I really realy love The Bakery. Every time I eat there, I walk out completely satisfied. And my 'usual order' always tastes the same as the time I had it before. I love the consitency this restaurant maintains. However, I do agree with some of the other reviews that the service could use some work. The employees never have really done anything to make me feel welcome. The food is great, but I'd be much happier if the service could further compliment the food. Overall, delicious.

i am a frequent customer. they overcharge me every second time, pkease look at your receipt when leaving. they are slow. I like to drink tea and asking for a large pot because it will take forever to get a second cup. also there are a lot of people working there, but they move slow and a little rude, the attitude like whatever.... Alina works there, she is a nice girl, gives me excellent service, Elizabeth - dont talk to her, rude and takes stuff personally

Pros: good baked goods

Cons: horrible service

I am a NYC city girl who fell in love with Salt Lake City and I had made a crusade to look for really good European style bakeries in Salt Lake. And so far this is the best! I do not know what SLM was thinking when it awarded Les Madeleine's with 2010 best? I make it an effort to try as many bakeries in SLC. When I tried the SLM winner for 2010, which I purchased $100 worth of assorted pastries to share with my Class the items where horrible! Not sure it was a bad day, BUT I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO GOURMANDISE!! They are doing a really good job with their pastries, but the service can be shotty sometimes!! So a recommendation on improvement of service should be noted!

if you can't find them under the name The Bakery, try Gourmandies, they kind of have both names...anyway, they run a nice, clean place and have excellent baked goods. highly recommend trying them if you haven't already.

I love this place!!! The desserts are so amazing! Lunch is very good, also. There is wonderful variety here. However, the last couple times, it has taken a while for the waitress to take our order, and sometimes it has been hard to get the right thing. Otherwise, just go!

My neighbor told me about this place a few years ago and my mom and I go for lunch all the time! It's the only restaurant we can enjoy with the bill being only $12! Delicious french onion soup is to die for, and all the baked goods are fantastic. The fruit tartlettes are better than the large one, all of the cookies are fantastic, the other small treats are good too! GREAT deal, GREAT food!

I have been going here for 10+ years and have never been disappointed. The best items are the Carrot Cake, Porcupine Chocolate Mousse, Anglais Sandwich on a croissant w/ fruit, French Onion Soup, and the Cocoa Cookies. Basically everything there is delicious. The only thing I've ever had there that I don't like is the ""Gourmet Grilled Cheese"". It is a good place to take friends for a quick lunch or coffee. The inside has been revamped so it has a very nice cafe feel to it.

During the summer, the patio is a wonderful place to wind down with iced tea and a pastry. They have a really great selection and if you love dessert, this is you're kind of a place!

Pros: It's dessert, what more do you want? The patio's also nice.

The fruit tarts are worth a stop. I had a ham and cheese sandwich that was just ok. If you are looking for a sandwich there are plenty of better options but if you are looking for amazing pasties make sure you check this place out. The cream puffs and little strawberry pies are excellent too.

I was also surprised of the disappointment in The Bakery. I was introduced to the bakery when my sister was pregnant and craving their cake. Me and my husband went there to pick her up a treat. While we were there we thought we would spoil our dinner with a piece of cake and LOVED it! So much we ended up buying a whole cake to share to have everyone taste how good this is. It is a little more then the grocery store cakes but well worth the splurge! It has a high quality taste not a waxy frosting taste like grocery stores. I later tried the Soups and is now one of my favorite places for lunch. Well priced soups.

PROS: great food
CONS: parking is hard

I have looked all over Salt Lake City for a bakery that sells fine French Pasteries. Nobody even comes close! I stop in some mornings and buy some fresh bread and coffee and it instantly takes me back to my study abroad in Paris. The bakers are very proud of their work. I once requested a Tres Leches cake--which they do not normally bake there--for a birthday party, and they were more than happy to make it. It was wonderful and well worth the price I paid. My family is still raving about how delicious it was. A little warning: if you are not used to European ""customer service,"" some of the staff may seem a little snooty.

I am so surprised to see that someone else was so disappointed with this location. I absolutely love all of their cakes and have found them much better than a local grocery store. The chocolate mouse cake is my favorite. I am not a big fan of their cookies but everything else I have tasted is delicious. They also have soup in a bread bowl that is inexpensive and very good. The soups are offered daily and the cost is right around $4 which isn't bad for lunch.

PROS: Great Cake

When I first moved to Salt Lake many years ago the first thing I noted was a distinct lack of quality bakeries. There was no place to get a really good cake or a tasty little danish. Coming from the Bay Area's peninsula region I was awash in quality bakeries-- Woodside Bakery, Draeger's, Le Boulanger and Prolific Oven to name just a few. But SLC was miss and miss... Then someone suggested The Bakery. Told me everything about it. Best cakes... best goodies. Best bread. I immediately drove downtown to give it a whirl. I was excited! Unfortunately, The Bakery didn't live up to the expectations. Many of the cakes available taste like the ones you can find at a Dan's or Super Target. Too processed... premade tasting. Cheap. There's nothing special about their products. Nothing that shouts, "wow!". This is what a bakery should give you, seeing as how it's a guilty pleasure and all. Sadly, after giving The Bakery more chances than I should have, I've moved on. Thankfully, some new bakeries have moved in, obviously recognizing what I did--that this town was seriously lacking in a quality bakery.

PROS:
CONS: Low quality baked goods, no "Wow!" factor

This place is so amazing! beautiful patio, delicious handmade pastries. If you like baklava they have it, but the Galaktaburiko is a must-try. The fruit tarts, cakes, rum balls, Kahlua Cheesecake...anything is delicious! Cheese-topped rolls for 55 cents are a bargain. But the Chocolate Decadence cake will change you forever.\nOnly open till 10 weekdays, 11 weekends now.

I have been going to the Bakery forever! The sandwiches are huge and fresh, the pastries are so tasty and the soup is so filling. \nDuring the summer, the patio is nice with the wind and a City Weekly. During lunch the place is packed. With their late hours, a good place to study with coffee and sugar pastries to keep you going. \nThey like to keep it really cold in there, so take a sweater, and they make their cheese cakes with ricotta. I think ricotta is gross, so if you like ricotta, get the cheesecake. Everything else is tasty!
