.

I've driven by the Juke Box Grille many times, not knowing what it was, and not really caring. The building is small, the brick face is not really beat up, but not new either, and the question of where to park made it seem very "greasy spoon". When David asked me to meet him there for a late breakfast, I thought, "Why not? If it's not any good, I can just not go back."
Imagine my surprise at the clean, modern, yet homey feel of a late 1950's diner, complete with smiling waitress and the owner himself supervising the kitchen in full view. There was even a couple of couches for those wanting just to sit back, enjoy the coffee, and "people watch," or do some homework or business.
Serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner all day long, the menu is carefully chosen to satisfy most anyone, and when I wanted to make a small change to the listed menu, (I got the 1 egg, meat, hash browns and pancakes, when the menu said "toast") I simply got a smile and "No Problem!"
Breakfast was exactly as I ordered it: egg over easy, hash browns crispy but not burnt, and links instead of sausage patties. The pancakes were just what I wanted, too: light and fluffy, with good flavor and a quality syrup.
I was there long enough to need to visit the loo, and was happy to find a clean, stocked and pleasant smelling tiled room. It even had a mirror, which is moderately rare in a college town, and, yes, I looked good!
Moral of the story: Don't judge a book by it's cover! When driving down Grand River in East Lansing in need of tasty, fast, but not too greasy nourishment, look for the 5' tall statue (looking remarkably like Chef Boy-r-dee) across from Georgio's Gormet Pizzaria and McD's. The driveway is on the East side of the building with parking in the rear.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, "No, I do not work for my new favorite restaurant, The Juke Box Grille!"
Bon Appetite!
