I have been coming here for years. It is a great place to come with friends or to meet new ones. Also, a great place to be seen at. Food is fresh, service is friendly. What they do works and it shows. This place has been a popular spot

I have been a regular at the Downtown Oyster Bar for several years now. My husband and I went in before a Jazz game for dinner a few weeks ago and we sat at the bar as we usually do. The bartender was fantastic and our dinner was amazing

One time I went there and they ran out of pasta and had to cook more. Thankfully the manager let us off the meal for free. Don't eat there, I'm sorry, It is not worth paying the price for the seafood there. First we live in Utah and even if the seafood can get here quickly, it is not worth freakin $40 a plate. Plus the Oysters are not that good for the price they ask ( pretty petite oysters "where is it"). There tends to be partygoers there at the bar, then the others that eat at the tables. It is just as easy to cook a nice juicy stake at home for $25, than pay an outrageous $45 or $50, whatever the price is for that matter.
*I was at the counter one night and I saw a waiter and he had a hand-cloth tucked in the back of his pants and it looked like he might have had a small blood stain ( don't take my total word for it )
*Way over-rated, especially the one in Cottonwood area in SLC, Utah.
* Valet Parking, PLEASE!!!
Don't waste your money on this business, go eat somewhere else.

The Market Street Oyster Bar has the best service in town. If you looking for a restaurant where you can relax, have a few drinks and get your food fast and fresh this is the place to go. I swear there's no such thing as a bad day to the servers here. They always greet you with a smile and continue to make the entire experience here delightful, especially Aaron, who serves during the day. I recomend anyone to go here any time of day. The food may not be the best, but the service and drinks make up for the food.

Coming from the Atlantic Coast where good seafood is plentiful and great, I would rate this as a sad place for seafood. Everything is overpriced for the quality of ingredients and cooking that you are getting in return. I was very surprised that this place has received high reviews and was as crowded as it was the night we visited. The seafood was skimpy and not expertly cooked, the prices are too high, and the service too slow- although not inattentive. Expect to stay a good 3 hours for a full course dinner. The only good thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere and selection of beers and wines. I'm glad we only paid for a temporary membership because we won't be returning.

First off i am a gastronomy member and frequent the oyster bar at least once or twice a month with friends or my wife. Usually we stick with King Crab, Chowder, Oysters and Champagne. That is all good, bill can get high with the booze bill- to be expeccted. What sucks about this place IMO is if you venture off of that path and go for their fish or standard appetizers you end up with food that is better suited for a mass market place like Red Lobster. $23-$26 a pop, small portions masked by steamed veggies and boring rice. Bottom line they need to innovate and revamp the menu (same for the last 5 years) and maybe get a new chef otherwise you are getting screwed.

Market Street is a nice place for a seafood lunch and cocktail but social club? Hardly. Lots of business types discussing business.

Its Baci's with a different menu. WEAK

.49 Oyster Mondays are the bomb! The "Hawks Point" are wonderfully tasty and so large you cannot eat one whole. The fresh cocktail sauce, horseradish, and vinegar are the perfect compliments. The oysters, the sourdough, the thick, rich, hearty, hot, homemade chowder is better than anywhere else, I guarantee it!
Dont miss the Sunday brunch either. fresh hot orange rolls, eggs bene' and bloody mary's!!!

We have enjoyed the Oyster Bar for over 20 years and it has always been top drawer. We only wish that we could spend our Sat. afternoons there as we once did. That was always a special time for us in our busy lives and we miss it.

The food was delicious. I was pleased to get a real "drink", I really did'nt feel as if I were in Salt Lake. The vibe is great, it really makes you feel as if youre somewhere along the coast near San Fran!

The Oyster Bar used to be my favorite restaurant in Salt Lake City. Several years ago I used to eat there at least once a week. Sadly it is now a very poor restaurant. I'm not sure what happened but the quality of food dropped dramatically. The last few times I've had dinner there was the worst food I have eaten, and it isn't cheap. The food is less than mediocre. I have tried it several times thinking anyone can have an off night, but it has been consistently bad, and I won't be returning. I even contacted the manager who apologized and graciously sent me a renewal on my membership. I did try it once more but nothing had changed. The fish has been dry, the pasta cold, I could go on and on. Sad but true my favorite place has been scratched from my list completely.

Having grown up by the sea and having worked in the food and wine industry for many years I may be a tad picky. But, just like the proverbial emperor, Gastronomy is wearing no clothes. Their knowledge of seafood is limited at best. I have found nematodes in their much bragged about Halibut (they are easy to remove if you just know where to look). They don't seem to be interested in rinsing their scallops (leaving a good dose of bitter tasting preservatives for the consumer to digest).

Some of my friends claim that the Oyster Bar is too snooty and expensive. It is expensive by Salt Lake standards, and some of the clientele may perpetuate the snooty part, and but forget about them. The oysters are great, the ambience is nice and the martinis are well-mixed. Don't let the affected postures of a few keep you away from this great bar.

The Scene
High ceilings, large mirrors, polished wood and brightly painted murals provide a sophisticated look. Sit at the bar or in one of the elevated tables. A full liquor license and savvy bartenders make this a favorite…
