VERY IMPORTANT: DON'T CONFUSE PURE AIR HEATING & COOLING (WHEATON, IL) WITH PURE AIR HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING (GLENVIEW, IL, www.pure-comfort . com). PURE AIR HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING ARE THE GOOD GUYS!!!

Don't use Pure Air Heating & Cooling (Wheaton, IL)! They charged us for the installation of a new a/c condenser and A-coil in mid-June 2010. Our system stopped working twice in a two month period, resulting in several days without working A/C. Matt, the installer did not install a new A-Coil (but we still paid $420 for it!!!). We had to contact two different companies to correct problems caused by Pure Air Heating & Cooling (Wheaton, IL). These guys are crooks at best.

A Carrier certified company had to come out and inspect their installation and redo EVERYTHING! We paid nearly $1400 to two other companies on top of the $3000 that we paid Pure Air Heating & Cooling (Wheaton, IL) to fix their poor work because they refused to come out and fix it themselves (without charging us more money, of course!)

They will not do a quality job, and worse yet seem to believe that they are not responsible for correcting issues that they caused. Don't use Pure Air Heating & Cooling (Wheaton, IL)!!!!

VERY IMPORTANT: DON'T CONFUSE PURE AIR HEATING & COOLING (WHEATON, IL) WITH PURE AIR HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING (GLENVIEW, IL, www.pure-comfort.com). PURE AIR HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING ARE THE GOOD GUYS!!!

1. Matt, the installer cracked a water drainage PVC pipe resulting in minor water damage in our basement. He came out to replace it.

2. Matt installed the larger A/C condenser on the same foundation brackets outside our house off center and unfastened, leaving it to move when running. We propped it up to prevent it from falling off the brackets and being damaged - our warranty wouldn't cover this.

3. Michelle and Matt both assured us in writing that the new system would qualify for a $450 tax credit, despite me pointing out that the government website stated otherwise. We counted on this tax return as part of our budget for the project, relying on Pure Air's expertise (which proved to be incorrect). Carrier informed me that this system didn't qualify when I tried to get my tax documents.

4. After repeated attempts to get them to bolt it down or move it on to a pad on the ground we contacted Carrier, who contacted Temperature Equipment Corporation. They told Pure Air to come out and put it on a pad on the ground. Matt came out with someone I can only imagine to be his son (maybe 14 years old?!?), and wedged a 1-1/2" plastic pad in between the brackets and the A/C condenser, raising it's height. He didn't fasten it in any way, or support it from underneath. It still wobbled, and may fall off the brackets. He told me this was the best he could do without us spending an additional $600 to move it on the brackets or to the ground.

5. Three days later our A/C stopped cooling altogether. It ran constantly, made a very loud noise and was frozen over at both the condenser and the furnace, as well as around the A-Coil. We contacted Pure Air with no response. It was 100 degrees outside, and 85 degrees inside. My wife has asthma, so this was a borderline emergency. We contacted ServiceMagic.com, who recommended using another company (name withheld out of courtesy to them). They came out the next morning and put 2-3/4 lbs of freon into our new system because Matt from Pure Air had left the schrader valve pushed in, so it was constantly bleeding freon. This cost us $475 for the service call and freon, in addition to a whopping $250 electric bill for the first month our new unit was in service.

6. Pure Air refused to pay us for the other company needing to recharge their system, despite the urgent nature, and the recommendation from ServiceMagic.com to not allow Pure Air back out to our house.

7. The company that came out for the freon recharge listed several items with Pure Air's installation that were done incorrectly, among them that the condenser wasn't fastened to the brackets, was placed off center, all joints were soldered instead of using copper brazing (weaker seal, prone to leaking over time), and the condenser was positioned in such a way that we couldn't open the electrical shut off box outside our house. They quoted us $650 to correct these issues. Pure Air refused to repay these charges, as well.

8. We submitted photos and scans of documents to ServiceMagic.com's contractor dispute resolution department for them to get involved. After a month of communications back and fourth, they have determined that this is a "he said/she said" situation, in which neither party can prove where damages were incurred, and who would be responsible for correcting them. Pure Air's stance was that "they don't do foundation work, and moving brackets was not within the contract." I would think that "doing a good job" shouldn't have to be written on a contract.

9. Late in the evening 8/16 -similar noise when A/C is running, indoor temperature is rising, both ends are frozen over. We've contacted numerous companies to come out and give us estimates for repairing our 2 month old broken system. Here's what we learned from a visit from a Carrier Authorized Installer
- The line filter was not replaced, and did not match the capacity of the condenser
- As we suspected, everything about the installation was done incorrectly (not being centered or fasted to the brackets, etc)
- We paid for, and DID NOT receive a new A-Coil!!!

In total, we spent $4380 for a $3000 installation because of Pure Air Heating & Cooling (Wheaton, IL). They are unprofessional, unreliable, won't respond in kind to follow up calls, and do not care if they leave your property damaged and unsafe.

This contractor explained everything he worked on and gave me info on my A/C unit to help me evaluate its performance. Also was on time for his appointment.

Matt came out on Sunday night and tried to fix my air conditioner. We determined that it was beyond help. He came out again on Monday night and replaced it. He was extremely nice and he did an excellent job of making sure that we had air conditioning as soon as possilbe. I would definitely recommend him to any one that needs heating or air.

Oustanding customer service & reasonable price! Matt the technician was professional, punctual and thoughtful. Within moments he identified the issue and my furnace was fixed. After a terrible experience last yr with a company from yellow pgs (per tech, my 4 yr old hvac would need to be replaced in a yr) I am so grateful for the time Matt spent discussing: my HVAC model, its current condition-good, what I could expect as its useful life, how to prolong its life & maint. schedule. Before talking to Matt I was stressed any little issue meant replacement-the peace of mind is priceless - Thank you Matt - definitely recommend Pure Air & Matt

These guys have been in the business for over 10 years, only recently have they done work through ServiceMagic. Outstanding service, Michelle called literally after 30 seconds of completing my request. Matt was very knowledgeable, did a thorough job, and also provided recommendations on ways to prolong the life of my furnace. Did I mention they were $35 less than any other quote I received?!? Top notch all around!!

The technician, Matt, came on time; he was very thorough and explained the problem and fixed it...we thought. When the furnace failed again I called and he came right back. The furnace needed to be replaced. Once again Matt was on time, and explained the process to me clearly, and answered all my questions. I was impressed at the care he took while working in my condo. I don't think I've ever had anyone who took such great care not to mar walls or leave a spots on the (white) carpet. I would definitley recommend Pure Air and Matt to anyone.
