My cat got these weird blistery things on her forehead at the beginning of the week. I hoped it would go away, but when she woke me up on Wednesday with a friendly head butt on my forehead, there was b!ood (yikes!) and I knew I better take care of it right away. Being new to town, I found VCA animal hospital and a coupon for first visit, I called and they fit me in that day at 11 am. The wait was brief as I filled in all the forms. The vet I got appeared very knowledgeable. She checked for parasites and did some skin tests. Then told me it was likely to be an allergy and that she should get a steroid shot and antibiotics to prevent infection from the blisters. I had to put a collar on the cat for 2 weeks. Sure enough my cat recovered promptly. The total cost of the treatment with visit and $30 off coupon was $110. Seemed a little pricey to me, but it was good treatment.\r\nThe receptionist was a bit annoying arguing with me that I had a calico not a tortouiseshell cat, really who cares? But aside from that, I will go here again and recommend it.

Pros: Immediate service, knowledgeable and thorough vet

Cons: Street parking, receptionist was annoying

We switched to Misener-Holley after we moved to the neighborhood and were initially happy with the service and care, but have come to find that it has become increasingly worse each time we go.

The front desk staff is rude, they never know what is going on with our pets or our appointments, they keep us waiting and take other people in front of us when we are trying to pay for the bill and most recently- we did not receive a call back from a vet when our jack russell's symptoms of illness worsened after treatment from them (I don't know if reception didn't let a vet know to call or the vet just didnt- but either way- its unacceptable).

One of the vet techs is wonderful- a really nice young guy with blond hair- he is GREAT with the dogs, but the rest of them seem to need some training or something. On our most recent visit a vet tech stabbed my jack russell in the leg while trying to draw blood, while another would come in and out of the exam room and get the dogs worked up by making barking noises at them (they were upset about being there already- we did not think it necessary for the staff to tease them or add to the stress).

There has been a parade of new vets in and out, and no one seems to be capable of reading our dogs medical histories which requires that we give the highlights each and every visit.

Just last week we saw a vet who was new to the practice who couldn't recall that both my dogs are girls, even though the annual check up and my constant corrections, "Tate is a girl dog", should have made that clear. Then we apparently "pre-paid" for a urine test that they never completed. I only found this out after speaking to someone at the clinic when I was informed that we needed to collect the sample and bring it back within two weeks otherwise they won't acknowledge that we already paid for it- which, by the way, we didn't know we had- they billed us for services NOT rendered!

Something else to note: they always up sell vet services, blood panels, medicines, etc. Everytime we go in there, there seems to be yet another $300 blood panel one of my dogs need "for preventative" measures or some additional monthly pill/tablet etc. they should be on. I can't recall the last time we got out of there for less that $400-AND THOSE WERE WELLNESS CHECK UPS ON HEALTHY DOGS during half price vaccination days!

I would strongly encourage you to seek out a different clinic- this is not worth the expense, the inconsistent medical treatment/care, and rude receptionists.

My family has been bringing pets to Misener-Holly for care since 1976. The staff and doctors have unflailingly provided superior service, and close personal attention to our pets and us. This year, one of our cats was diagnosed with lymphoma. The vet and staff at Misener-Holly responded swiftly and with incredible empathy. They have helped us to maneuver this traumatic ordeal, listening to us unsparingly and helping us accept and cope with the inevitable.

What I discovered is this: Vet care is never cheap. No matter where you go, you will cringe at your final bill for a check-up and shots. So why not actually get decent care for your furry friend in exchange... and how about good treatment for yourself as well (after all... you are signing the check, yes?)

My family has been using Misener Holly for about 23 years now, and I think our time with them has finally come to an end. They have earned 2 stars because in those 23 years, you are bound to have a good experience here and there.

Let's start from the beginning. When you walk in, the women that greet you always have bad attitudes. There is one exception, but she's not always there, so 90 percent of the time you will be dealing with some frigid b**** the first 15 min of your stay and when you leave and pay. As I learned tonight, they no longer take walk-ins, so it's actually very necessary to have an appointment. Either way, they are never running on time, so you'll still wait. The waiting room is dark, but always very clean, so no complaints there.

The vets have obviously come and gone over the years... and if they haven't, I still see a different one every time... and with 3 dogs and a cat, that's a lot of vets to be dealing with (and re-explaining histories to). Dr. Hay is the only exception. He is fantastic. I have not had any huge let-downs as far as the care, with the exception of one woman a few years back who ran a q-tip so far into my cat's ear he started crying and bleeding. Other than that, we have only dealt with some in-experienced vet-techs that could learn to use steady hand while drawing blood.

The main let-down at this place is by far their customer service. If it wasn't for the attitude of everyone that works there, they would probably be getting 4 stars from me... and keeping my business that amounts to thousands of dollars each year... not to mention the referrals I will no longer be giving out.

Tonight was by far the straw that broke the camels back if you will. My aunts dog (she has also been going there for 20+ years) had a horrible allergic reaction to some type of bite and swelled up and broke out in hives. We called Misener to ask what time they would be open until and tell them we were bringing the dog in. The girl on the phone said as long as we got there before 7 they could see her, although she may have to wait. We said OK and my aunt ran the dog over there. Only for the receptionist to tell her that they don't take walk-ins any more and wouldn't see her at all... even with the dog they have been treating since he was born sitting there covered in bites and hives.

My 10 year old mixed breed Shih Tzu had text book symptoms of Pyometra that went mis-diagnosed by this hospital. When my dog?s symptoms worsen, with out any solid answers (a lot of guess work) took her to another Vet that properly diagnosed her and did emergency surgery that day.. She never recovered after two weeks later died in the hospital.

Oh, this VCA did refund my blood work cost that came back clean and wrong. The other Vet tested her one day later to confirm his findingS of Pyometra.

    NEVER GO TO THIS VET!!!!!!!

We have taken our pets here for years! :ast year when my dog broke his jaw, we spent hours here while they tried everything to figure out what was wrong with him. They knew we were on a limited budget and put us on a sliding scale pay plan. The staff here is excellent and Dr. Hay is great. I would highly recommend going here for any of your animal needs!
