I had a private party for my birthday. It was fabulous. Terry & the staff were awesome. My guests loved it. The food was wonderful. Terry set the food up in the bar & the wait staff hand passed it as well. The Rumble Kings played and Terry was so accomadating to them. You can't ask for better service, prices, and delicious food than at Ruth Ellen's.

Since Ruth Ellen's opened several months ago, my husband, son and I have visited the place at least once a week. It's in an old house in Allen...with tablecloths and silverware...feels just like you're going to a friend's house for dinner.

Every time, we've gotten above average service and food. If you like more "homemade" type fare, then this is the place for you! Even things that I normally avoid at restaurants - things you assume are not fresh and homemade - are very much so at this place.

If you're a fried green tomatoes fan, you'll love their take on it. My husband swears by the catfish - he's not even a catfish fan but he loves the way they make it! Every bowl of soup I've had there is homemade and delicious. Their baked potato soup is to die for...My favorite entree is the pan-fried steak. Always tender and served with homemade smashed potatoes and fresh green beans...for $8! Even though we've often too full for dessert, their desserts are wonderful...the pecan cobbler and banana pudding are their two staples (although the owner recently let us try a butter croissant bread pudding he was trying out with rum whipped cream and it was the best bread pudding EVER!). We also love that they are so accommodating.

They have a wonderful kids' menu and as my son puts it, the fried shrimp are the "grown-up" version (not the frozen reheated ones you find on most kids' menus). My son is in love with their salmon and this has be his most requested place to eat.

It is amazing to find such great food and service at such a wonderful price in this age...
