Ballard used to be a one Pho town until Big Bowl came along! And yes, it's true - no one can enter the restaurant without commenting on the enormity of the BIG BOWL. Frankly it belongs in its own episode of Man vs. Food...! It is a veritable vat of pho (but back to our regularly scheduled programming!).The walls are painted in soothing complementary colors, and the inside of the restaurant is spotless. Our servers were courteous and exceedingly prompt. A nice bonus is that with each bowl of pho, you will receive a complementary can of soda (if you are looking to pinch pennies). The fresh rolls came with a decidedly sweet sauce that tasted of peanut butter and caramel, but were definitely fresh as the name implied. The pho itself, while unremarkable, is definitely a worthy opponent of the incumbent Than Bros. with a broth that is free of that nasty MSG devil. Despite the lack of cream puff, Big Bowl is a nice (cheap!) addition to the pho scene.

Pros: Tasty pho that is not Than Bros

Cons: Parking

Nothing is more comforting for a cold (weather or the bug) than the steam wafting up from the broth in a good bowl of Pho. If you've ever had fantasies of diving in - well, here, you can! The ginormous BIG bowl (see picture) will have you doing laps of back strokes through your meal. The broth was delicious although a little sweeter than most. It, of course, came with beans spouts, basil leaves and hunk of lime to be added to your liking. Some people add hoisin sauce and hot sauce directly into the bowl and others choose to use it as a dipping sauce. A small bowl is filling at $5.
