I love to try new places and dine out several times a week, so I do not have unrealistic expectations for a strip mall seafood joint off Hwy 290. But the place is nasty, the food is nasty (if they have to cook it do not order it, raw oysters were good) and the service is worse. We sat at the one clean table in the place and proceeded to try out a variety of menu items (boiled shrimp, boiled crawfish - yes they offer them in Dec., although they are very small and not cooked well, gumbo - tasted like very spicy flavored water on rice & chicken wings) and beer. The only reason we went was because we had a restaurant com coupon, but management tried to tell us we could not use it. They said that since we ordered beer, the promotion was invalid and the computer would not let them process it. So I asked them to split the check, which they refused to do. After a lengthy debate with the manager she finally agreed. So they brought back the food bill, with my discount and they forgot to remove one beer, but the discount still worked! So I gladly paid for the extra beer and left. Bad food, plus a manager who will try to screw you on the bill does not add up to a place I will ever go again.

Pros: Cheap, descent oysters

Cons: Service, decor, cooked food

Bayou Mamas is a new establishment located just off the Northwest Freeway. The crawfish, when in season, are fantastic. The waitstaff are personable and the few times I've been there have been fun.

Went for lunch and order the shrimp and fish combo platter. Combo platter was $9.99 and if you want fried rice you add $2.00.

It took thirty minutes to get my order. The platter came with two large shrimp and two pieces of fish fried, both had no flavor! The fried rice was horrible. There was a grey mystery meat in it (chicken I assume) that was way overcooked and dry. The rice had a dishwater flavor that was not appetizing.

Worst meal ever, especially for the price!!!

If you want high quality seafood go to Pappaduxe across the street. If you want inexpensive seafood go to Mambo for 1/2 the price. This place was horrible!

I was in the mood for some delicious seafood so i decided to go to this new place named bayou mama's seafood. But what i was never expecting ws the food to be horrible as well as the service. I had order the shrimp platter they took half an hour for my shrimp to come out and when it did it was looking gross and tasted horrible as well. It seemed to me like it had been cooked for hours. My waitress didnt even bother to come back after she had brought my food out to me. I surely will not ever go ack there again also wont recomend it to no one.

I use to go to a seafood restaurant called Crazy Cajun and thought everything they served was fresh and delicious not know i was really really bad in noticing fresh seafood. A new restaurant across the freeway called Bayou Mama's opened up and thats when i really knew. Bayou Mama's had a fresh taste and great prices. No fishy odors and the restrooms are not smelling like sewer lines clogged up and a terrible service. you can't get there employees to work, no customer service. I would fire them all. Bayou Mama's food was excellent and service was great. friendly atmosphere and friendly people. Big Daddy gives two thumbs up to Bayou Mama's.

I TOOK MY FAMILY TO BAYOU MAMAS FOR VALENTINES DAY DINNER AND MY FAMILY LOVES THE RESTAURANT!!! WE HAD THE OYSTERS WHICH WERE FRESH AND DELICIOUS AND THE CRAWFISH WHICH WAS ONE OF A KIND. WE HAVE TRIED MANY SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS IN TOWN AND THIS IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE. THE FOOD IS GOOD, THE SERVICE IS FRIENDLY, AND THE PRICE IS VERY RESONALBLE. MY KIDS HAD THE CHICKEN STRIPS AND COMPARED THEM TO CHICK-FIL-A!!! I WILL DEFINITELY RETURN AND BE A REGULAR CUSTOMER!!!

My family and I decided to try this place on Valentine's night. I left feeling sorry for the new restaurant. We kept ordering new items just hoping something would turn out good! Whoever wrote the first two reviews .... not sure ... .maybe I just went on an "off" night.

1. The sign on the outside is terrible. It's way to small. You can't even tell it's a restaurant until you get to the front door.
2. The shrimp cocktail was old. The shrimp looked curdled. Not fresh. Like it was pre-made and sitting in the cooler.
3. The crawfish were terrible. I am from Louisiana and I can tell when crawfish has been pre-cooked, chilled and re-heated. You need to cook crawfish alive and then serve. Many of the crawfish were broken. The sauce was ok ... just different. I ate only two and prayed I wouldn't get sick.
4. The fried catfish was way undercooked.

Overall, the restuarant needs to up its game to compete with the multitude of popular restaurants on 290.

I took my family here during the Grand Opening and I have been back three times since than. I love the crawfish and gumbo, the little ones love the fried shrimp! The restaurant is very clean, friendly service, and prices are cheap. I have not been to Happy Hour over at Bayou Mama's but the huge bar looks so inviting.

Used to be a fan of Seafood Shoppe and Cajun Kitchen, but the sauce here has the perfect mix of spice and garlic, hands down the best crawfish in Houston. The gumbo is also out of this world. Oysters were fresh and tasty as well. Will definitely be back to try the fried seafood platters, neighboring table had ordered these and serving size was huge!

Cons: None that I can think of..
