The best exotic store that I have ever seen. All of the employees really know what they are talking about and care about all of the animals. Their selection is top notch and the enclosures are all spotless. I have gotten several animals from them and will never go anywhere else again. There is no funky pet- store smell like the dingy one down the street from them. I highly recommend this store!

I own 6 Ball pythons and one of my females laid a clutch of eggs on accident and my incubator was in storage down south so I ran the eggs over to Hogtown reptiles because they said they would hatch them out for me free of charge. I thought, what a great shop. My wife and I would periodically stop in to check on them and the incubator would always be at different temperatures and the humidity would always be way down causing the eggs to die off one by one. Eventually all of the eggs were lost due to lack of care and attention. That was my first experience with this shop. I figured okay maybe that's what I get for not being prepared but, you would think that a shop filled with such "knowledgeable" people would be able to keep that from happening. I kept going to the shop for feeder rats and supplies because they are one of the only shops in town. I then decided I wanted to get into Corn Snakes but didn't have an extensive knowledge on them so, I turned to Chris Glass, one of the owners, for advice. I was looking for a specific morph that they didn't have in the store. Chris told me he had one at home and could have it for me the following Monday, awesome right? That's what I thought. I went to pick up the snake and took a look at it. At first I was suspicious because the pattern looked off and the belly wasn't clear at all but, I felt that I could trust Chris to sell me the right snake. I paid $130 for the snake and a heating pad and left. A couple of months later I located a female snake at another shop down south that I wanted to breed to the snake that I got from Hogtown Reptiles. I took my snake with me to the other shop to pick up the female and when I got there the owner of that shop took one look at my snake and said it wasn't what I thought and that someone ripped me off, so I held off on the purchase of the female to investigate my snake. I went to 3 other shops and asked their opinions and they all said the same thing, I had been ripped off. Then I did research online and all signs pointed to it being the wrong snake. I was livid! The snake I had goes for around $35 and Chris Glass charged me $100! My wife wouldn't let me go to the shop because of how mad I was so, she went and took the snake with her. When she confronted Chris about it, he denied the fact that it was the wrong snake and refused to give a refund and instead offered to give a store credit. I didn't want a store credit, I wanted nothing to do with the store after this incident. He ended up saying he would give me the right snake and I could keep the wrong one as well. He also still denied it being the wrong snake. At this point I don't want anything produced by him or sold by him. I ended up taking the new snake anyway because he refused to do anything else for me. On top of it the store is so small and cluttered that you can barely move when inside. I always see stuck sheds on their snakes which means the the humidity is incorrect, and the occasional dead animal laying in their cages. If you need help you have to wait forever because they are so under staffed. I always sent my wife in to pick things up because it was so irritating to go in there and see those things happening. I wanted to start cleaning cages and misting the animals down myself because they didn't seem to do so. To have to deal with all of the people crammed into this tiny little box of a store made it a headache to pick up supplies. I hate to admit it but, Petsmart's reptile supplies is cheaper and they have a lot of the good brands that Hogtown carries at a fraction of the cost. I've never purchased a reptile from a reptile shop until now. I usually buy from well known breeder's and have never had any problems. I have learned my lesson and I hope no one makes the same mistake I did by buying animals from this shop. If a shop's animals aren't well taken care of and the supplies are more expensive than the big store down the road, then what's the point of shopping there? I know it isn't for their knowledge.

Hogtown Reptiles is run buy 3 guys who know everything about all reptiles. I got a juvie bearded dragon this month, and these guys have been a life saver. I call them when I have a "emergency" and they tell me Smaug will be fine. I come into the store saying "I read online I should get this" Chris, Doug, and Dave tell me I don't need it. They could easily take advantage of me and tell me I need to buy things. They always tell me what I ABSOLUTELY need and what would be a waste of money. The store is clean and full of many cool exotic reptiles.

This has to be one of the cleanest, most extensive collections of reptiles and amphibians offered on the retail market today. Chris and Doug are extremely personable and knowlegable, and the selection of potential pets for sale is extreme, from newts to frogs, from common turtles and snakes to albino boas and mata matas. A visit to this pet shop is a pleasure and as good as going to a zoo. Bring the kids, they'll be thrilled.

Excellent reptile store! The cages and the store are kept clean. The staff have all been very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are good and they beat Petsmart and Petco on their supplies. Great selection of both animals, books and supplies. I recently bought a Bearded Dragon and Blood Python, both are healthy as can be and doing great! Well worth the ride up from Ocala.

Yes indeed. World Class little shop of herps. These guys are the best out there and so happy to see them return to Hoggetown after a long absence. The reptile world is full of slimy persons and stinky dirty smelly shops. This one is the best. Knowledgeable staff healthy great looking stock. Worth a long trip. Welcome back to Gville.

I visited a couple of reptile stores with my kids to pick out a pet for my son. The owner, was very helpful and spent a great deal of time with us going over all the options. He was very knowledgeable and the store had an amazing variety of reptiles. I found the atmosphere to be clean and fresh - unlike the other reptile store in town! Hogtown is THE place to go for reptiles in Gainesville.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with this shop. Doug, the owner, remembers me by name, knows my pets, even knows my usual order. Everyone he hires is extremely professional and incredibly knowledgeable in their field. The store is always clean. Never stinks. Brightly lit, friendly atmosphere. I would recommend this store to anyone with any interest in reptiles.
