We had a wonderful experience adopting our new cat, "Slink". I hope the negative comments don't dissuade anyone from visiting ADL.

This place absolutely sucks. Not the animals, the people. My fiance and I went to adopt a kitten, and had so many choices to choose from. We spent nearly an hour in the three houses that they had dedicated to kittens alone. In fact, they

Disappointing Experience, We called about a dog we found online in the morning and explained we had to drive three hours. When we got there she and her brother had been adopted out 1 hour prior to us getting there. Then we found a second

I found a dog dumped in my neighborhood and these wonderful people found her a forever home in just 6 days. I will be forever grateful! And knowing that they screen potential owners carefully makes me confident that this sweet dog will

I think it is a shame that this animal shelter has a very poor rating. The dogs and cats there are wonderful and loving ... and whatever dog you end up with will be your best friend for life. I would be heartbroken if I thought that the

The same thing happened to me......the ADL informed us that the dog was no longer available. However, I saw the dog the next day! Maybe it was their way of stating that I was not worthy????
It is very upsetting to see all of these beautiful animals locked up as criminals when there are so many loving families that want them.........yet their way of doing business is shady.
I witnessed animals living in their own feces and without water. I notified the front desk but it took them a long time to care of these matters. The facility was not busy at all.
Did I fail to mention that one of us was bitten (and caused bleeding) by one of the shelter dogs and that nobody seemed to care.

Pros: the dogs and cats

Cons: living conditions, staff

Then this morning at 9:50 while we were at Wal-mart purchasing a collar and leash I received a phone call from the ADL, the woman on the phone said that she was really sorry but that Godiva was going to be taken into a Lab Rescue Center and that I shouldn't have been given a slip for her to begin with.
I was heartbroken and speechless, I told her I would call her back and then we decided not to waste any time and leave the shopping cart full of things in the middle of the isle and went to the ADL and asked about Godiva. The man that was in the office said she was on hold for me, I then told him about the call I had received, he said he had no clue what was going on and that he would find out, he asked another lady that was there and she said Godiva had been taken to the rescue center the night before, he apologized for what was going on and asked me to go take a look at the other dogs. My bf and I went outside and I actually bumped into another staff member whom I had spoken to the day before, I told her what they had told me and she told me that Godiva hadn't gone anywhere and that she was right there in her kennel. We went over to where she was and she walked up and rubbed up against the fence so we could pet her and even put her paw up! Finally we were approached by a kennel manager, he said that other arrangements had already been made for Godiva and that he was very sorry for what happened so he offered us so called VIP service, because he did not want us to leave with a bad taste of ADL! This was a very sad day for my bf and I, yet the saddest part of it all is that Godiva is sleeping in that cold kennel tonight when she could have been receiving royal treatment from a new loving family. If you start an adoption process for a dog, they put a hold on the pet until it is complete, I am confused if a diff family was going to adopt her then why wasn't there a hold on her before I got there on Friday?

Pros: They do not euthanize animals

Cons: They said I could adopt any dog there but the one I wanted, and no one seemed to know what was going on...

Have you ever visited, worked for or volunteered for a local animal shelter?
If you have any knowledge about any shelter in San Antonio that has problems, please email kabb fox news
What type of problems? Could be anything - overcrowding, animal fights, lack of food or care, incompetant or abusive staff, cleanliness problems, unnecessary deaths, animals that got sick after adoption, etc..
In additon to the email (a reporter who cares), tell everyone you know - the local newspaper, local TV stations. Its very important to let the board of directors know. You can sometimes find these people on the shelter's website. You might also be able to find them through the Texas Secretary of State or through Charity Watch sites like Guidestar.
Additionally, put pressure on the Shelter's major contributors. You can sometimes find these companies on the shelter's websites or their newsletters.
Please do what you can to help the animals
