My wife had a terrible experience with Gary. She took her sewing machine back several times to be fixed and when she asked him why he couldn't fix it he blew up at her yelling about how great he was and that it was in fact fixed etc ect. She was stunned that anyone would treat her that way in a service business. She finally grabbed her machine and ran out. She was crying and shaking when she got home so I said that together we would go back and confront him. She begged me not to because she was sure that we would fight. I called him and he was so nice saying that my wife was not telling the truth. I said that my wife was right here and he could apologize to her. He said "you can go to hell buddy" and hung up. It appears that his wife has to take this same abuse all the time since she works for him. I guess in a city as big as Modesto he can find one time customers enough to stay open. Eventually it has to kill his business.

Gary Edwards berated me in his store when I brought my broken machine back to him that he had just serviced that same day. I came home very shook up about it as I have NEVER been treated this way IN MY LIFE in any store! I spoke to my husband about his abusive behavior towards me. My daughter overheard me and ended up going on line (without my knowledge) to respond to a review written by Gary Edwards. She left a comment to one of his LYING reviews that he left about her mother. The review is 2 reviews below and in it, he PRETENDS to be a customer in the store that is witnessing another customer berate the ""wonderful"" owner. \n\nGary Edwards wrote my daughter back...you gotta read this! GARY EDWARDS IS A CROOKED THIEF WITH HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, CURSING ISSUES AND A VIOLENT TEMPER! You take your machine into Gary Edward's web thinking that you will get excellent customer service due to his many years of experience, clean store and bright white teeth and smile but believe me that mouth of his will do you no favors! He has been viciously attacking the Modesto Sewing World for years. Horrible place!!! ?I wish I would have done my research beforehand. ?The comments on the other review sites are negative AND it has a lot of complaints listed at the Better Business Bureau. After I told all of my clients and friends what I experienced at Modesto Vacuum and Sewing Center they all said ""well, yeah, you haven't heard""?!? ?Apparently Gary, the owner, is known for being a scammer and a crook and that he has a nasty attitude. When I walked in he was yelling at his wife to mind her own business and concentrate on the sewing lesson she was giving. ?I should have walked away right there. ?If you can treat your wife like garbage then most likely, you treat everyone that way. ?Anybody with a shred of common business sense in an industry dealing with mainly women as customers would know that as women, customer service and a gentle attitude go along way. ?Furthermore, I should have been upset with the fact that we paid him to fix our vacuum and he took our money and didn't fixed it BUT I understand that people make mistakes. ?I was more upset with his disrespect and rudeness. ?He did eventually fix our vacuum but I had to endure his screaming and temper tantrum before he finally agreed to fix it. ?He yelled at me for the mistake HE made and was over-the-top UNPROFESSIONAL! ?I felt so bad for his wife Colleen until my husband went back to pick up our vacuum and Colleen was equally as rude. ?The only nice person there was their sales associate. ?They should sell the business to her. ?It would probably get better reviews if they let her handle things. ?These people are unhappy and they will take it out on you! ?We have another vacuum and sewing machine that need service but we won't be taking it back there. ?I hope you're looking at this review BEFORE you consider taking your sewing machine or vacuum to get repaired so you can stay away from Modesto Vacuum and Sewing Center.

My wife and I took her Phaff in for repairs planning on spending at least $100 minimum. From the moment we walked through the doors Gary Edwards was a complete professional. My wife explained what her machine was doing and Gary took it in the back right away to have a look. Within 10 minutes her machine was fixed and running perfectly at NO CHARGE. Gary took the time to explain what had happened and what he did to fix it, again AT NO CHARGE. Gary is very knowledgeable about his business, and not to mention Ham radio and guitar. Don?t believe any of those crappy reviews, go see for yourself. Don?t take the word of angry competitors. We were in the shop for about 30 minutes and NOT ONE person burst into tears or insulted in any way, shape or form. \n\n

The BBB gives this place a F rating for a reason. He has 10 complaints filed against him on the BBB website. Funny that most of the reviews say the same thing and it was my exact experience - the owner is a rude, lying con artist. Thankfully, he didn't get any of my money and I will NEVER walk back in there. The owner gives me the creeps - I could tell what a jerk he was from the second he spoke. I normally don't take the time to write a review but people deserve to be warned about this crook.\r\n\r\nThe 1st time I went in, he was super nice (too ""salesperson nice"" if you know what I mean) BECAUSE I was looking to spend a few grand on a new machine. He even gave me free parts for my then current machine. When I told him my current machine wasn't working - he told me he could work on it, bring it right in. Wow, great customer service philosophy. He wanted $4700 for exact same machine I bought elsewhere for less than half that. He's not asking suggested retail - BIG TIME jacked up prices. So when I brought new machine in to be worked on month later I was suddenly informed he doesn't even work on them (because I didn't buy it from them basically but of course he didn't say that). When I asked why couldn't he work on it since how he told me he could previously, he raised his voice and got VERY ugly with me. My 3 year old twins were both crying before it was over with. Completely uncalled for. When I went in 2nd time, I walked in carrying my machine and he took one look at me and said, ""You don't sew do you?"" EXCUSE ME? I'm standing there holding a sewing machine jack AZ@#@#!?!?! I sew for a living. After dealing with him several times and having several ""issues"" with him - I contacted Brother directly and found out the guy lied to me on several occasions.\r\n\r\nI drove to Sac instead when I needed my embroidery machine worked on and when I mentioned the Modesto store, they rolled their eyes and had a few ugly things to say - apparently they get a lot of his customers after he screws up their machines or they've had enough of his severe attitude problem. I contacted Brother directly and was told the jerk flat out lied to me and that there is a reason they will not allow him to be a certified warranty center.\r\n\r\nIt's worth the drive to Sac - save yourself, your money, and your machines.

The BBB gives this place a F rating for a reason. He has 10 complaints filed against him on the BBB website. Funny that most of the reviews say the same thing and it was my exact experience - the owner is a rude, lying con artist. Thankfully, he didn't get any of my money and I will NEVER walk back in there. The owner gives me the creeps - I could tell what a jerk he was from the second he spoke. I take my machines to Modesto Vacuum and Sewing Center always. I've taken them to the other guy before and was not at all pleased with the results. There hasn't been one time that I have taken my vacuum or sewing machine into Gary that he couldn't fix. (Sometimes while I was still there). I think that loving life is just fixating on the one experience she had there. I don't know, I think she should really start loving life and quit being so obsessed with Gary. There hasn't been one time that I have taken my vacuum or sewing machine into Gary that he couldn't fix. (Sometimes while I was still there). i do custom auto upholstery for a living.i took my upholstery machine in to have it serviced.when i got it home and removed the plastic that had been wrapped around it .it was clearly a different machine.same brand but had some serious wear on it,so i flipped it over and checked for my drivers lic.number i had carved into the main body in an inconspicuous place,it wasnt there,some of the parts from my machine had been transferred to this one but since it was an older model they didnt fit right..i was devistated .every job i do now is more time consuming and frustraighting because this machine has alot of problems...my upholstery machine means everything and is how i provide for my family this has been one of the worst experiences i have ever had...hard to believe one trip to modesto vac & sewing center can continue to be a never ending nightmare that seems to get worse with every job i try to do,.that machine is my bread and butter,i wish i could go back so i never stepped foot in this store..i miss my very nice ,shiny machine that didnt have a scratch on it and ran like a top....by the way i noticed one of mr.edwards ""good"" reviews was written by his wife colleen...doesnt surprize me

He sold us some used parts for a sewing machine and tricked us that it was the right one for our machine and tricked to us that it was new. Anyone could tell that the product was used, the bag was torn open and very old, the manuel inside had pencil marks of drawing in it and the product was all sratched up and worn out. Gary, (owner) over charged me for some used products. He only displayed some newer products out so that you will think everything is new, but its not.\r\n\r\nI came back the next day for my refund, these parts dont even fit our machine. When we asked for our money back, Gary Edwards had a fit and yelled and yelled cussing at us while my elementary child was frighten to death, hiding between me and my spouse's legs. He will not give a penny back that is how greedy he is.\r\n\r\nBelieve me, and Dont go to such Greedy, Evil place like this. He will close the sale quick and then you find a problem within minutes or 1 day later, come back want help or refund, Gary will Scream and yell at your face and family. This owner Gary, is a crock. He is dishonest. He told me the serger machine i bought from that store was owned by a lady friend/customer of his and that the machine was 2 yrs old. When I took it home, I went online to see all about it. it was 18 yrs. old and barely ran, motor feeling very worn out, so I took the machine right back, within 24 hours. He screamed at me in front of other customers walking around. I have driven there 3 dasys in a row..theres always an excuse why I havent gotten my money back from this imaginary friend he calls Mrs. Birmane...anyways beware, he is not a person id like to get stuck with anywhere or anytime;\r\nthanks;

I went to have my 15 year old vacuum serviced and I walked out with a new vacuum and a new attidude on cleaning day. Since moving to the valley and near all of the almond orchards I need to keep ahead of all that dust and dirt that gets stirred up from the wind, harvesting etc. I had a wonderful experience shopping in the store and discussing which vacuum was best for my needs. Mr. Edwards, Gary was wonderful, professional and understanding. I just love my old vacuum and now I love my new vacuum and I look forward to Mondays as Monday is vacuum day. I would also like to say, my cousin was visiting from Minnesota and she had said she was looking for a sewing machine. Well I brought her to Modesto Vacuum and Sewing and she bought her fancy sewing machine from there as well. She stays in touch with them through email when ever she has any questions or just wants to share pictures of the things she has made on her fancy sewing machine for her friends and family. Their prices are great and their service is wonderful! I would highly recommend Modesto Vacuum and Sewing. Oh by the way that old vacuum that I love, it's still in the family. Our experience with Modesto Sewing and Vacuum was awful in every way. The service/repair that was supposed to be done to our sewing machines was faulty. 1. Neither sewing machine worked when I brought it home. On one the needle was put in backwards and the tension adjusted so tightly that the thread couldn't slide through. The other wouldn't form a complete stitch. 2. Both smelled like car engine cleaning solvent (sewing machine oil does NOT smell like this) 3.
