.

I had D & H install two roof-mounted HVAC units in Feb 2008. Both have special and expensive allergy-reducing X8788 filters in them. My review is not about this installation, but about the poor service since then.
1) For over 3.5 years D & H technicians have come to our home twice a year (that??s seven times!) and NEVER ONCE have any of them informed us that when you have the X8788s, you DO NOT NEED REGUALR FURNACE FILTERS IN YOUR RETURN DUCT ANY LONGER! -- So what? We are a couple in our seventies, and thus D & H has made us sweat cleaning & replacing regular filters for all these years, totally unnecessarily! This waste of double filtration also makes the units work too hard, reducing their longevity!
2) Originally the D & H story was that we were to replace the X8788s (at 2 x $150 = $300) every two years, in ??even? years. But a year later they changed it to ??odd years?, cashing in another $300 ? the story has changed EVERY YEAR, but not their taking of $300 (on top of an annual service contract of $278).
3) Each year when they come out on their service visit, they say to me, the customer(!) ??Why didn??t YOU (!) order the filters a month ago?? WHAT!? That??s like taking your car in for a 5000 mile ??Lube & Oil? and being told ??Why didn??t you (the CUSTOMER!) bring your oil filter with you?? ?? It is the JOB of a service outfit to order & have all the parts ready BEFORE their technicians come out on a call scheduled months earlier!
4) Speaking of scheduling: D & H has an email address through which to make service call appointments. I have USED it for years, or tried to. But each year, after a MONTH of getting no email answer at all, I have to telephone to make the appointment.
5) All in all, after having paid D & H around $20,000 in 3.5 years, I am STILL not ??on their radar? (in their computer, if they even have one?), and end up groveling & begging for haphazard annual service calls. None of those calls have ever taken place without some (totally avoidable) ??followup? call. This is NO WAY to treat paying customers, especially when they are senior citizens!
DO NOT ALLOW D & H TO TOUCH YOUR STUFF!

This letter is intended tell a story about my experience in dealing with D and H Air Conditioning and Heating, and hopefully help YOU not make the same mistake as I did. It has been the worst experience in quality, customer service and incompetence. They
lie, have no integrity and have bad service. All they care about is your money, and the reason I chose to have them install my new A/C system is because of their guarantees and my history of positive experiences with the present owners grandfather.
They sized the system based on the square footage of my home, and as I later found out is not the correct sizing method. D and H over sized my system by 30+%. After the installation, the summer humidity levels in my home got up to 66% and warped my laminate wood floors. There was equipment failure within the first 6 months. There was a mess left behind with insulation and drywall dust all over. The return duct was not properly connected which caused dirty, dusty attic air to be sucked into the ventilation system and into my home. After all this, My wife and I decided to use the
??100% money back guarantee? that D and H offers (in writing), which consists of having them remove the system and refund our money. They refused! D and H guarantees are a lie, used as a tactic to get you to buy from them but they will not honor it. They
have been to our house 22 times in the last 3 years. I have Complained to the Register of Contractors and still the problems have not been resolved. D and H sent someone from their company to run a ??heat load calculation? to ensure proper sizing, and said the 4 ton was in fact the right size. They also told me that I am required to keep my house at 71 degrees to remove proper humidity. My wife and I are comfortable at 79 degrees, telling me to keep it at 71 degrees is outrageous. I found another company called Trusted Heating and Cooling and asked them to run a heat load calculation on my home. They informed me that to keep my house at 75 degrees and achieve proper dehumidification, I only need a 3 ton Lennox not a 4 ton. The over sizing of my equipment caused my humidity level of 66%, to warp my wooden floors, and swell the doors causing them to stick. They also provided me with
documentation from Lennox, ACCA and the U.S. Department of Energy to show the importance of proper sizing. Trusted spent an hour and a half at my house and did all this at no charge. They have been great! I also found out that the person D and H sent
to run the heat load calculation, falsified his analysis to make the size say what they had already installed.
If you are thinking about doing business with D and H, DONT! The Grandfather definitely did not pass on his integrity, quality, and customer service.
