I was here on 12/4/10 , I made reservations since I'd figure it qould be crowed since it was on a Saturday night , but since my reservation was early we didn't really need it.
This is a great spot , the food is really good they have plenty of dishes to choose from . each dish is enough for two people to share which is good since u really do want to try more than one dish .
In light of the bushy "Hollywood" "LA" scene which if u have done it u know it can be a bit aggravating , this place is a breath of fresh air. great food , great prices

I find this to be a very easy place to recommend as it is in essence an an very easy place to fall in love with. Its vibe is unpretentious and their is always the feeling that you are out amongst friends. I have only been in L.A. a bit over a year and i havent found a place that reminds me of my hometown favorite in Chicago until now. Kung Pao is a real place to come to be around real people...and they have really good food as well (trust me..) .. Great drinks and a very friendly staff, truly a Unique Hollywood experience not to be missed...

Well, I must say that this Bar , Kung Pao Kitty is the best bar in Hollywood.

Heres the reasons...
1. Bartenders and all staff are not at all douchey like the rest of Hollywood.
2. the DJs play awesome music after 10 pm.
3. The fare,,which means food for all you ding dongs is stellar. Late night menu till 2 AM for all you late nighters.
4. The best outside seating for smokers and drinkers available. Free entertainment on Hollywood Blvd.
5. TV. screens will show you old ass french films.
6. Oh yeah, the wings rule on the happy hour menu 3-7 every single day. 3 dollar Tigers and 5 dollar jager shots.

One day I had to catch a bus to San Diego after visiting Universal Studios and I ate some good chinese food in this place while waiting for my bus to leave. I had my young daughter with me and she also enjoyed the food plus who doesn't like hanging out in Hollywood??? Nice spot--good food only bad thing is that I live in Philadelphia.

Went in, late afternoon. I had one of the cheese wontons, which was decent.

I then had the beef and broccoli, which I have to say was great.

There was no fat on the meet, and the broccoli was fresh.

Not sure about the review below, maybe he ate at another restaurant.

Anyway, give it a try. Nice staff.

I got a Hungry Deck as a gift for last Christmas and this place was in it. The waitress actually has never seen a Hungary Deck card, so I guess either the Hungary Decks are not popular or people just don't go to these places.

I've driven by it many times, but it was the $10 card that made us try it. I always thought that it would look cool inside, because I think I've seen some photos online as well, but as we entered I was disappointed. It looks run down and cheap. The clientele was also less fashionable as I expected. But all this wouldn't have mattered if the food had been any good.

We ordered spring rolls, chicken wontons and Chinese chicken salad for appetizers. The first two were just OK and rather tasteless and were like any frozen appetizer that you can pick up at a convenience store. The Chinese chicken salad tasted very weird, almost unpleasant. It definitely didn't have anything to do with any Chinese chicken salads I've had in my life. The chicken was canned and the dressing was a bit overpoweringly salty and gingery.

We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken as entree. You would think that a place that bears the name Kung Pao at least serves up the best Kung Pao dishes in town. Well, far from it. It was bad. It had no flavor other than the salty soy sauce. It was really not enjoyable at all.

I wanted to have dessert (I know, what was I thinking, after all that?), but the waitress said that they didn't have desserts that night because they haven't received them yet (at 8 pm). Pardon me??

If I go out, I'd expect a restaurant to give me dishes that I can't make at home from my freezer in 5 minutes, let alone make it worse than I can in those 5 minutes.

Service was not at all top notch. We never got one of our appetizers (we had to ask for it after they brought out the entree), but we got charged for it twice.

Luckily, there are tons of good Chinese restaurants in LA, so we're not going to have to go back.

The waitress/bartender L.H. dug in her nose at the register without a napkin and then didn't wash her hands. Then, my order confused her - a salad and a shrimp curry. She had to ask me twice which entree I ordered. The salad and entree all came at once and was just piled on the bar. Now the horror. While stocking her bar and bending over I got to see the horrific rash of pimples across her butt and waist. Not to mention her vile pimple riddled rear. The reason I'm leaving this scathing commentary is I complained outside to a young man and staff-member who acted as if he understood my horror. He didn't even recognize me after I was there for 1 hour and I was 1 of only 6 people at the bar were HE STOOD for most of the time in between running food! Here is the worst part. He let me know that staff was AWARE of the bartender's habits and her "skin condition." That was more troubling to me than the pig behind the bar touching my food. Moreover it's worth mentioning the bartender dug in her purse right in front of me and then gave something to a kitchen girl. Then kitchen girl disappeared into the bathroom. Now I know why she was confused and not aware people were watching her. I'm no idiot. I've worked in th restaurant bar business for 25 years. Kung Pao Kitty has a systemic problem that goes far beyond one bad apple. It appears to be a culture of people that have no business touching food other than their own. This was the worst overall experience I've had in a restaurant because the problem was known and TOLERATED by the staff. Who's running this place?

I had a craving for Chinese food and found Kung Pao Kitty on CitySearch. It happens to be very close to my apartment, so I decided to give it a try. I called to place an order for pick up and the guy who answered the phone was really friendly and helpful. When I walked in to pick up the food, a server greeted me with a smile and directed me to the bar. Although I didn't sit and eat, the restaurant had a nice, dark, relaxing atmosphere. I ordered the Sesame Chicken and Egg Flower soup. Neither dish had much flavor and I was kinda bummed because it didn't satisfy my craving for Chinese food. The chicken was moist and the vegetables in the soup seemed very fresh, but it still lacked flavor. I usually flavor my food with a little salt, but a little salt didn't even do it. I might order from Kung Pao Kitty again; however, I won't order either of the dishes that I ordered before.

The story of my first vist to thee Kung Pao Kitty is one that I tell many a dinner party. What night is better than a night that begins with Spring Rolls served on wings of angels; sweet and sour sauce that might as well been dripped from a chinese tree of gold. And that was only the beginning. With a three dollar beer to loosen up my tie (and my date!); I had boarded the chinese gravy train with no intention to depart. The menu screamed possible entrees like the scroll thing from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I was stuck between and egg roll and hard place. Closing my eyes I let the powerful energy that fills the Kung Pao Kitty to guide me to my destiny. As I was told by my tattooed waitress from heaven, the power works in mysterious ways. As it turned out, we would have an unexpected guess at our feast: General Tso. My woman ( as I call her after 8 Tiger Beers!) and I tore through our meal like a starved Tiger at a Hollywood and Vine Shadow Boxing Tournament. Needless to say the Kung Pao Kitty is a a Stone to be Rollin with. To add, thanks to Kung Pao Kitty I have kicked the old habits and am happily married to my date, Starla. Thank You Kung Pao Kitty.

Pros: Best Bus Boys in Hollywood

I have eaten here a few times and always was hoping that it would be good. The name is great and the location to good too. It's not great..and the service is worse. The waitress was slow to take our order and deliver the food. She also was annoyed that we were asking questions about the menu. It could have been that they were understaffed, yet that's no excuse. The reason I gave them 2 stars is because their egg rolls are the bomb. Nice and big and plump...It takes me back to my childhood. Insanity is repeating the same behavior over and expecting a different result. It would be insane for me to go back. What a shame. I guess Location, Location, Location doesn't apply here.

Great experience. Mellow, cool, classy, hip vibe- love the decor-that restaurant has some good style!
Food was great- amazing fried tofu(not greasy at all) with the yummiest dipping sauce. I had a sweet golden thai curry with veggies and shrimp and a side of rice- delicious. Mojitos were great also.
I have been craving that restaurant ever since....I will go back for sure with friends.
I was bragging about kung pao kitty to my best friend who works close by and she said, "yeah we(her law firm work associates) go there all the time for lunch- really good food."

Went in last sunday and they overcharged me by $87. I was told by management that it was probably because my credit card was scanned twice. Watch those bartenders! Take only cash when you go to this place. Other than that, the food isn't that great.

Love the food here, sometimes are better than others though, but always good. Be careful, once charged twice, and service is so-so... Depends who is waiting on you. Overall, the food is worth the service + annoying location.

You know, as a local business I've wanted to support Kung Pao Kitty and have eaten there a few times, and it's really one of the only decent moderately-priced restaurants in a 2 or 3 block radius. I like the menu - it has a different twist on Chinese food with the cream cheese wontons and 70s style eggrolls. But each time I ate there I waited quite some time for service, and when I did get service, the nice waitress just seemed very frazzled and overwhelmed to be waiting on the few people in the restaurant. A group of us was even overcharged on the gratuity once. I've also ordered from them in the past, and they recently charged me a delivery fee, without letting me know they changed their delivery policies. I tipped the delivery guy generously and still would have cuz I know it's a pain in the butt job, but I could have at least been warned. On top of that it states it's a delivery fee for traveling over 2 miles, when I am well within the 2 mile radius. The food's not worth the fees accrued in the end... Too many changes and problems over the years. For the most part ok food and nice people, but not worth it.

This is definitely a must to all visiting the Los Angeles area. The food, service and staff were excellent and I?d like to thank ?Justin" at the door for his help and information about the restaurant and the city. This was helpful for me as a visitor for someone at the door to have information and be knowledgeable of the city. Thank you again to Justin and the staff at Kung Pao Kitty. Thank you, and I will be sure to return next time I am in town.

This has got to be one of the best Chinese Restaurants in the city! Fresh food, great atmosphere, and great service from the funky, and cool pleasent staff. They use all white meat! You can't say that about any other Chinese restaurants that I know of. The flavor of each dish seems to be authentic in it's creation and prepared by the chef with a little TLC. It's steps away from great theater, the arclight cinema and some fantastic music venues, not to mention the famed 2nd City Improv Comedy troop. It gives you the feel that your in a cool, hip and authentic NYC restaurant that specializes in excellent authentic Chines food! I recommend this one WHOLE HEARTEDLY!!

I go in here all the time and I take my friends. All of them now say it's the place with the best orange chicken in the city.

I also love their Lo Mein and their Calamari - the sauces are delicious. Plus, you get huge portions and rice thrown in, which is a great deal in my book.

Beer, good Chinese food in an unpretentious atmosphere - what else do you want?

I've never written a review before, but felt I must with Kung Pao Kitty. I just love, love love the food here. The sesame chicken, in particular, is the yummiest I have had in any asian restaurant. I also recommend the coconut curry as well especially as they prepare it to your liking regarding hotness. I've been going for a couple of years and have always had great food. I notice they now have a bar which makes it an even better dining/drinking experience. I also noticed the service, which was never great, has vastly improved.

It's getting to be quite the LA celeb hangout as I've seen Perez Hilton and Meg White of the White Stripes in there.

When this restaurant first opened, it was great. The service was never very good, but the food was excellent and reasonably priced. After a few months it started getting worse and worse. The management is terrible, the service is even worse, and the food tastes like Panda Express but with a Spago price tag. For some reason we kept ordering from KPK repeatedly, even though we got burned more than half the time. Tonight was the last straw; after crappy service and the aforementioned mediocre food, we were charged for food we didn't receive, and nobody there seemed much interested in getting our money or food back to us. It's a shame what happened to this place when they had such potential, but we're done. Go to China Bistro on Highland instead; at least they treat the customers courteously.

As a fellow server, I highly admire the waitstaff at the Kung Pao Kitty. For the most part, the gals there are opperating the restaurant BY THEMSELVES. This means they are waiting tables, answering phones, fielding take-away orders, packing food, running drinks and bussing tables. During lunch, I have NEVER seen more than one server waiting tables. MAYBE two people at BEST during weekend dinner shifts.
To all you nay-sayers; perhaps you are more familiar with four or five people catering to your every whim. These ladies have a very high work ethic and they ask you how YOU are doing EVERY DAY. D'you ever reciprocate?

Pros: View

Cons: Parking on weekends

It's a great space and a great idea (old school chinese food.) But the execution just ain't too good. The food is bland and uninteresting.

A few weeks ago, my older brother took me to Kung Pao Kitty as a belated b-day present.

I enjoyed it! There was a mix up with our order and we weren't charged for some food, which was nice. The manager came over and apologized. Overall, I was impressed with this restaurant. I'd go back again would the restaurant lives up to its grade of an A.

But, there wasn't a picture of a kitty on the window. They also didn't have any business cards.

I'm wondering if they have Kung Pao Kitty t-shirts because I'd want one! haha

Cons: parking's hard to find on a Friday night. so, be prepared to valet or walk far.

Kung Pao Kitty is consistently delicious. The sesame chicken, mongolian beef, lo mein all fantastic. In a city that is hard to find good food, I was happy to stumble on this spot. The restaurant is cool, rock and roll decor with a fun friendly staff. Their delivery service (!) is quick and reliable. Give them a try, you wont be sorry.

The food here is awesome. The ambience is fantastic. The waiters are sadly inexperienced and can mar the experience. Try the wonton soup, it's wonderful. The Kung Pao is tangy and very well made. The ingredients in the food are top quality and most of the dishes are well flavored. If you don't mind the waiters bringing you everything you order at once you'll be okay. If you want time to finish your soup before you have your entree you will be disappointed. The food is superb, though.

Pros: great food, high quality ingredients, fun ambience

Cons: waiters need to pull it together and figure out how to earn their tip

The ambiance is very comfy. The background music is usually ambient which makes for excellent conversation mood. The mushroom chicken with bamboo shoots is my favorite. I am in love with the vegetable fried rice, it's so plentiful to share with another and has so many good flavors.

Because we never got served.

I wanted to love this place - they have free wireless internet access, which, had I brought my computer, I could have used during the 45 minutes that we sat there, wating for the server to notice us.

The place wasn't crowded - only about 10 tables were occupied, so I'm baffled as to why we weren't able to get service.

I'll go again, and set up the computer while I'm waiting - that way if the server never shows, I won't care.

I'll just remember to eat before I go.

The do have beer here now.

Since I live in the neighborhood and heard decent things about the restaurant (such as cool atmosphere, hipster crowd, food--just okay); I decided to check it out.

After promptly being seated, I noticed it was a little noisy even though it wasn't that crowded. After waiting at the table for over twenty minutes and trying numerous times to flag down a waitress to take our drink order, we decided to leave. Maybe this was a one time thing....or they cater more toward take out; however, I wouldn't give them a second chance.

When KPK first opened, it was great. Presentation was great, the food was high quality and the price was (and remains) reasonable. However, at some point, things took a change for the worse. The last couple times I went, beef dishes were inedible. The tea tastes murky and like dirty dishwater, which, unless they're using pu-erh, is just awful. Service has gotten slow and the overall experience has lessened. Great location and vibe inside, it's a shame the food has gotten so lousy.

This place is down the street from my apartment, and if it wasn't I'd starve ! Good prices/large dishes. I read the reviews and hotfooted it down there the first time with my bottle but was glad ($2 buck chuck night) to find out they now sell beer and wine, so instead it was Sing Tao and a green tea martini. Big groups can make this place noisy, but most I see are placed towards the back near the lounge, so should you be on a date sit at the front and watch the crazies. . . . This place reminds me of a New York joint, you can make it whatever you want it to be. I eat in and get delivery and with Paladar gone I'm just glad Hollywood still has something that isn't just for tourists. Go Kitty.

I tried the Kung Pao chicken and it was the worst Kung Pao I've had in a long time. It wasn't even spicy. Nothing special about it in my eyes, and this is the house specialty? At $12 a plate? I tried this place because it has such a high rating. Now I wonder how people somehow rated it so highly. Is Chinese Food just really, really bad here? Maybe it's just that it's in a (somewhat) cool location? Either way, I'm never going there.

This place has the best chinese food I've had in LA! There was none of that chewy chicken or rubber steak that's served at a lot chinese food places in the area. The space is lovely, though a little noisey. We could have hung out there all night. You can tell that it's a new spot, but I have a feeling that it will just keep getting better, (they take suggestions!). Great music and fun staff. Don't forget to BYOB! They don't have a liquor license yet.

After visiting the kitty , my date and i could not stop talking about it.The food was amazing and the ambiance quite hip.The perfect night spot for a first date. Both casual and chic at once. Leaping dragon potstickers are shrimp dumplings to die for!!! The pan fried noodles and seabass will leave you close to tears and the warm chocolate cake or "bombe au chocolat" will get you laid...more than likely. The service is appropriately casual ,the staff is sexy and happy.Hip space and great food !!! Go taste the kitty!!! She is yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally! An affordable restaurant that has excellent food, cool environment, and convenient parking. There's a lot right across the street; $4.50 to park which is cheap in that neighborhood. Try the beef cigarettes -- like an asian spring roll w/out all the cabbage & other useless stuffing.

Wow, this restaurant is great. It's got a groovy interior, the staff is attentive, and the food is really spectacular. Try the resting pose dumplings or beef cigarettes (if I remember correctly) for starters. So good! My friends and I tried the green curry fried rice, the spare ribs, and a yummy beef and broccoli dish. All were delicious.

This doesn't feel like an ordinary Asian restaurant. It has a great decor, good lighting, great music. Check it out.
