I'm currently in the 2nd year program and though I could try to think of the best way to describe my experience to you, it still wouldn't wouldn't be enough. The experience you gain from this program is invaluable. It goes with you everywhere; you become your best unique self. Your point of view is finally given it's true justice in an extremely sacred space. I can't tell you if this is the best place for you but as with anything that needs faith, it's up to you to see if it's worth the leap. However, what I can tell you is that the instructors don't take this work lightly and you shouldn't expect ANYONE to in this business to as did Sanford Meisner over 75 years ago in which he said, "I wish the stage were as narrow as the wire of a tightrope dancer, so that no incompetent would dare step upon it." This place is inspirational and encouraging, just bring your A-Game. Good luck fellow reader :)
Professionally and personally this program will help you become more authentic not just in your work but who you are as a person. And that is in fact what makes you unique from so many others in this town. Knowing who you are, what your point of view is, and what you bring to the table that no one else does. It's a tough program but well worth it and all the instructors know what they're talking about. This studio is rare in that all the instructors have credible education and experience, and most importantly aren't just looking for a paycheck but eager to help you improve, grow, and act. But it is a challenge, not for the faint of heart; be sure you are committed to this program before signing up but if you do you will get your money's worth and certainly won't be disappointed in what you gain as an artist.
I love this place! It is a safe place for actors to explore and allow their imaginations to soar. EMAS teaches you the art of doing, not acting. Elizabeth and her staff are phenomenal. You will never be told what you want to hear, only what you need to hear to help your growth. What I love most about this place is that EMAS is a place of integrity!
I just finished taking a scene study class at the EMAS studio and am getting ready to start back up next week. I love this acting studio! Elizabeth has amazing insight and I always feel well guided when it comes to character choices and the direction the scene needs to move in. We also work on interesting material in the class and not the same bland stock scenes you get at some of the other studios. If you want to really dig deep in character development and work on inspiring material this is the place to go.
Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio is a fantastic place to train. I've now completed the first year of the Meisner program and looking forward to 2nd year getting started in September of this year.
I want to focus this review on Jordana Oberman who I was fortunate enough to have as an instructor, along with Elizabeth, for first year Meisner. Jordana is phenomenal. She is insightful, very direct, encouraging, and will always challenge her students to strive for their full potential. She also has a knack for meeting each student exactly where they are at on any given day. She truly cares about her students and balances out criticism with encouragement seamlessly. I have learned a lot and grown a lot under her tutelage. I'm grateful for having the opportunity to work with her.
Bottom line: If you're serious about developing your craft, EMAS is an exceptional place to do it. I highly recommend it.
The process that you go through in this curriculum is extremely hands on! for a first year actor or a veteran actor this is the classroom for you to branch out and explore the boundaries of your inner self. Teachers like Sandy Egan offer support when needed, but also that soo wanted and needed criticism. The class room is an extremely professional enviorment that allows for growth as well as specifics to detail. The spectrum is hit! Please give this course a try. Sandy is amazing for anyone who is unsure, scared, curious. And i know this is true because I was a beginner too. I owe this course soo much to my developing career. Thank you will never be enough!!!
I am new to LA and feel so lucky to have been recommended to the Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio. Elizabeth and her class is truly inspiring. You get to explore yourself and your choices as an actor in a class that is welcoming and feels like a little family. Elizabeth is extremely insightful in not only in the craft of acting but the business as well. If you are looking for a place to grow and expand your craft, this is it!
This is a top notch acting school. All of the teachers here (Sandy, Jordana, Elizabeth, and Ken) are amazing. Its the only acting studio that I've ever been to that can truly boast equally about the strength of its entire staff. The training is one of the most up front and intense experiences of my life. They are all New York trained teachers that will always tell it to you like it is in order to bring your acting to the next level. I have never been so challenged in my life and enjoyed my experience at the same time. Its a great place for an actor to call home at any level whether you are just beginning or at an advanced level. Do yourself a favor and contact this place.
I have NO experience at acting and was looking for a class that gave me a great foundation to build on and I am so glad I found EMAS. I just completed her Foundations class and it was outstanding. It gave me just what I needed, the instructors were fabulous they are so excited to share the art of acting with new comers like my self. The studio is a safe environment that allows for freedom and exploration. I have all ready signed up for her next class in her beginner series and look forward to making into the Meisner Professional program. EMAS has set the bar very high.
I started at EMAS 3 years ago and I can not express how lucky I feel as an actor to have found a school with such amazing teachers that grasp what an actor really needs to make it in this business. I started out taking the Summer Meisner Intensive class not really sure of what I was going to get out of it and I loved it! Each class was always a learning experience whether it happened personally or by watching a classmate. I loved it so much that I enrolled and completed the 2-year Meisner program and all I can say is, "What an Amazing Ride"!
Thank you Elizabeth!
When I was looking for an acting school, I wanted a place that would not just blow smoke up my ass and tell me what I wanted to hear for a price. I wanted the truth, constructive criticism, and a way to make myself a better actor. Then I came across Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio -- let's just say, be careful what you wish for! I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I started out slow with "The script" class just to get a feel for the place. I enjoyed it so much I immediately signed up for the Meisner Summer Intensive and am now starting the Professional Meisner 2 year program. Let me be clear: This is no cake walk people!
EMAS is for serious actors who want to make a quantum leap in their performance skills. All classes requires hard work because well, that's what it takes to be good at the craft of acting. A significant out of class rehearsal and development effort is needed if you're going to get the most out of the class. Like high performing athletes, and dancers the performance time is really just where you show everyone what you've been doing in practice, so lots of rehearsal time is required. That's just the reality of doing anything well. Between you and me, Elizabeth always knows when you haven't rehearsed- ALWAYS.
Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio is an incredible learning experience for those who are ready to learn how to make your acting more visceral. These classes so far has been a crash-course in life. It is based on truth and it forces you to look at yourself, get to know your own core truths and accept yourself for who you are. It has been a fantastic tool in discovering who I am and becoming confident in myself. I'm making great leaps and bounds in my personal and creative life thanks to the Meisner Method & the EMAS Family.
I moved out to LA from NY 2+ years ago, looking to study acting. I was incredibly blessed to find Elizabeth and her studio. I began with the Meisner Summer intensive and later enrolled in the 2 year Meisner program.
I had no formal acting training, but certainly learned my way. I won't say quickly, because this work takes time and dedication, but I was given the tools to create a craft that I'm now confident in.
EMAS provides the best of both worlds: quality training AND a loving, supportive environment. That's not to say it's peachy in ever class--I've spent many a class crying because I was frustrated or felt that too much was being asked of me--but in the end it was all worth it.
FYI: You work in EVERY class AND parking is NOT an issue!??
WOW!! What can I say about Elizabeth that will let you know that this is THE place for you to really hone your craft....she is incredibly insightful and clear, and will help you get yourself to where you need to be while instilling those tools in you so you can do the same for yourself, ie:auditions, etc. Go get your truth on with Elizabeth Mestnick....she will bring the best out of you for sure.
I have taken a few classes at other places and EMAS is definitely, hands down, without a doubt, by FAR the best. There's no B.S. here. You can really tell a difference between professional, talented teachers who care deeply about the work and teachers who don't know what they're doing who just want your money.
This place is truly the best.
Elizabeth's class is a great place for studied actors to get back to the basics and do some real scene and character work which, let's face it, isn't the majority of the work that LA actors get to do. She gives great insight into how to use the techniques you've learned, either in her comprehensive Meisner class or in other programs one may have studied, in the most effective and compelling way. She's personable, fun, and there to TEACH YOU...not just hear herself talk. She also uses her many distinguished contacts in the industry to bring in outside professionals to help us in the task of braving the marketing side of the business and expanding our knowledge to apply outside of the classroom which is utterly invaluable.
Everything I've done or will do professionally as an actor I owe to Elizabeth Mestnik and her amazing studio.
From basic technique to scene study to a 2-year Meisner Technique program, EMAS has been my primary source of professional training since moving to LA. Elizabeth and her instructors see the unique qualities and potential in EMAS students and work to get them to tap into their truthful emotional life to bring work vividly to life.
The more demanding the course of study, the deeper Elizabeth encourages you to dig. She cares greatly about your success as an actor. She's not fluff, mind you, and she expects a lot from her students, but the rewards are great.
EMAS is the first place I recommend to anyone looking for training. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR MEISNER TECHNIQUE TRAINING.
EMAS also offers seasonal courses in Business of Acting, Commercial Acting, Comedy Technique, Voiceover and other topics of interest by visiting instructors.
I cannot say enough great things about the Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio, Elizabeth herself, and all of the teachers there. I have taken classes at three other studios in LA, each of which was disappointing (I only got up on stage once every three weeks in one of them - what's the point?!) At EMAS, I get to work in every class, and Elizabeth has an uncanny ability to bring out the best in me and everyone else. She insists on the truth in every moment, but she does it in a nurturing way, never needing to berate or embarrass anyone publicly. My growth as an actor and my confidence at auditions is off the charts! I have booked several jobs and am a working actor and LOVING IT! If you are looking for a place to study, you have to check out EMAS!
I have studied at the Elizabeth Mestnik Acting studio for over 4 years, and could not be happier with the training I've received. In every class, all actors work and the one on one attention is what really made me fall in love with the studio. The teachers here care about developing every actors craft not just packing students into classes, as some other schools do. I am a confident actor because of EMAS and the craft I have developed there is more than I could have ever dreamed of. It's not just a school its a family, with tons of support to help every actor in any stage of their career. Going to Elizabeth's studio was the best decision I've made!
Moving from NYC I was so lucky to find a home at the Elizabeth Mestnik Training Program. I have my Master's from NYU Tisch and was desperate to find the highest quality training for professional actors. I found it at EMAS!! I was so impressed with the work that I even did the 2 year Meisner Training program for professionals to add to my Master's work from NYU! It is a brilliant school.
I've audited some other "meisner" classes in Los Angeles, but they didn't compare to Elizabeth's delivery of Sandy Meisner's technique. I've learned at Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio how to use the infamous repetitions in order to propel the truthfulness of a character's lived emotions through actual doing. A lot of people have misconceptions about the meisner technique - probably because there are a lot of studios that don't know how to utilize it...but it's interesting how in the second year of the meisner program, we hardly did any repetitions. We probably didn't need to because we had the "pinch and ouch" running through our veins by 2nd year. :o) BEST THING ABOUT ELIZABETH: The honest, straightforward, and constructive direction. You won't get the false ego-boosting, sugar-coated compliments on your mediocre work, but when she says your work was good...you know you did gooood. :o) Her studio offers a supportive but not smothering curriculum that prepares you for the art and craft (and business) of acting.
I am so glad that I found The Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio (EMAS). After taking classes at other studios, it became clear very quickly that this was the place I needed to be if I wanted to be a professional actor. The instructors are passionate, direct, honest and really look at each student as an individual. The Technique Series was a great introduction, but the Meisner Technique program really took my acting to the next level. It's 9-months long, but worth every minute. They also have wonderful workshops with top Industry Professionals. You won't be sorry
