I was referred to Dr. Silverman by my GP when he decided my thyroid problem was 'bigger than him'. Supposedly the best endo in the area, I've given him 3 tries, but remain less than impressed to say the least. A typical wait in his lobby is 2+ hours, as he consistently overbooks. You CAN pass the time, however, by listening to your fellow patients as they-one by one- become irate over their treatment. The front office staff is polite, but has to spend too much of their time covering for 'the good doc.'
Silverman's demeanor is very brusk, which I could handle if there was an ounce of concern or even expertise to gloss over it. I have found neither. After providing him with an extensive medical history-my case has been an exception to most of the rules for 9 years now- he has ignored the bulk of it, and given pat recommendations that were tried as a first course of action years ago. Whenever I have tried to tell him something( like, "I'm allergic to the dye in that med.") he has actually CUT ME OFF in midsentence; apparently patients should be seen and not heard. He isn't very open to alternatives to his edicts, either; he likes to prescribe the most popular meds, the ones that also happen to be the most heavily promoted by the pharmacuetical reps. I have to say that I wouldn't recommend going to Victor Silverman unless you're a masochist!
