I'm not sure what the hype is about this restaurant. My boyfriend and I went to BOA for dinner last Friday and did not have a pleasant experience. I ordered the prawns and noticed 2 of the 5 prawns were not clean. At this point I had already taken one bite of out each prawn. The manager stopped by to ask us if we need anything and I showed him my unpleasant discovery on my plate (shrimp poop). He told me he would bring me back a new plate, which is exactly what he did. Not only did he take my plate (with other food that I ordered that he did not replace) and swapped it for a new one, he also put the two shrimp that were not cleaned back on my plate (half eaten). I think the least he could have done was replace the two half eaten prawns with two new prawns. Once we received out bill we notice that the waiter also charged us for 3 cocktails when we only ordered two. It took us almost 20 minutes to check out after asking the waiter to correct our bill. The service is extremely slow.\r
\r
I found this place to be very cheap and unorganized. You are not getting what you pay for. The food is very overpriced and only rates as ""average"". \r
\r
The management needs training on how to treat customers as the are very ""snooty"" and do not care about the customers dining experience.

I had a chance to have dinner here on my birthday a while back. The filet was phenomenal and service was top notch. If you've been to BOA, you know it's a scene. Great people watching, a high energy atmosphere, and great steaks makes BOA an LA staple!

Pros: Atmosphere and steaks!

the energy of the place is horrible along with the service. If you're young and out with friends Santa Monica BOA is the place to go...even if it's farther...the staff is way better, faster, and you can walk along the beach after dinner

Cons: nothing but old people

It is worth coming here just to see the space and enjoy the scene. Very roomy, big patio area. Perfect for happy hour (5-7p) - everything is only $6, including the most delicious kobe sliders. If I had any friends, I would definitely want to hang out with them here. You will probably see celebrities - I saw Halle Berry and I never see anyone... The steak (filet) was superb - I chose their 'J-1' Sauce (like an upgrade on A-1) - lots of different kinds of steaks and sauces (and rubs). The salmon served on the cedar plank was top-notch. Be prepared to spend some money - but again, the happy hour gets you in the door for pocket change...

We went to BOA on Sunset for Valentine's Day and had a very average experience. We approached the front desk and the hostesses (the typical aspiring actresses) were busy playing around with the LCD monitor. They were having trouble reading or finding something on the screen.\r
\r
Even though the restaurant was 2/3 empty, we were seated outside on the balcony- We were assured that there were heat lamps outside. Unless your date is Amish and wearing a dress that comes down to her ankles, she will be freezing if the temperature is in the low 50's. When we complained, we were moved to the lounge area where there were make-shift tables (basically two small bar tables put together). Again, the main dining area was 2/3 empty. We noticed two other tables with people, who happened to be the same race as us, but I won't go there. \r
\r
We had the crab cakes for appetizer, and it tasted similar to a combination of Gordon's fish sticks and Boca burger. The NY Strip also tasted average, but they did have an extensive wine list. I would definitely give four stars to the server who was very friendly and attentive, and also the bar staff. Otherwise, we had a very average experience there. BOA is definitely a second-tier steakhouse. I've been to everywhere from Peter Luger, Smith & Wollensky's and Sparks in NY, Ruth's Chris, The Cut etc. and this place doesn't come close. If anything, I would just come here for drinks and hang out at the bar.

My boyfriend and I are both cooks and we went here looking for a fantastic and delicious dinner. The service was great- the cocktails are AMAZING and SOOOOO tasty. My filet was the best filet I've ever had. His Kobe beef, which should be totally yummy, was NOT very good- chewy and mediocre, and pretty much a huge rip off. The foie gras appetizer was AWFUL. our friend that came with us ordered the salmon special (cornmeal crusted salmon with risotto) and it was REALLY REALLY AWFUL. the salmon was so salty she had to send it back, and then when they brought the new one we realized that the risotto was crunchy and didnt really even taste good with salmon, and overall it was just a really poor dish. For dessert we had bananas foster, which was just a square of puff pasty with some caramel mush and bananas. gross. I can cook frozen puff pastry myself. and it was so tough that I could barely cut through it. The service was great and they didnt make us pay for the salmon, but still, we kind of wanted to just have GOOD food, not FREE food.\r
\r
My verdict- cocktails- DELICIOUS :) \r
Filet- awesome!\r

Been here once and now that I think about it, I'm not sure I haven't been back. \r
\r
Anywho. The food is GREAT! Went with a group of four and we all had different things; which we all loved. The lobster is fantastic. The steak was good, but I shouldn't really comment since I'm not a fan of steak (why go to a steakhouse then, huh? lol) \r
After dinner we crossed over to the lounge/bar area. It wasn't too crowded, but I forget what day of the week it was. Drinks were good, service was excelent. We had a very friendly waiter, very talkative. \r

Cons: It can be a bit pricey, but... you gotta pay up if you want real quality.

My boyfriend made reservations at Boa Steakhouse for my birthday. The restaurant was pretty empty at 3pm on a Saturday, which gave our party of six, a sense of privacy. The decor was nice consisting of brown pillowy walls, twig room dividers and interesting lights. Boa Steakhouse was quite impressive with attentive service, delicious dishes along with notable cocktails including the Oaxacan martini, Mc Strawberry Shortcake and the Boa Infusion. \r
\r
We opted for the Seafood Appetizer Platter consisting of crab legs, half a lobster, oysters and more. The platter was enough for four people.\r
\r
I ordered the 40-day old aged NY strip steak, which was to die for. My brothers ordered Porterhouse steaks, which were huge! \r
\r
Overall, our experience at Boa was great and our waiter even served us cheese fries on the house =) I'm definitely going there again sometime soon.

My boyfriend loves steak, so i brought him over to BOA @ west hollywood on his birthday. The service was great, and the food was excellent. The only things I don't like were the soup (it's something with tomato, coconut, and lobster... not so good) and the waitress (she was studying her midterm or final at the bar, which kinda drive me crazy). I think this place is highly recommended.

Boa has the best steak....so far it's #1 steak house on my list. I tried the 6 OZ. Wagyu NY strip, is so tender that the meat melts in my mouth. For those who never tried Wagyu beef before, this is the place to have your 1st Wagyu beef. Outside dining area is perfect for a date, the service is excellent however inside dining area is a little bit too loud. If you are a steak lover, you should definitely try their Wagyu steak

I love steak, I would classify myself as an expert, and the bone in filet I had at Boa was the best steak I have ever had. Absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. Wait staff was very polite and attentive, as well as knowlegable. I am already planning what I'm going to try next when I go back.

BOA is a fantastic place to eat. Either the Caesar Salad or Wedge to start, and the Petit Fillet with the peppercorn rub is always perfect. Delectable sidedishes include the best mac & cheese in town (next to ""Republic"") and an outstanding horseraddish & potato. The service is brilliant and the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The only drawback is an excessively expensive winelist. But you only live once, so eat, drink & enjoy!

My boyfriend and I decided to check out Boa's since we've heard so much this place and figured it can't be too bad if there's three locations and has high ratings at every location. My first impression of this trendy hollywood place was pleasant as expected with the modern decor and somewhat loud but nice ambient music. Polite servers. We started with the nachos which left a funky aftertaste and the caesar salad. The Caesar salad was good and made fresh by our table, however nothing really that spectacular.... I ordered the special halibut and it was cooked perfectly, however the sauce was a bit bland. My bf ordered the aged new york steak and that was muy yummy. Mac n cheese was salty and disappointing needless to say. Overall, I'd say it's a place to go for the experience, but I wouldn't go back there again.

Horrible Service!\r
\r
This is one of my worst experience ever. Not only was the hostess rude, the manager, Scott Young, was even ruder. There was a mess up on our reservation time and we waited for an extra hour without a table at the end (because they were waiting for their other guests to leave). When discussing the issue with the manager, not only was he not accommodating, he became extremely defensive and was rude to the whole party. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. It's overpriced without any service at all!

I was supposed to have my bday party here, but first they had the reservation time wrong, second, they did not even have a table ready for us even after half an hour after their recorded reservation time(when we got there an hour early!!!) third, the hostess and the manager were rude and unapolegetic. After expressing our concerns with the manager, whom I had spoken to before earlier in the day, we got an unsincere apology with no compensation to be offered. Having been so frustrated we ended up at a contrastly very satisfying restaurant, George's Bistro. I will never attempt to eat her again....

Amazing dinner...took a couple friends from out of town to eat at the BOA on sunset...amazing. Wowed my friends from Baltimore. Had caesar salad made at the table that was strong and amazing. Steaks were all amazing...one was sent back because my friend wanted a little more fire on it, came back right away in the hands of an extremely friendly manager. Drinks were well made and wine list was large and top-notch. This place just never lets me down. I don't usually write reviews, but for BOA, you could probably get me wash my dishes before I left.

The first question i always ask about a restaurant, is ""would you go back""..... well, no I wouldn't. But I wasn't disatisfied with my experience. For the $ there are better options. After sending our steak back 3 times to have it cooked longer, we eventually gave up and settled. By that time the rest of the party had already finished their meals. They did comp us dessert for the trouble, I would have preferred a properly cooked steak :). The weight staff was a 9/10 and I really dug the swank atmosphere.

My boyfriend and I love going to Boa's West Hollywood location for exceptionally-prepared meat (we always get the petit filet, and have never been disappointed), decadent side dishes (he loves the macaroni and cheese; I like it too, but prefer the creamed spinach), and our favorite dessert (two warm chocolate chip cookies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). The wine selection has historically been ample, though they are currently re-doing their list, so selection is somewhat limited. As for decor, the place feels hip and current, with screens of woven twigs partitioning off the geometric little nooks of tables from each other. Service is also excellent, with very attentive and knowledgeable waiters (like many in this town, they are almost all of the ""actor-hopeful"" variety). Boa is a great place to go on a date and to take friends in search of the modern thrill of the Sunset Strip. (NB: Their Sunday night wine special - 50% off any bottle - is a great way to cap off the weekend.)

We dined in this restaurant on Saturday night at 9:15pm. Service at the bar was great, bartener was very nice and friendly. Our Waiter was so stuck up! Service was slow, unattentive, took forever for our Entree. No one check up on us! Waiter was stuck up and did not care about our dining experience. He clearly was there for his tip only. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.

Reservations were made and we still waited 45 minutes to be seated. And excuse me, we were on time. This extremely cramped space allows no breathing room for anyone. Our orders arrived to the table Cold AND Incorrect, how about that. Myself and the rest of my party complained to the manager and he was very nonchalant about our ordeal. If you must try this place for yourself, ladies bring your walking shoes. The restroom is practically a mile away...I'm not kidding.

Pros: louge has great martinies

Cons: everything else was unsatisfatory

Maybe we dined on a ""nasty chef"" day - bottom line, they had nothing our large group wanted, they were out of sauce, they were out of everything, the service was incredibly slow, like\r
1.5 hr. wait for food. The taste is not as great as the presentation. Ambiance was crisp and clean with enough privacy distance between diners. Not impressed.

Pros: Nice ambiance, great location, nice presentation

Cons: Slow slow slow service and low availability of menu items

From the hostess who changed our reservation (after confirming) and small drinks to the mediocre table service & food...it's unimpressive. Did I mention we were rushed? Highly overrated.

Don't come here unless you are ok with spending $$$$ for $ quality food and service. The place is a typical trendy restaurant you'll find anywhere in LA... but the pricing is not justified by the menu or service or decor. I guess if you a star or celebrity it would make sense... but not a place I would recommend.

I went here on a recent Thursday night and I came way impressed. It was some of the best service I've ever gotten in L.A., especially on Sunset. Courteous and attentive. Steaks and sides were great. Salad selections were okay. Atmosphere was fun and funky. It can't get a little loud so don't come here if you are looking for a quiet dinner. I would recommend this place for a fun night out like a birthday dinner.

In town from NY, went to BOA on Sunset. It was a great experience from the friendly service, to the great décor and hip crowd. Most important the steak was perfect. First class all the way. Keep it up. A must try.

I had heard of Boa for a while and finally got to try it a few weeks ago. I was hoping the 40 day aged steak was going to be one of the best steaks I've had. It wasn't even close... not bad... just not great. Ambiance is nice... trendy place that is worth going

My girlfriend and I waiting over 30 minutes for a table after having a reservation. Not a huge deal; however, the hostesses were painfully rude even for LA. The food is not good enough for the staff to have such an attitude. I would recommend Lincoln or Morton's - a lot better food and managers who hire decent staff.

Nice view of the ocean from the balcony tables on a sunny day in Santa Monica. Steaks are recommended, very well seasoned with rock salt and spices, french fries a little soggy, pasta special nothing special, service friendly but slow, which caused the food and mochas to be a little cold when arriving at the table.

Overall BOA is a typical sunset restaurant. Steak prices were average compared to other prime steakhouses. I went there for valentine's day and expected a little nicer ambiance and feel for what they portray on their website. The seating was very small and cramped. I had to move the table over a little bit in order for my Girlfriend to squeeze through without knocking over other peoples drink glasses. If you plan on going I recomend the Bone in Rib Eye $36, very tender and juicy, and the Crab Cake for an appitizer. If your looking for a cool stylish hollywood restaurant this isn't the place. But if you like to dine out at these sunset restaurants this place would suffice to satisfy a steak craving.

If you don't mind sitting elbow to elbow with loud and possibly obnoxious suburbanites and being nose to I-won't-mention-what while they get up to use the restroom, then maybe you won't mind the bland and buttery escargot, a standard bread roll, and uneventful vegetables ala carte to get to a quite good filet mignon. What Boa lacks in originality and reasonable prices (and I'll pay anything for a great meal, but hate paying everything for a poor one) it makes up in exquisite service and a wonderful Port selection. Try lunch and a drink, and don't waste your time on dinner during weekends, nothing pretty to see.

I find it hard to believe all these positive reviews I have read about Boa here. I am from NY, so I know steaks. Went there Sat night with 3 friends. Had the signature NY strip. Ordered Medium and it came out looking like a Hockey Puck. My other 3 friends ordered their steaks Medium Rare and they came out with no juice. The steak also tasted horrible. They bring you dipping sauces. A good steak does not need dipping sauces. One of the sauces I can tell you was A1. Very classy!!!!! The sides were very small. When I order a side they should feed 2-3 people not 1. I should have known something was up when I saw the prices. Not very high compared to a steak house like Mastros. Which by the way is the place to go if you want the best steak in LA.

i took my bf to BOA to celebrate his bday. i had made reservations and we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. the service was WONDERFUL, the hostess was courteous and our server was very attentive and checked back regularly to see how we were doing. the food was absolutely delicious. he had the new your steak and i had the filet mignon. both were cooked medium rare just as we had ordered it. the steak literally melt in your mouth. we ordered both steaks without any rubs and sauces and it was DELICIOUS! it was a little pricey but definitely worth it. i spent about $200 for lots of food. i ordered an appetizer (giant prawn shrimp), new york steak, filet mignon, a dessert, a side, and 2 glasses of wine. great value for the wonderful food and service!!

i've been to 15 restaurants in los angeles that specialize in steak, and boa consistently has the best steak and, equally important, the best service. great intimate, new york-style atmosphere, too. this place is a gem.
