So disappointed! I have been to beauty schools before and have actually gotten pretty decent haircuts so I thought why not try out Regency Beauty Institute in Mesquite? The waiting area and salon all seem to be fine. After sitting at the station, the student and I consulted on what I wanted. My hair was longer than my shoulders, about to my mid-to-upper back. I explained that I knew I needed to clean up the ends of my hair (like a couple inches) but I wanted to keep as much length as possible. I told her I wanted long layers, which in my opinion is a pretty basic cut that is pretty common. The instructor came over and went over our consultation. The instructor asked where I wanted my shortest layer. I said a little longer than chin length. I was pleased to see that the instructor noticed that my hair has a natural wave and she told the student to cut the shortest layer shoulder length because when it dried, it would be about where I wanted it. The student did a good job shampooing my hair and then she began to cut my hair. I watched in the mirror, but I wasn't analyzing every cut. The atmosphere was ok. There were a few moments where I felt it was a little unprofessional, such as students chatting with each other instead of focusing on their clients and yawning and such. After the cut, she asked if I would like it blow-dried and flat-ironed. I said yes. After she flat-ironed it, I noticed that I had a very chunky chin-length layer all around my head (that wasn't even cut evenly and then about a 4 inch drop to the end of my hair (somewhat resembling carol brady from the brady bunch). I didn't really know what to think. She grabbed my paper to take it to her instructor and while she was gone, I was thinking in my head what to say to the instructor when she came to check it. I had decided that my biggest issue with it was that it needed to be blended more as there was such a chunky layer and a drastic drop. To my horror, the student brought back that slip of paper and informed me I was good to go. I was shocked as I realized that the instructor was NOT going to come and see how the cut even went. In disbelief, I walked to the reception desk wondering when someone would mention my haircut. Not one person asked me about my haircut or batted an eye at the uneven layer. I could see the student that had cut my hair and she proceeded to lay her chest and head on the desk and the instructor began rubbing her back. As I was leaving, the student had laid down on the floor by the restroom and another student was popping her back. I was going back and forth on what I should say and I was in shock and disbelief. At that point, I decided you get what you pay for ($9) and it was my poor judgement that had gotten me to a school and I would not make that mistake again. I was able to get an appointment at a salon to fix my mess of a haircut. She ended up having to cut off quite a bit of hair. My longest layer is now shoulder length and my hair is not at all what I had originally wanted, but I really didn't have a choice. She had to cut quite a bit to blend especially because that chin-length layer was so chunky. I will have to let it grow out a couple of years at least to get it back to where I can even think of doing the haircut that I wanted. She was nice and only charged me $25 (her usual is $40) When I looked into Regency Beauty Institute, I really didn't see any negative reviews other than the haircut took longer because they were students. If I would have seen a review that had said the instructors don't even check the final haircut or ask you if you like it, I would have NEVER come here. So, please do yourself a favor!!! Do not come here! It's not worth it!

I met one of the Regency Beauty Institute participants at a local fund raiser. She handed out Regency brochures and I decided to take her up on the great offer. I made the appointment last week and was treated to a delightful experience. I had my hair colored with 4 different colors. I gave her license to be creative and she did a masterful job. The trim and style that finished my coiffure were simply delightful. I will definitely go back. I definitely recommend them to my friends.

Regency is the best Beauty school around. I went to another school before Regency and was miserable. I found them through a YellowPages app on my phone and it was the best discovery i could imagine. I called and they were very nice and up beat. The next day i went and talked to them and was convinced i WAS goin to go there. I have moved alot in my life and always dread the first day in a place that i have no clue who anyone is. The first day i went in, i felt like i had been there for a while. They are so welcoming: no matter your age, race, gender, size or anything like that. The people at Regency make it worth getting up in the morning. And yes its females and a lot of recent high school grads so of course, ''females can be females.'' Theres also men too we cant forget about them, they matter too. But trust me, Regency is the BEST, i wouldnt have chose any other school in the world other than Regency. They teach all different ways so if u learn visually, physically, or just on your own, its ALL used. Theyre academics are set at a standard that makes you keep doing your best. With the positive environment and attitudes its very easy to do your best and keep trying no matter what. The first week i went in we were doing hair cuts!!!! it was fun and a challenge at some points. But no worries because the educators help you every step you go. I loved all my educators and wouldnt have traded them or Regency for anything else. So if u have any doubts jus forget about them. Its well worth it :D
