My beautiful pup got hit by a car. The driver who hit him brought me to this hospital where they took blood, did some blood pressure checks and took x-rays of his body instead of the affected area saying that what I needed to worry about

As another has said they will take you for all you're worth with the facade of procedures being absolutely necessary. They use guilt to overcharge you. Will never be taking my dogs back.

AM/PM treated us fairly, and the dog appropriately. He is well again. It is always bad when your dog is ill, but it's worse when it is outside normal business hours. What will happen at the vet? Costs? Causes? Hard decisions? We have a normally very healthy exceptionally large golden retriever who had diarrhea and vomiting. He had to stay for a few days to get his system stable. We felt the charges were very reasonable. They kept us informed of his response to the treatment. We were concerned about the costs, and it isn't all about money. It is also about the severity of the illness or injury and the quality of life of our pet. We think AM/PM did a very good job working out our pet's health crisis with us.

We use this clinic with some frequency and they have been great when we really needed them. Usually it??s on weekends or even holidays when our dogs get hurt or sick. These folks work nights, weekends and holidays so that people have somewhere to go when their pets get sick. The folks at AM / PM Animal Hospital have always been very professional and reasonable with their fees. In fact they are considerably less expensive than our local vet.

I must say that I am really incensed by Mr. "Willie P."'s review below. It is a terribly unfair review of a very good clinic.

While, it is possible, he might have had intentions of eventually paying for the services (assuming his dog lived). In most cases at Vet offices (also doctors, dentist), the reality is that when people say "I'll pay you later" they never do. In fact, in a large percentage of these encounters, it is actually a con, with the person seeking services really not having any intention of ever paying. It is unknown whether Willie actually intended to ever be responsible for the cost of providing care for his animal. The bottom line: the odds of someone presenting to a Vet office (or a doctor office) like Willie of ever paying his bill is very close to zero.

The good people that run this clinic must work weekends, holidays, and nights. They must pay for salaries, supplies, medications, the building, taxes, etc. etc. It is woefully unfair for Willie to lambast them for his own irresponsibility in not being able to care for his own pet.

It is hard to know whether Willie is just so immature as to not recognize that his own lack of responsibility is at fault, or is he just pissed off that his scam didn't work and feeling bad knowing that he is incapable of taking care of his own animal?

It cost a lot of money to deliver vet care. If you can't afford it, just don't have pets or put your animal down if you can't afford to take care of it when it is in pain.

Take Responsibility for Yourself and Your Pets ! The World Does Not Own You Free Vet Services, a Job that Pays You More than Your Worth or Anything Else !!

I brought my two year old Maine Coon cat to AM PM hospital explaining she'd been experiencing symptoms that had been treated by a prior vet as a respiratory infection. As a nurse I had doubts her symptoms were of that nature and it appeared to me the cat was choking. I didn't know if it was a piece of grass stuck in her throat, a polyp...or perhaps a tumor. Dr. Mulligan was the vet we saw. He was very condenscending and arrogant and insisted that she indeed had a respiratory infection and was 'too young' to have a tumor. (Initially he thought she was ten years old!). I explained she choked when she ate and every time I tried to give her medicine orally the same thing happened. His response was " she just doesn't like the taste of the medicine. Sometimes you just have to do something they don't like". I stated, "then you give it to her and see what I mean". The vet tech came in and used a pill pusher to get (yet another) antibiotic down her throat and she turned blue and started to choke. This still did not convince him and he remained nasty and mean about 'doing something I don't want to do'. After thirty two years in the nursing field that is the last problem I have with providing necessary medical care. She turned out to have a squamous cell tumor in the palate of her mouth and died some weeks later. I will never forgive his arrogance and insistence and hope people will read this and stay away from this place!!!

**WARNING!! This place is a total SCAM. If there was a rating of ZERO, I would have given it. My six year old, Bichon, Austen was violently ill last year. He had been throwing up for a day and a half. I made an urgent appointment with a regular vet who gave him an IV and gave me meds to take home. This did not quell the vomiting. When Austen began throwing up blood, I took him straight away to AMPM. They ran blood tests and x-rays. When they came back with the x-ray and showed me that there was nothing to be seen on it, "But he could have eaten cloth which would obstruct his bowels and would not show up on this x-ray, so we need to go in and do exploratory surgery." I panicked but agreed. I was in a sticky situation; should I question the animal doctors that knew what they are talking about (or should have because they went to school and trained for it) and take him home only to get worse and possibly die, or did I listen to the doctors that knew (or should have known) what they were talking about and do everything I ... I went with the latter and signed up for their in-house "credit" as I was told I needed to do to ensure that the vet bill would be paid BEFORE they proceeded and they took him back. AFTER I was approved. Good thing I had a co-signor to make sure I wasn't rejected. What would have happened then? We would have been sent home and if Austen was on his death bed, he would not have gotten the help he needed. Three days and surgery later, they STILL came up with no answers, so they asked if they could run a two-hundred dollar blood test that was a human to dog virus that is hardly EVER found in any dog or human...Of course, since you're laying on the guilt and making me feel like if we don't do this test he might die, absolutely, if it's going to save him, tack on another couple of hundred dollars to the bill and another day in the hospital. Why not? Needless to say, that test was negative and just before my credit ran out, they finally released him. I found out at another vets later on, that they most certainly would have been able to see fabric on an x-ray due to the striations and formations that fabric makes in an x-ray. AMPM just wanted to soak me for 2 THOUSAND dollars. Yes, that's right, 2 Grand for NOTHING! My bill was 19 hundred something and all I ended up with was a puppy with internal scar tissue and this huge bill. I'm not even getting into the HORRIBLY rude and snotty customer service I received OR the fact that they killed someone's cat while I was there, yep, put it down because that person didn't have the money to do the surgery they said it "needed to save it's life." It was cheaper to euthanize it than to help the animal and its owner out. WORST vet experience EVER and I have three dogs and have grown up with dogs all my life.

I have been using AM/PM Animal Hospital for 10 years now, after moving here from Boston. Drs. Parker and Smith care for my 15 year old Lakeland (Bella) and 12 year old Golden( Logan).

If you can blame the vets or staff at this clinic for a bad experience, I ask you all to look in the mirror and determine what your attitude was when you walked in the door, why some of you did not take your pet in earlier, and since some of you know how to practice veterinary medicine on your own, why didn't you just Google your pet's issue and treat on your own?

Medicine, whether human or veterinary does include some guessing and some attempts at treatment that may be unsuccessful. Medicine is also expensive, whether human or for our pets. Just a reminder, we are all human, and that includes Medical Doctors as well as Veterinarians. Just like we have to go in for frequent check-ups to stay healthy, so do our pets. Many people have an emergency, bring their pet in to the clinic, and have not been to the vet for years! Vets are not miracle-workers.

I have had stellar service at this clinic, and excellent care for my pets for 10 straight years. Pet care IS expensive, and that is a given. There are low cost options like Animal Trustees of Austin, but if you are in an emergency situation, you need an Emergency clinic that is open, and that is the bottom line. Any of the Emergency clinics are expensive when you are a walk in patient.

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Parker, Dr. Smith, and all of the staff at AM/PM. Thanks everyone for the wonderful care you are giving to Bella and Logan.

MY little bity minature dochson got very sick on thursday morning and I took him to an er vet that night. The vet said he might have eaten something like a toy because he was throwing up with diarhea. They said if he wasn't better by tomorrow night, to bring him back. The next day he was worse so I took him to another er room for a better price. They gave him an IV and said if he wasnt better in two or three days to bring him back. He was becoming more and more lethargic and weak and not eating anything all the time while throwing up and Diahrea. He was dropping a pound a day. The next day saturday he was getting worse and as soon as both my girlfriend and I got off we took him to AMPM EMERGENCY VET on SATURDAY night.

They gave a quick diagnoses and said he needs sugery. He looked soooooo bad and had lose 4 lbs in 3 days. We were thinking he was gonna die at anytime. I told them we would proceed with their plans to run tests over night and give him fluids and also do surgerey if that didnt work. I was like "ok cool, Please just get started because he could obviously die at any minute". The VET yes, I agree, he needs a shot to calm his stomach because according to the XRay it was EMPTY and INFLAMMATed. The vet said I cant get started till we give you an estimate. I said I dont care what it costs just get to work on him.

A fat mexican lady who seemed more like a money hungry shady salesperson than a nurse said we would have to pay at least 700 to get started and up to 2300 to pick him up tomorrow. I said "Ok, money is not an issue because I get paid friday and on Monday I can Loan up to 3,000 from my Work. During this "Estimate" time they had taken my dog back into a cage, and informed me that they were getting started with treatment. My girlfriend camila and I started to relax finally because our dog was finally getting some treatment after 3 vet visits. when we went to pay I realized I didnt have my checkbook(I don't believe it debit cards because they are a scam and seems the main goal is to overdraft you,ha). I had not grabbed my checkbook because we were in such a hurry when our doggy starting diarheaing BLOOD. My girlfriend had 100 on her debit card and I had 60 bucks in my pants. I said can we give you this 160 and bring the rest tomorrow when we pick him up. Plus it was already 3 am by this point.

The fat mean lady said we cant even start the treatment until we recieve 778.62 and we will not TAKE YOUR CHECK!. I said wait, my dog has been back there for an hour and ya'll haven't started? and they said Yes, we cant start until u pay 778! MY girlfriend has a different bank and did not have enough, and since I dont have a debit card I did not have access to my funds and since they would not take my check we were screwed.

They actually did not inform me that they didnt take checks until I had driven all the way to 183 and mopac and back! My dog was shiverring with a terrible fever this whole time in a cage in the back. They literally said here take your dog we cannot keep him here.

They wouldn't SEE MY DOG!!!!!! I told them"THIS IS INHUMANE AND HOW DO YA'll SLEEP at NIGHT". They just said sorry, that is our policy and there is no manager here that we can talk to.

I want everybody here in AUSTIN TO KNOW THAT I TOOK MY DOG HOME AT 5:00am and we found him DEAD HIDDEN IN MY CLOSET @11:00am. He had crawled his way deep into the closet soon after we got home and DIED because AMPM Would not see him!!!

NEVER GOO to AMPM. They killed my DOG and am trying to see what KIND of LAWSUIT I CAN FILE on this INHUMANE MONEY HUNGRY VET!!!! I HAAATTTEEEE THEMM!!!! BECAUSE THEY WOULDN"T TREAT MY DOG,
HE IS DEAD NOWWW!!!!!! AAAHHHHHHH

I took my dog in because he had some odd-looking black skin thing on the top of his head. I was afraid it was mange. It was a Saturday. The vet, who spent 3 minutes with my dog, was clueless so, naturally, suggested all sorts of blood tests, urine test, even poop test -- all of which was done in the office. $246 later, they were just as clueless and also tried to sell me a variety of products. I went home, went online, bought some anti-fungal tea tree oil for $3.95, put it on his head and the skin was back to normal in 2 days. This clinic is run by charlatans.

My favorite little Chihuahua, Hank, became suddenly ill after-hours and I rushed him here. From the moment I walked in, I felt a sense of warm caring from Marjorie [receptionist], Dr Renner. Hank temporarily recovered but was soon ill again [congestive heart failure]. I took him back and consulted with them and decided to put him down [he was 15 years old]. I felt kind support from the staff. I also received a condolence letter.
I am so impressed with this practice and recommend them highly!!!!

My beautiful dog, Princess, gave birth to 5 precious puppies. She had to have a C-Section, to deliver the last two after having delivered 4 the day before. Due to the trauma of the delivery and prolonged pain, Princess was not able to care for her babies. I have been bottle feeding the babies since Thursday night. Things were looking very desperate. I was caught up in a nightmare that as far as I knew was not going to end well. AM PM staff stepped up and became the savior for Princess' puppies. Today, AM PM Staff agreed to take in my 5 newborn puppies for bottle feeding. If you've ever done this, you know that it is very time consuming and hard work. There was absolutely no reason for staff to do this other than pure kindness and care for my 5 Beautiful newborn puppies. If staff had not agreed to take in my puppies for bottle feeding, they may have ended up at Town Lake Animal Shelter since I have to work and was not able to provide the 24 hour care they would need for 5 weeks. Bless AM PM Animal Hospital for the loving care that they gave to my Princess and now the incredible service they are providing for the puppies. Thank you, Thank you.

So- we had a really bad experience at the AM/ PM and will never go back. I thought Dr Parker was very nice when we saw her- but a night time emergency got us another vet. It was recommended that we put our animal to sleep- we whisked him up and took him to another vet, who gave him an antibiotic. 12 hours later he was fine. Sorry- hate to be unforgiving, but no one should go through this.

Some of the these negative reviews should, perhaps, step back and take a look at their own situations rather than painting with such a broad brush. I have had lots of dealings with this hospital and they know what they are doing. If it feels excessive to you, perhaps it is. My mom was a vet and retired early because she couldn't deal with the stress of wanting to help everything and not being able to because she was, after all, in a business. What veterinarians do is not free, or easy. If you want the best care, be prepared to pay for it. Anyone can just throw medications around.

Pros: Competent

Cons: Pricey (But worth it)

My dog had a sore throat. I brought him to AM/PM, who was, at the time, our vet, and told them I thought he had a sore throat. They proceeded to run literally $2,000.00 worth of tests, only to discover he had a sore throat.

In the meantime, the vet we dealt with made me feel like a terrible person AND terribly frightened. He then used my vulnerability to essentially rob me. He said something along the lines of, "If you don't get these tests, your dog will die."

Ha! My dog had a sore throat and needed antibiotics, just as I had told them when we arrived. I have never been so manipulated or violated by another vet in my entire life.

Although the facilities are nice and they are open 24 hours, you pay for it. I am sure the thousands we were charged that day in unnecessary testing went towards the fancy equipment that they have in their facility that most vets do not.

I would never recommend this veterinarian's office to anyone that is not living off of a trust fund or earning less than a six-figure income. In fact, even if you're loaded, I would stay away from this business altogether.

The folks at AM PM Animal Hospital are so attentive and friendly! Brought my Lab in for an emergency at 3 a.m. on Sunday when he was throwing up all over the place. They saw us right away and give him a shot to clear up the infection. Thanks a bunch.

My cat had accidentally swallowed some flea and tick medicine that I bought over the counter. He went into a full seizure and lost all control of his nervous system, heart was racing a million miles a minute and was spitting up. I rushed him to AM/PM Animal Hospital and they quoted me over 1000.00 at a minimum to provide treatment. I was cry and only could afford 250.00 at the time. They then suggested putting him to sleep! I couldn't believe they said that and I asked if there were any other options. They said to call a friend or family to help. During this time, my cat is suffering. I asked if they could do anything to get him ok until the morning where I could take him to a vet and they said for 200.00+ they could give him a couple things, but couldn't guarantee that he would survive and had me sign a form stating I refused the full treatment. I was crying and they had no empathy for my situation. I felt like a number and it was the worst experience I've ever had. It seems that since they are a animal hospital, they would have a little more compassion and work with my budget, but it wasn't an option. They made me feel like I didn't care enough about my cat since I didn't want to spend over 1000.00. I run a pet sitting service in Austin and I believe in treating pets just like you would children - they make up a huge part of our lives and bring tons of happiness into our world. If one of my clients needs me to watch their pets and cannot afford to pay me, I let them pay when they are able. I would never refuse caring for their pets.

I took Sugar home from AM/PM and he was shaking all night. Whatever they did, didn't help him at all. I took him to my vet the next morning and Dr Spellman, on North Lamar, did a miracle on him. Within 15 minutes, I could see Sugar calming down. Sugar is doing wonderful today and it's because of Dr. Spellman and his staff.

Pros: 24 hours

Cons: Expensive, non-caring

This is without a doubt the worst clinic we have ever used. You seldom see the same doctor, even if you ask for them and no one knows you or your pet. They always over prescribe non-necessary services making you feel like you aren't taking care of your pet if you don't let them do them. Their rates for everything are excessive. We have repeatedly asked for a 'plan' of care for helping our elderly pet who is obviously deteriorating and are told to just bring him in for routine exams and routine expensive tests that they require "just in case they have to do surgery". When we were told the dog needed as special diet that only they sell, I asked the ingredient rations so I can cook the same thing since I do make a lot of the pet's food. The vet looked at me in disbelief and said that she didn't even cook for her own children! So the option was to spend an excessive amount of money on canned food or feel guilty for not being a 'good pet parent'. If you have a truly ill animal, this is the last place you want to go, they will over-charge you and there is no compassionate care for the pet nor for the owners.

Our 15 yr old cocker was struck by a car this past Sunday & suffered catastrophic injuries. We called our regular vet (the one at a large chain pet store where we had been patients for 7 years). We were told they were "too busy" to see her. After a frantic search with our beloved pet bleeding in the street, AM/PM Animal Hospital immediately accepted us. From the moment we arrived until we said our goodbyes as they gave Julie her final nap, the entire staff was unbelievedly kind, compassionate and professional. They sent us a especially kind sympathy note several days later to reassure us that we did the most merciful thing for our beloved pet.
We are no longer taking our dogs, including our new rescue cocker, to our old vet @ "that" chain store. We will be here!

Today I called because my cat was suffering and she needed to be put down A.S.A.P. and they made me make an appointment 5 hours out. They are an emergency clinic? When I called back and told them that I wanted to bring her in, they were not sympathetic at all. They asked me if they ever treated her before? I've been taking my animals there for the last coulple of years and spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars there and nothing! They gave me a number to another clinic.
When I went to the other clinic they acted immediatly due to her condition and told me she could not have suffered for another 5 hours. They were more accomodating there than Am/PM has ever been.
I've been going to Am/Pm out of convenience for the past couple of years. I never really loved going there but I kept giving them chances. I've always felt that they nickel and dimed me and if I couldn't afford something I always felt crappy. Alternative solutions were never recommended.
I will never go here ever again! Everyone I know will be alerted about how crappy I was treated today! They will lose lots of business!!

Thank goodness I live just down the street from AM/PM because my dog Kahlua has been there many times. The staff is always friendly and helpful and though they are expensive, its worth the piece of mind to be able to take my dog at any time of the day or night instead of hoping she gets better overnight to go to her normal vet. The staff is great at keeping me updated when she has to stay overnight and always treats my dog as if she's their own.

AM/PM hospital told me they would do a diagnostic to find what might be wrong with my dog Oneder for $81.00. I waited for over an hour to have the "doctor" come in for less than five minutes and tell me they would have to do diagnostics which would cost me $320.00 more. I spent $81.00 for a supposed diagnostic, and nothing was confirmed. I have never felt so violated, and when I confronted the clerks they just shrugged their shoulders and swiped my card. Stay with someone you know, Riverside Veterinary Clinic has never taken advantage of me in 14 years. The only reason I went to AM/PM is because RVC was closed. It is very unfortunate that we have businesses like the AM/PM Hospital. I will make sure everyone I know knows this story!

I felt that the staff was very polite and super helpful. I do think they were very expensive. I think they knew I was freaking out and took full advantage of that fact. I think they used vet jargon to confuse me and have me agree to order cultures and tests that were unnecessary. I also felt as if the price for the meds I received was astronomical. It cost me $227.86 for antibiotics and pain meds for a two week period. I don't know about any of you, but I've never paid that much for my pet meds EVER. I asked a few friends, one of which has 7 dogs and a cat. They all agreed that it was very over-priced. As I said, they were very nice and one of the only vets that acceptd walk-ins, but I paid for it dearly. If you have the income to spend, They're fantastic!

I have lived in Austin for 9 years and looked for a great vet for a while. Dr. Parker has been caring for my 15 year old Lakeland Terrier and 12 year old Golden Retriever for about 7 years. I am so grateful to Dr. Parker and her staff for all of the wonderful care and service they have provided me with. Dr. Parker is one of the most caring and compaissionate veternarians I have seen, and my girls do not mind going to see her.
My Lakeland has been through a lot the last couple of years, and Dr. Parker only requests tests that she feels are necessary. Dr. Parker and her staff listen to my concerns and understand that I want the best care, but that I also have a budget.

One of my best friends in Austin is an emergency veternarian North of the city, and I have come to understand quite a bit about the industry, as she owns her own clinic. It is very expensive to operate a vet clinic, and I completely understand the charges that Dr. Parker requires for her services. There may be other "cheaper" clinics, but that does not mean that they are better. There are also other clinics that are more expensive than AM/PM, and that does not necessarily mean better service as well.

I judge a veternarian and his/her staff on a few criteria: 1) Does the vet or tech listen to my concerns? 2) Are the tests explained to me, and the reasoning for them? 3) Do my dogs mind going there? 4) Is it clean? 5) Is the staff courteous and respectful? 6) Do my dogs get better?

I have been to many vets across the country, and there has not been one vet that will get down on the floor with my girls and talk to them other than Dr. Parker. Does this clinic pass my criteria? Yes, absolutely Yes!
When Dr. Parker is not available, we also see Dr. Smith, and she is just as wonderful.

Bravo to you AM/PM Animal Hospital Veternarians ans entire staff!
Love, Bella and Logan

Not a positive experience. Told me my cat needed expensive treatments that a 2nd opinion said she did not. Estimated over $850 and $200 in meds. Took her else where and they said the meds were causing tissue to die and stop them. Not happy with Dr. Parker at all.

My dog had an allergic reaction to the heartworm treatment and had to be hospitalized at AM/PM. Dr. Parker and her staff were very helpful, caring, and informative. They explained my options to me but never made me feel pressured to do one thing or another. They stressed the urgency of the situation but ultimiately everything was my decision. I chose to keep my dog there and spend the money to nurse her back to health. She is doing great now and her heartworms are gone. Dr. Parker and her staff were great and I appreciate all the help and support they gave me during that difficult time. I will continue to bring my dog there and will refer everyone I know to them.

I took my cat to AM/PM Animal Hospital three times for emergency care and was always very satisfied with the care he received. The vets and staff were attentive and answered all my questions. My father is a veterinarian (owns his own hospital out of state), so I am very familiar with vet hospitals, and I found AM/PM to be clean and well run. I originally went there for an emergency, but continued going there to buy cat food and returned for 2 subsequent emergencies. When my cat hurt his leg, the vet even used her camera phone to take a picture of the x-ray and send it to my dad so he could see it! She spoke with him on the phone as well. Later, Dr. Parker was wonderful when my cat died, as was her office manager (helped with arranging for my cat's cremation). The fact that they are 24-hour is great. You do pay for the service, however. But in the event of an emergency, the service is the most important thing. Most emergency clinics' prices are higher than non-emergency clinics'.

I had been shopping around for a vet since I was unhappy with my current vet. After several bad experiances (one that actually left me in tears) I found AM/PM. One of my dogs had been hurt and before I knew about AM/PM I went to an emergency vet. I was referred to AM/PM for the follow up visit by someone who uses them. They were absolutely fabulous. The staff was attentive and intelligent. You could tell they enjoyed their job and loved the animals. And since they are open 24 hours, I got a last minute appointment at 9:30pm! So no matter what time of day is good for you, they will have an appointment time for you! The apologized several times because an emergency had walked in right before us and the vet (not the staff, there was always a staff member available) was 10 minutes late! If you've been to other vets you know this is amazing! I read that their prices were higher than other places and that may be true of some, but I try to find a valuable doctor to take care of my animals and they were no more expensive, and even cheaper than some of the other vets I've seen. All around fabulous experiance!!!

o be brief - i took my dog for an emergency last summer, rude staff!!!!!!!, never even met the doctor, and when i came back to pick up my pet they charged me for stuff she really didnt need, and they didnt even bother to call and ask if it was ok or in my budget to do these extra things. The recepionist even blew me off over a chihuahua that needed her ears cleaned out. They are constantly hiring new staff...hummmmm there must be a reason behind that! Needless to say my bill came out to about $800...for what you ask....BENADRYL!!!!! So now I go to South Lamar Animal Hospital (across the street). Change vets if you think you want to come here!

Needless to say my bill came out to about $800...for what you ask....BENADRYL!!!!! So now I go to South Lamar Animal Hospital (across the street). Change vets if you think you want to come here!

Pros: NONE!

Cons: Staff, vet?, waiting time! MONEY!!!!! Comunication!!!

My family first started going to AMPM 8 years ago when our 14-year-old cat was diagnosed with kidney failure. They were so wonderful and caring that we decided to make them our regular vet. Over the past 8 years (with the exception of one short-lived night-time vet), they've always amazed us and have always provided excellent service. Dr. Parker is a wonderful, loving person who really knows how to make a frightened animal feel at ease. My nervous, accident-prone dog never fails to give her kisses while being examined. They're professional, they care, they do great work, and they're open all the time. Yes, they're expensive, but they're completely worth it.

Pros: Availability, those clips under the counter for dog leashes

Cons: The price (although they're worth it)

The vets and technicians that work here are great. They are very caring, friendly, and attentive. They might have higher prices, but keep in mind the critical situations that they deal with being open 24 hours a day(who cares about the costs anyway? your pet is your family..) My Boston Terrier suffered severe smoke inhalation and ulcerated corneas and they saved his life. They may be a younger staff, but don't let that fool you. Experience sometimes comes with the ability to feel empathy, or sympathy, towards an animal that you are caring for. They were great and have become my regular vet clinic.

The AM/PM pet hospital saved my puppy's life. My husband I have a puppy that just survived Parvo thanks to these people. They treated him so amazing. They kept us constantly updated on how our dog was doing (he had to be hospitalized for a week). These people went above and beyond the call of duty. I definitely have chosen them as my permanent vet and would highly recommend them to anyone. Dr. Parker was so sweet and truly seems to love her job!

Cons: Nothing...I would have loved not to pay as much...but I think that came with the territory.

I've taken my dog to AM/PM a number of times for emergency care. First, when a dog fight led to $300 worth of xrays/stitches, then a few years later when a run-in with a barbed-wire fence (we think) required stitches late on a Friday night.
I was a complete emotional wreck the first time I took her there and everyone was understanding and kind. The vet tech and vet were so gentle that Lillie, who has had a very bad experience at another vet (another stitching session that ended with the vet attempting to cut dead skin w/o the local anesthsia working), so I was paranoid that the vet care for her and ease her fears. Lillie is understandably paranoid of vet offices.
True, the care was expensive, but it's hard to measure it against regular visits since ours were always emergencies that required overnight stays.

We (my cats and I) were one of the first patients after Dr. Karen McReynolds opened in 1994. Dr. Parker joined some time later and I was thrilled to meet her. My kids now take their pets to her and we live all over Austin. She and most of the staff have been incredibly compassionate throughout the years, especially when I lost my 15 year old sweetie a couple of years ago. The advice has always been solid, practical and loving. I chose to use an emergency clinic for routine care because if an emergency came up, the records were already there. My babies have been blessed with good health and Dr. Parker has helped me maintain them and I am very grateful for her smile when we make our annual pilgrimmage. Thanks guys!!

Pros: Comprehensive care, Easy appts, She remembers us!

I initially took my dog to Dr. Parker for an emergency. The staff was very nice and the price for her surgery was reasonable. We've been going there ever since, several years. Since then, we've had additional serious health problems with my dog. During this time, the staff has been understanding and caring. Dr. Parker is always willing to talk with me at length and explain the tests and treatment. She's great with my dog is isn't typically friendly with stangers. It's been a bit expensive but not more so than any other vets. I have not had any problems seeing the vet quickly for a scheduled appointment. The only vet we really like is Dr. Parker. There was one other vet who was a bit abrupt but i can't recall her name. We haven't seen any of the other vets. I couldn't ask for a better vet!

Pros: Caring staff, Dr. Parker, Flexible Hours

Cons: Cost

My husband and I have been taking our cats to AM/PM since we moved to Austin about 1.5 years ago. I chose AM/PM for its flexible hours, but I have been disappointed time and again by their lack of puntuality. We arrive a few minutes early for each appointment, yet we always have to wait at least an additional 30-45 minutes after our appt. time before being seen by the doctor! Neither the vet tech nor the doctor have EVER attended us on time! We finally got fed up and switched to anther vet.

When I took my dog in to AM PM to be evaulated for a breathing problem, I didn't expect her to be diagnosed with terminal cancer on that same visit. This was especially difficult for me because my father had also recently been diagnosed with cancer. The vet was so patient with me, let me have a long cry with my dog alone, then came back and explained exactly what could be done for her. When I left, my bill was only $75 dollars, the cost of an exam and some medications. It seemed low to me at the time but I didn't realize until I got home that the vet had waived all x-ray and blood test fees, which would have cost an additional $400. I have nothing but praise for these wonderful people.

We've been using AMPM exclusively since 1997. When our aging cat had kidney failure, they showed us how to give her subcutaneous fluids and gave us a huge break on the cost of supplies for the whole time she was with us. When she became too sick to continue, Dr. Parker came to the house to euthanize her. That was 3 years ago, and she never charged us for it. Since then we've gotten 3 other cats, and Dr. P will even offer advice over the phone (no cost) if we call with a minor emergency. Truly caring.

I have used this hospital for all of my pets. I have 2 cats, one with hyperthyroid and 3 dogs, one with chronic ear problems. Though, I have to say, it is not the most inexpensive place, who wants a "chop shop?" I have had nothing but good experiencs at am/pm. They have a caring staff, especially at the front desk... (they are just doing their jobs), and Dr.s that really care and recommend the best treatment for your pet, even if you can't afford it. You must meet Dr.Hernden and Dr. Parker.- they are the BEST!!! Please Go to the hospital if you are in need of medical attention and are willing to persue it... a very professional place. I love it for vaccinations and emergencies!!

My cat went into labor and the kitties we're tied up in a knot w/ the placenta and umbelical chord. At 2am i was freaking out and had no clue what to do, I called them they told us how to handle it at home or to stop by. When we stopped by they were very compassionate and handled the situation promptly. The follow up care was also great!

I've used this hospital for pet emergencies in the past. I don't think that I'd use them if there were another option close by.

They really jack up the price on meds. When my dog got conjunctivitis (pinkeye,) they charged me $27 for a medication that my regular vet sells for $5. Because they were the only clinic open over the long weekend, and because my dog was so uncomfortable, I coughed it up. Grrr!

Lackluster staff, and young, inexperienced vets.
