this is my second visit to 3 of cups. the ifrst was fantastic. food was great and serivce was pro-like. on our second visit, something went wrong. the staff was a bit uptight, i dont know some stress in the air definately. anyway, the food was still pretty good, but not as charming as its memory of our previous visit. giving them a 4 star - but mainly due to last time...

My husband and I have been dining at Three of Cups for years and have always had a great meal. There are a variety of great Italian meals to choose from. The soups, salads, pizzas, pastas, and entrees are all incredible. If you want a great meatball then you must visit! The owners always come around to greet you and the staff is very friendly. Linguine and white clam sauce, cesaer salad, risotto specials, etc... are all delicious!!!! Dining here is a must!!!!!!!

Born in the L.E.S. n raised in Gravesend (Brooklyn). I know good Italian food (especially Pizza & Pasta) and the Three Of Cups has both. Thin crust pizza fresh from the wood burning oven with all types of choices as toppings. VG pasta and new specials, dishes when i come back to the place after i been away for awhile. Prices & portions have always been very fair (especially considering how the East Village has changed). I have recommended the place to friends and even family and everybody has been happy. I don't have to leave Brooklyn to get a good Italian meal, but i do go to the East Village for the Three of Cups. Now if they could only do something about the parking!

Went here with a group of girls for a birthday dinner recently and it was just awful. My friends reservation was never taken, so we waited an hour or more. The owner or manager was not very helpful or nice about the situation. No one really enjoyed the food. The bread was very stale and we asked three times before we got it. The pizza appetizers we got were burnt and cold. How does that happen? Nothing went right and I recommend you try other neighborhood Italian restaurants. I will not be going back.

Super delicious food and a great atmosphere. The Pizza Contadina is very delicious. Meatballs were very well prepared. The portions are not very big, but the flavor definitely makes up for it.

The first time i ate there was with some actor friends of mine. Great pizza and italian food. It is a bit unorthodox from the usual N.Y. pizza places but than again this is cuisine not take out but i think you can order out . Nice ambiance with brick walls and from what i saw las time i was there the lounge is the place to be if you are a socialite. Plenty of drinks women and entertainment.

I heard that this place had been in the EV for the last 15 years and decided to try it out. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. The meatballs were cold on top of bland marinara. The pizza came out burned. When the owner came over to look at the pizza, he said it was meant to be that way. He was very rude! We will not be returning.

Been here with my roommate a couple times for brunch. The french toast is delicious!! I dream about it. Service is fast & good, always the same waitress who is funny & always remembers us. Good special, came with a mimosa which was delish. Definitely our fave brunch spot in the village. Polenta was good too...but that french toast is damn good. I vaguely remember going to the lounge one night but I was trashed. Hot rocker guys yum equally delicious.

i lived w/an old girlfriend on the top floor of this building (crnr of 5th and 1st ave) almost 20 yrs ago, when the 3ofCups was a take-out chicken shack. moved to brooklyn soon after they built the restaurant, and never had a chance to eat there. recently reconnected w/the ex (thank you 'facebook') and we agreed to meet there to have dinner. a good call. got there at 730, sat at the bar to wait for my friend. owner was at the pizza counter helping a little kid build his own pizza. cute, so i let it slide that the guy was a yankees fan (go red sox!). pizzas looked good, big wood burning oven, but we did seafood thing instead. baked clams and a big bowl of mussels (soak up the sauce w/their bread!) and then we split the skate special. never had it before, but delicious. broiled with capers and lemon butter and spices, like a sole, but with a little more more personality. desserts were AWESOME - save some space. tiramisu and a pistachio ice cream 'snowball' - ice cream lover's fantasy. easily could've split one dessert, and maybe one appetizer as well - big portions - and after, we needed a walk around the neighborhood just to recover from the feast.

been a customer for maybe 10 of 15+ years they've been in business. i don't write reviews because 1) don't believe 'em, and 2) don't read 'em. i'm that selfish old-school NYer who keeps my favorite's a secret. but was surprised recently to hear after pitching 'cups' to good friends from LA that they were 'worried' by a few bad reviews posted here. hmm. life's simple pleasures mean a lot to me, so now i sharpen my pencil.

Pros: The food

Cons: no reservations for parties under 8

I highly recommend Three of Cups - there's a reason it's been around for over 15 years. The pizza is to die for... authentic thin crust brick oven pizza - always cooked to perfection. The pasta tastes like it's right out of grandma's kitchen... And, you can't leave without trying the arancini. Considering how good the food is, the prices are surprisingly inexpensive. If you enjoy Italian and or Sicilian food - you'll love it. An added bonus - it's a great place for people watching and celebrity spottings. Must try!!

This place is the best for a party. The pizza with arugla, fresh tomatoes, olives and mozzarella is crisp on the dges and full of flavor. One of the best I have ever had. The sangria kills. The prices and portions really work for a faily style party setting. The lounge downstairs has great tunes and East Village vibe as well.

These good reviews must be bogus. This place is horrible. While sitting at the bar waiting for our table the owner/manager was so blantantly rude to the staff it was embarrassing. After being forgotten about even after giving our name for the wait list, we were seated after 45 minutes. The service was a joke. It took forever to have our server take our order. The staff is cluless on ingredients in dishes and appropriate wine parrings. Not that the wine list is even worth a look. Typical cheap bottom of the barrel choices. We got appetizers before we even got bread or our drinks. The ceasar salad dressing had turned and smelled/tasted awful. The pizza is the worst woodburning oven style I've had. Talk about skimping on toppings. $25 for a large with few toppings??? The pasta was drenched in oil and completely inedible.$8 for a side of meatballs (2)??? When the host guy (who was the only nice person in the whole place) asked us about our experience, the bully owner yanked him away and told him to stop talking to tables and seat more customers. Poor guy, he was the only one trying to make the experience enjoyable. After paying the bill, we were finishing our drinks, when the owner asked if we would mind finishing and leaving so they could seat other people, even though the place was half empty. We then went down to the ""Lounge"" to finish our drinks, and were definitely not welcome. It's a dingy, disgusting ""rock n roll"" atmosphere with the most rude and unpleasant bartender. She definitely wasn't nice to us and the thrash metal music was so loud it made it impossible to have conversation. $3 PBR. I'd rather buy my own and sit in Thomkins Square Park with the bums! This place is an embarrassment to other hardworking Italian restaurants in the area. How has it been around for so long? Only good thing: It's cheap... and it shows!

Went there on saturday night. The decor is interesting, keeping with the name...very old church like. The food was great. I had the Talapia special wich was awesome and my friends had great food as well. The one thing....so I took a pic of friends and the table and immediately a waiter (who was not our waiter) came over and told us that there was no flash photography allowed....talk about a atmosphere killer (I felt like a little kid being scolded at school).....we had not even gotten apps yet. Anyway about 5 mins later you could hear a group of people singing happy birthday and they took like 20 pics...alll flash and nobody said anything to them.......so will I return...maybe but not if we are celebrating someting cuz....NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED!

we order from here often...the food is decent, but it usually takes at least 45 minutes to an hour for delivery. tonight was especially bad...1 hour and 35 minutes. two calls to the restaurant, and one to us from a lost delivery guy later, we finally got our food--cold. time to find a new delivery guy, or get him some help.

This restaurant is one of the WORST in New York City. Hands down. Last Summer, when I moved to the neighborhood, I went and sat at the bar. I ordered a Caesar Salad and had to practically wait on myself for napkins, a fork and had to hunt down the pepper mill myself. Another time I ordered some soup and other food. Then I had them put the soup in a container to go. The bartender stole my bread and when I asked for more bread, he argued with me. I wanted to speak to the manager and the dredlocked bartender argued with me and wouldn't let me speak to him. When I went home, I tried calling to speak to the manager and the same bartender argued with me again and would not let me speak to the manager. HORRIBLE. And I do not go there anymore. And it's too bad because under real management, this could be an awesome place to dine. But it's not and it's like the owners are completely absent and let their subpar staff shoo good people away.

I read some of the previous reviews and thought I should give it a whirl. My friend ordered a pizza and I ordered a salad. The pizza was sub-par with not much flavor or anything special. My beet salad was exceptional though. It was very fresh and seasoned perfectly. However, not many people like beets, so I am not sure that helps anyone. We had a great wine, but I have to say the service was so poor it made the dining experience worse. We needed water refills or a napkin and I felt like I spent half the time chasing down our waiter. I probably will not return, but if I do, I'll order my salad to go.

I needed to arrange a dinner for 37 coworkers prior to seeing Stomp. Three of Cups was able to handle a group of this size well in the semi-private side area. Servers were extremely attentive to ensuring drinks were kept full, and that food was presented hot. The fixed group menu had an excellent variety and a reasonable price. The bruscetta was the best many had ever had. Also, the selection of beers and wines was great. Whether dinner for two or a group of 40, you'll be happy here. Everyone also appreciated it was informal, and getting dressed up wasn't necessary.

Pros: Great food. Good selection of beer and wine. Great service.

Cons: A little tight, but not restrictively so.

I went there on Saturday night 2/24/07 at 830pm. I was taking my girlfriend to watch an off broadway show (STOMP), the receptionist was very nice. Asked for a table for two and she said that they were booked, and said it would be 20-25 minutes before we can get a table. So we went downstairs and hanged out (A bit creepy and derty lol). After 25 minutes i went upstairs and found the receptionists and told her if there were any tables available, she said no. I pointed to the EMPTY booth and asked her if i could get that table since we had to leave rather quick to watch our show at 1030pm. She said no sorry, which was understandable. I really wanted to try the food there, but had to leave. The place looks fine, pretty packed. No real bad review.

BEST thincrust pizza. the atmosphere is very nice, brick, candles, nice bartender, great happy hour prices. Waiter was nice, but there were 3 of us in our party, and they squeezed us onto a 2 person table with a chair pulled up, when there were several empty 4 seater tables around. They would not let us move, and those tables remained empty the entire time, from when we sat at our tiny table to when we left! But the pizza was so good, I'd go back in a minute :)

Very well priced with good portions and attentive service. I order the Zuppa de Pesce which was well seasoned and great on a chilly night. My boyfriend had a pizza and was very happy with it. Patient waiter was able to take care of us while have to attend to a cranky crowd a table behind us. Bar downstairs was edgy without being gross with a friendly bartender. Biggest complaint- at the couples table we were sat at the tables were really narrow... get wider ones? We had to put our wine bucket on the floor and our legs didn't fit! We aren't chunky people.... we're just tall!

I went here after reading the reviews, and I was not disappointed. The place is really warm and inviting, and the food is inexpensive and good. Another night I stumbled into the lounge downstairs to discover an open mic night, and a very chill slightly edgier vibe--and cheap drinks for happy hour! Considering that I was with a really ""mixed"" crowd that night and everyone was happy, I think you just can't go wrong with this place.

This place used to be my ""go-to"" neighborhood dinner spot. I first noticed the decline in quality about a year ago, but since I loved it so much I kept giving it another chance. It truly is terrible, and it's a shame! On our last visit, I had a disappointing lamb stew, which came out cold and gelatinous. My boyfriend ordered the risotto special, which looked like a supermarket side dish of brown rice pilaf- there was absolutely nothing risotto-esque about it! The arancini we had as an appetizer tasted like the back of someone's fridge.

The feeling at this place is extremely homey, and the food is so filling and good! The pizza selection is wonderful, with nice combinations of classic ingredients. The pasta portions are giant, and you will definitely feel full after a meal here!

I went to Three of Cups for a birthday party with a group of 14 people. We all had a fantastic time and the food was tasty. I had the Rosemary chicken, which I enjoyed very much. The service was good and the ambience was comfortable.

My friend and I were looking for a place to go after a nearby restaurant informed us of their hour long waiting list. I am so glad we wandered into Three of Cups. We were seated promptly- the decor is fabulous and the crowd is hip and eclectic. The restaurant/ lounge is a maze but it just adds to the charm of the spot. The wine was great and my dinner- the artichoke and goat cheese ravioli was to die for! The prices were also suprisingly reasonable. I will definately be coming back to Three of Cups.

A great restaurant is an accumulation of a lot of things. Decor, food, service. Three of cups had all three. The decor is rustic, clean and comfortable. The service was impeccable. They didn't mind that we had more or less people than on the reservation and was willing to move tables and chairs around for us. Even though we were in the back and alone, they were VERY attentive and would pop in and out to make sure we had everything we need.

My friends and I have been there twice now. The pizza is out of this world, the pasta dishes are amazing. Even the salads are yummy! You get a very good portion for the prices. The only bad thing is, the service is horrible! We practically had to get up and flag someone down. The second time we went the waiter didn't put in our pizza order! They brought us the wrong food first and then ""our"" dinner came. You'll go thirsty trying to get a drink! But if you can put up with the bad service the food is worth the wait! The bar was great, and service there was amazing!!

Three of Cups is not just a pizza place. Although whenever I go I tend to order at least one small pie, the place has great dishes all around. Try some of their specials, you'll always be in for a treat. And their salads are some of the most interesting ones in Manhattan. But the pizza--I would die without it every week or two. Three of Cups: My favorite restaurant in New York.

It's unique ambience is worth dining in once, but the food wasn't up to par. There are too many great Italian restaurants in nyc. The staff were friendly, but the food just wasn't that great.
