I will NEVER again rent from Avalon.

When my job ended suddenly and I had to return to my home state, they were extremely inflexible about letting me out of my lease. There were other issues, too.

The lease required 60 days notice to vacate, and they charged a one-month penalty for early termination, so I paid for three months but moved out immediately. They SAID that they would ""market"" my apartment and if someone else moved in before the three months were up, I wouldn't have to pay for the full three months. As you can guess, it didn't happen. I just can't accept that they tried very hard. After all, they HAD my money; what was their incentive?

Just before I vacated the apartment, maintenance came to look it over pronounced it ""perfect."" However, after the three months were up, the complex returned my deposit ... minus some $70 for cleaning! The only people who would have been in the apartment during that time should have been potential tenants and apartment staff. Because I left it ""perfect"" (their words, not mine), that means any cleaning needed was because of the apartment complex's actions, not mine, and they should have paid for it.

Unless you're a member of active-duty military (who have some specific protections under Virginia law), save yourself the grief and rent from someone other than Avalon.
