I hate writing bad reviews because they can really impact a business badly, but in this case I feel I have to. I contacted Damico to bid on seal coating over 20 (possibly as many as 40) driveways in our subdivision. They submitted proposal that won them the bid. In their proposal they made statements that they did not live up to and they are not willing to remedy the situation.

The first issue was that the proposal stated that they would "Apply one heavy coat of commercial coal tar sealer with heavy mix of slip resistant aggregate."

When questioned about this afterwards since no one could see anything resembling a "heavy mix of slip resistant aggregate", their response was they use a "fine sand" and if you run your hand over the driveway you would be able to feel it. Sorry, but that is and was the texture of he driveway, not a new " heavy mix of slip resistant aggregate".

The second issue was that they stated "Because most driveways have many cracks we recommend no crack fill but a heavy sand mix with about 1 lb. of sand per gallon is recommended. This will fill in most large cracks. We use a heavy mix for a more even look."

Not only did they not fill in "most large cracks", even small ones were not filled in. None of the cracks have an "even look" in fact they are all more obvious now than they were before. The only thing they did was to spread the sealer across the driveway and cracks and let it seep down into the crack. Once it did that, there was no attempt to make it appear "even".

The same sealer was used on all surfaces. Not a "heavy mix of slip resistant aggregate" on he surface and a "heavy sand mix with about 1 lb. of sand per gallon" in the cracks.

While the driveways look nice now that they have been sealed, I wish I could post pictures to show how bad they made the cracks in the driveway appear. Previously we knew they were there. Now it is so obvious that some residents are calling another company to redo the work while still others have stopped payment on their checks and still others are contacting the BBB.

Would I recommend Damico in the future, I think you know what my answer would be.

Damico Paving is very proud of the quality of our work, and making our customers happy. Many companies will tell new customers that, but Damico Paving lets our customers speak for us! Below are some of the compliments we received just from 2010 & 2011\n\nTo see many more, go to WWW .DAMICOPAVING. COM\n \nI am in the construction business and I was very impressed. It was a well orchestrated process and I watched the whole process and took plenty of pictures. Three inches of asphalt is what the company promised and it is what I got. Excellent work. They have the whole process down to a science!..........D. Hartel, Batavia, IL\n\nAdded new asphalt driveway for new garage in backyard to front of house. This was a brand new install, no existing driveway. They dug, gravelled, asphalted, etc. Fantastic!!! Fast, courteous, professional from bid to final completion of work. (We got 3 other bids and there is no comparison on who to use or why). We love the look, quality etc. of the driveway. We are completely impressed. We have asked them to give us another bid to redo our original driveway in front of house. They can't bid until late March/early April due to asphalt pricing, but we can't wait to have them do our front driveway. When I see their signs on people's driveway, I think.....lucky family, they are getting the best work done around.........S. Alderson, Batavia, IL\n\nTore out and resurfaced 1000 ft asphalt driveway that butted right up against home. Excellent results. Driveway was removed and replaced in 3 hours with no damage to nearby home. They did the work promised at the promised price........J. Halter, Glen Ellyn, IL\n\nDamico Paving sealed our driveway. They did a great job. They were very professional, good price, and very fair......L. Robertson, St. Charles, IL\n\nI left a message on their answering machine asking for a quote but not expecting a fast response. I received a call the same morning from a man who had clearly listened to my message because he had already looked at his calendar and had some date suggestions for providing an estimate, based on the message I left with my availability. When he called back, he was cheerful and patiently answered all my questions (since I had never had a driveway replaced before). He also quickly set my expectations, explaining that with the truckers currently on strike, it may be a few days before he could complete the job. The estimate was at my door within 48 hours!\n\nI had several estimates, but I chose Damico because of the fast response and the details in the estimate. They even included a page of tips to remember when getting your driveway replaced.... and they were not all slanted to Damico. Very nice.\n\nThey did a great job. They arrived as scheduled and when I got home from work that night, the work had been accomplished and the worksite was clean and neat. They had even ground down part of my cement curb which now gives me a very smooth turn into my garage. No dug up lawn, no tire treads across my lawn, very clean and neat.\n\n

I called Damico paving for an estimate on my driveway. I spoke with Brad, He came out the next day and handed me an estimate on the spot. I called Brad after I got approval from Will County on my project. Will county stated DAMICO paving needs to come and get the permit. I called Brad. He stated it is my duty to get the permit. So I called will county and they stated it is the contractors duty to set up the permit and show his bond. So I called Brad and explained the situation. Now 1 month later still has not returned any calls. Guess these guy's are not licensed or bonded. I do not recomend and have hired a repituable contractor for my project.

Contacted Damico paving to request pricing on having my driveway sealcoated. I was told the salesperson would be out in a couple of days. After 2 weeks I contacted the company again to request a quote. The receptionist apologized and assured me that the salesperson would contact me in a 1-2 days to schedule a time to come out. It has been another 7 days and I have still not heard back. With this lack of customer service and communication I would not recommand this company. If they can not follow up on a potential sale I can only imagine the quality of their work and their follow up if their was an issue.

I had Damico Paving replace my driveway back in '03. I have used them since for my sealcoating. I have been extremely happy with the quality, and recommend them to family & friends when I am asked for a referral. One year they had just sealed, and a neighbors dog ran across my drive leaving footprints. Even though it was not their fault, they came back by and touched up my drive at no charge. I can honestly say that they are a great company to work with.

I was having problems with OTHER sealcoating companys. I wanted someone who would notify me that they were coming, and instead, I would have guys at my driveway, ready to seal. Not with Damico Paving. They called me the day before they came out, which gave me much time to move things off my driveway. Not only did they take their time, but the guys made conversation with me as well. I will always use Damico Paving for all of my driveway needs! Make sure you use this company, and remember....If you don't get a call the day before, It is NOT the right company and I would highly recommend refusing their services! A company that won't call before they come has BAD NEWS written all over them!

We were concerned from the start when Damico Paving showed up last fall in the dark to pave our driveway. We were told they do it all the time so we just had to deal with it. Not certain how they saw anything they were doing.\r\n\r\nWell needless to say they didn't see everything and our asphalt was laid higher than our garage floor. The winter proved a terrible experience with ice constantly forming under our garage door and our new garage floor is now chipping because of it.\r\n\r\nLuckily Damico sent their arrogant salesman Rob back out to explain to us how it is never their fault and we just don't understand asphalt and probably life had I let him stay long enough. Hopefully our neighborhood will use other paving companies this season and beyond.

I had my driveway replaced two years ago by Damico Paving. I was and still am very satisfied with the quality of my driveway. I waited some time till I posted my review, knowing that they always start out looking nice, but then, if not done right, can fall apart quickly. Two year, and two rough winters later, the driveway looks as good as new. Their salesmen Rob, was very informative and knowledgeable. I have received many compliments on my drive, and will continue to refer my friends & neighbors.

I hired Damico Paving last year to do my 87 year old grandfathers driveway. I realized that my granfathers driveway had become very unsafe and at his old age did not want to take chances on him falling down and needing yet another hip replacement. As my granfathers power of attorney I felt it was my responsibilty to check out pricing, companies and all other details of paving, seal coating ect... I called 3 companies and gathered all my bids. I decided to use Damico Paving located in St.Charles because they were the most helpful and educated me on the paving process. I also explained to them my situation and that I was working with a limited amount of money. They were VERY fair and treated both me and my grandfather with respect. Since then, I have refered my clients, friends and additional family members to Damico Paving and I will continue to do so. I am confident in their work and could not be happier with the level of service that they provide. Thanks Again Damico Paving...!!!!!

Pros: Damico Paving is an all around GREAT company

In today's day and age where customer service is hard to find. Damico paving & sealcoating. Gave me a quick free estimate. Arrived when scheduled and did a great job putting in my new driveway. I called in march about sealcoating and I'm already on the list once it gets warm enough. They were so good to deal with, my wife sent them a thank you card!

I give this company an A+ I needed to have my driveway replaced and called 4 different companies. 2 companies never called back and out of the other 2, Damico was the most professional and had a very fair price. After reading the 2 other reviews on this site, I wanted to be sure. I called the village inspector. Due to village rules he couldn't formally recommend a specific company. He did tell me that Damico is a quality company and that he used them on his personal house, His parents also had a new driveway put in by Damico From the initial phone call to the driveway being installed, we were more than satisfied. I don't write many reviews, but was so pleased that I had to pass the word. I've seen their signs all over town and now I know why. I have the best looking driveway in the neighborhood. After this long hard winter we've had my driveway still looks perfect. I had a question about seal coating and called. I received a return call promptly with the information that I needed. I would recommend this company to anyone that needs a new driveway and told Damico they can use me as a reference anytime!!

I had a driveway put in three years ago by Damico and it was seal coated every time by them as well. My driveway is now sinking in several areas where water is pooling. I have asked Damico to look at their workmanship and they gave me an estimate of $8, 500.00 to put on another 2"" of overlay. Just like the original posted, this is around a culvert that they put in when installing the driveway. The top of the pipe area is cracking open in the pavement. They say they only give a one year warranty and it doesn't matter how it is after that.\r\n\r\nI have had other paving companies come out to look at the problems and they say the base is not correct and would need to be replaced down to the dirt. The original driveway that they replaced was there for 35 years. I just wanted it updated since it was getting old and tired (close to how the new driveway looks in just three years). I paid $9, 500.00 for the driveway three years ago and they want another $8, 500.00 to make it decent again.. but may only last for another year.\r\n\r\nI will never use them again and no they won't be doing the repairs. I will go to a place that stands behind their product.

Pros: It looked nice for the first year

Cons: It fell apart after the first year - even though Damico maintained it

.

This place couldnt set a time to install the drive and took over a month. Then when they do the drive they messed it up by putting in the wrong culvert pipe 24ft, not the 26ft as agreed to. We had agreed to a diagram of what exactly was to be done, none of it was done correctly. They were very rude and said they would only accept payment when work was done correctly. All lies, I have contacted the city of St. Charles, the city of Wheaton, the Attorney Generals office of the State of Illinois, and other local government offices. I would reccomend to stay away and if you want photos of the job they did I will send them to anyone who wants one. My job puts me in contact with many in the government and public, I will let them all know to stay away from Damico Paving.
