Notice the mention of ticks in the other review?! I bought a puppy from Windmark Collies. Windmark also wouldn't give me records (including a copy of the eye exam) or a contract. In less than 24-hours took it to the vet. That's after spending the night picking of ticks from the poor pup at the hotel. I drove straight from the breeder to the hotel. The pup was old enough to have a topical and the two vet techs said this wasn't wasn't normal for New Mexico. I was advised to return the pup or ask for a discount to cover treatment. I returned the pup, after they wouldn't help me remove the remaining ticks (I already checked out of the hotel).

According to the owner, none of the dogs were on any tick repellent at the time and she never tested for tick-related diseases. BTW, even if you don't get lyme disease, you can still get sick from a reaction to the ticks. Be sure to wear latex gloves when picking off those suckers. The pups that I did purchase from another breeder came tick-free.

I like Windmark Collies,
My husband and I are serious breeders of the collie breed, in Texas. We do DNA health testing, show in conformation, and performance and know how to be responsible in all aspects for care of puppies.

I drove a long distance to that breeder because of the quality of her show lines and the rare EXCELLENT hip report on her main sire. It is a rare and special thing to have OFA rate a collie with EXCELLENT hips. A good breeder that has good lines and good practices that also shows should not be attacked or torn down when we need more quality out there for our loved collie breed.

I have dealt with this NM breeder and I have driven long hours to her place in the NM desert.
I stayed all day late to the night, so I got a QUALIFIED good feeling about the owner and the collies at Windmark Collies.

I like her breeding practices.
She has a good relationship with her vet and I have seen paperwork that he has a personal knowledge of all her dogs for everything.
I have seen her family, and her, love and care for her collies and puppies.
I did not see or have a problem with signs of long term tick infestation from the collies on her place or from the collies I have bought and brought home from her.
I too believe as she does, that I would delay the use of topical parasite poisons on young pups as long as I could unless it was apparent that there was an infestation.

She bathed and dried the sold puppy before it left, and would not have sold it if she knew there were ticks on the pup.

I was there the day that pup was returned and I examined all the remaining cute pups and the returned pup.

I am a witness to the wonderful perfect condition of the skin on ALL the pups and NO evidence of adult ticks or damage to those pups.
If a tick egg hatched on that pup in question at the time of sale, it does NOT mean there is anything wrong with this breeder. I was there and took photos of the extra cute healthy pups that same day of the other visitor that I saw complain.
