WARNING: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH FLETCHER JONES LOCATED AT THE VALLEY AUTOMALL IN HENDERSON NEVADA!!!
Here is my Horror Story.
My Wife and I Took our Mercedes Benz ML350 Inspiration Edition (only 900 were produced in the model year), in to FLETCHER JONES with a complaint of a squealing noise coming from the
"steering box" as I persoally told the service advisor DUSTIN DAPKUS on August 23/2010. Of course, being a know it all, DUSTIN told me "No, it sounds like a balljoint". This is 2 minutes after arriving and he had already concluded what is wrong with my AUV in the parking lot. Of course they took the vehicle right in and Charged my warranty company $1,445.64 plus another $75 out of pocket deductible to us. For all that money, they replaced the lower left ball joint. As soon as it was done, we arrived in our rental car to pick up our Mercedes. DUSTIN told me "You're all set" and walked us out the door. As soon as my wife started the vehicle, I instructed her to turn the wheel left to right. Low and Behold, SAME EXACT NOISE. We proceeded to shut it off and march right back into FLETCHER JONES and let them know that they just replaced the wrong part. Upon an immediate parking lot inspection, DUSTIN confirmed what I was saying from the begining, "Sounds like the steering box". So, we left our Mercedes right there and DUSTIN proceeded to call our warranty company to let them know that they now needed to buy a steering box. The price given to my warranty company by FLETCHER JONES was so high, the warranty company ended up sending a steering box to them. One other thing, since it was covered under my warranty, FLETCHER JONES also decided to replace both Valve Cover Gaskets- citing a "Burning Smell under the hood". The vehicle had just been serviced by carmax a short time earlier and neither they, nor I smelled anything burning under the hood. This would have been easy to detect, as I garage the vehicle and can smell the tires if they are hot. That was how they (without our authorization or knowledge) upped the origional cost of the balljoint figure from $778.60 to the above mentioned amount. We were told by Jerry at CarMax, that it was a typical upsell technique.
Now it's August 30th and they have put the new steering box in, and as is his routine walked us out the door. Like before, DUSTIN told us we were "all set" and we headed out to the Mercedes
