, the service is really sub-par. The wait staff are arrogant and completely oblivious to your needs. As someone who has waited tables before -- and is usually totally sympathetic to servers -- there is no excuse for the horrendous service in this place. It is really small and should be super easy to keep the orders coming and the drinks filled. That is not the case -- even in the middle of the day. I often call my orders in and pick them up to go, so I don't have to deal with the servers. The food is sometimes worth enduring the obnoxious staff.

Pros: Real Mexican Food in Philadelphia

Cons: Perhaps the World's Worst Service

.

As everyone else has said in these reviews, the service was HORRIBLE! It took them over an hour to bring us out our food which was just a notch above what taco bell could've done in 3 minutes. They charged $5.00 to open a bottle of wine for us, and the watermelon margaritas were terrible. The waitress was completely unsympathetic and did nothing to make up for the slow kitchen. Its so small inside that you end up feeling claustrophobic. The place is over decorated. My burrito didnt even come with anything else on the plate except for a few peices of lettuce and a miniscule amount of diced tomatoes. They never refilled our chips and salsa. With all Philly has to offer in terms of restaurants, I wouldn?t recommend wasting your time here.

Stay away from the quesadilla's they come bare and look like they were microwaved. the entrees were ok i had the enchilades...the salsa verde was awesome and the guac was good... my boyfriend got a fish dish that he loved. overall it was ok but the service was really slow . bring booze and cash cause you ll be waiting and they dont take credit cards.

We waited only 10 minutes on a friday night at 7:30. The clientele was all 20something, South St. browsers. groups of friends and a couple or 2. Very tight space, dimly lit and cozy. the inconspicuous (from the street) nieghborhoood spot is a comforting joint inside. The chips and salsa arrived quick. chips: colored orange, very lightly salted, very lightly fried?, almost tasted baked. above average. Salsa: very good, good blend of peppers and tomato, limeyness, cilantro, salt. thin and watery. So things started off good. BYOT is a fun idea, but the marg it produced was very bland. + I thought there would be more to the concept (some designer mixology? rookie mistake) beyond a pitcher placed on the table. but then again it was also kind of endearing, in an alcoholic kind of way. Portobello mushroom fajita salad was enjoyed. The squash, pork and black bean burrito was as well. Some creative twists to traditional mex/texmex dishes. Service was very very slow at first then sped up, never exactly friendly, by no means rude. Warning: cash only.

Pros: good value (esp. BYOT), good veg selections, chips & salsa

Cons: cash only, service could have sealed the deal to make this place special, but didn't

.

Ok, i'm not hard to please and I usually don't write reviews, but this time I had to. The service was the worst I've experienced. We waited 15 minutes in 45~50 degree weather for a table. That would have been fine except right when a table came up a couple walked and and were seated immediately ahead of us. We ended up going and sitting down at a table that wasn't even cleaned. The hostess did apologize after I asked her about it. That should be the end of it right? Maybe NOT!

We never got a glass of water although we asked for it during the meal, we ended up drinking the wine that we brought which also was uncorked halfway throuhg the meal just to have something to drink! Never go here! The food was ok and the service sucked!

Ok, so I'll admit to being spoiled. I'm from California. You can't get a bad burrito there (unless you got to Taco Bell, but why would you?!) Anyway, I have tried and tried, and searched and searched for a decent burrito in this city. Pico de Gallo is THE BEST. The salsa is fantastic, the chips are great, the burritos are big and delicious. You can't beat this. You just can't.

This is a great place to go with a group of friends. The food is tasty and the margaritas are great (BYOTequila). Most of their desserts are bad (the flan is too eggy, the sopapillos are too crispy). However, the fried ice cream is good -- just make sure you check what flavor they have. The service isn't all that, but it doesn't need to be, as long as you are having a good time with your friends. Also, the ambience rocks my world -- colorful, bright, and comfortable.

Had a cranky waitress with an attitude problem. I even heard her complaining about another diners small (but justified) tip to another waitress right in the dining area.

Although the food was of decent quality, the portions were small and overpriced. Beans and low-grade meats shouldn't cost much. This place will nickel-dime you as well with BYOB fees. If I recall, even simple things like cheese cost extra.

The place is small. Sure, it may be quaint, but the kitchen was too close to the dining are so my clothes smelled like refried beans after dinner. The closeness of the tables and the fact that you can listen in on nearly any conversation in the place really ruins the quaintness as well.

Pico de Gallo is for yuppies that prefer decor to value and service.

The food at this place is great. You can tell that things are freshly prepared the chips, tthe tortillas, etc. They use a lot of organic and locally grown ingredients so maybe the price is a tad more than other hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints, but it is so much better and not a greasy bellyache afterwards.

I thought this was a great little BYOB. We ordered the house-made tortilla chips and salsa ($2) and each ordered an entree, for under $20 total. We had a great time, the food was good, and the place is so cute. I recommend giving it a try.

For what we spent, this wasn't worth it. We ordered nachos, and they gave us 4. yes, 4 chips with a dab of sour cream and a sliced pepper on each. I did NOT just pay $6 for that.

I ordered the pork and plaintain burrito, and the pork was pretty dry (which I didn't like... though I guess it could be intentional).

I'd stick to el cheapo mexican joints. too trendy for its own good.

This is the second venture for the owner in Philadelphia (first is El Rey Sol.) I found the food to be hit or miss and the prices higher than the other location. It too is a BYOT. I think it's a good neighborhood spot but not worth the trip when there are an increasing number of authentic mexican joints.
