Because of a misunderstanding through text messages with a friend who I was co-hosting a NY eve party with, I bought a duplicate set of NY Eve party paraphernalia from Party Depot. Not seeing the sign that is posted way above the cashier's head (and honestly not really paying attention to it), I purchased the said paraphernalia. I only looked at my receipt, which said that costume and electronics sales were final. So, when I found out that my friend actually had already bought the NY eve party material, I thought...it's okay, I can just return my unopened packages. The only thing I said I would go ahead and use because it would not be "re-usable" by Party Depot was the sign saying "2011". So, I went to the store last week, receipt in hand, to return the two items, which totalled about $40. As soon as I walked in, the manager who was helping another customer check out said to me, "Nope, you can't return those items." So, I looked at him and said, "Yes, I can. I have my receipt and they are unopened." Then he said, "I am helping another customer, please wait and I will be with you shortly." So, I waited for him thinking, "what the heck?". Then (while still checking the other customer out, he told me, "look at our return policy" and pointed to the sign above his head. I replied and said, "Please look at my receipt. It only says that I can't return costume and electronics." He continued to engage me in confrontational back-and-forth, and then reminded me that he was helping another customer. So, I waited for him to be done. He then called another cashier to the register and then walked over to me and said that to look at bullet point #4 on the sign above the cashier. It said that seasonal items cannot be returned after 3 days. When he approached me, all I could notice was the ear wax he had in his ear. It was at that point that I backed away from him because I did not want him to touch me (or purchased items that I can't return). I plan on writing the regional manager of Party Depot to see if they even care about a customer's complaint. Maybe they will...maybe they won't.
