I had just moved to the Sterling area, and wanted to find a new service place nearby. Whenever I shop for a new mechanic, I act as though I don't know a thing about cars, to see if they will treat me honestly. Firestone in Sterling failed the test. I asked them to change the oil, rotate the tires, and do a safety inspection. They failed the car for inspection, claiming that the tread was low on one tire "but still barely passing" and that a front brake pad was worn out, thus failing the inspection. They were willing to pass the car if I paid them $950 for a complete brake job. I didn't tell them that I had just had the brakes overhauled, including new front rotors and pads, only 10,000 miles before. I took the car for a second opinion at a different inspection station, telling them to specifically look for worn brake parts. They passed the car with flying colors, suggesting that I go and get my money back from Firestone. I'm not getting my money back. Instead, I'm writing to you about what they did to me...and I will try to post this review in several different forums.
