Today was my first and last visit to Dr. Roberts....I recently moved to Southern California and needed a new optometrist. I hadn't been to an eye doctor for two years and figured I should explore new glasses and contacts. I wear RGP contacts and have a mild prescription (20/75) so I tend to go every other year instead of annually.

When I arrived, I was the first patient of the day. I was greeted pleasantly and asked to fill out a few forms. Pretty standard stuff.

The doctor's assistant then took me to a machine that seemed to take pictures of my eyes - still pretty normal.....then it got weird.

I was asked for my old prescription (which I obviously didn't have because A: it was two years old and long discarded, and B: I was at the eye doctor for an exam to give me a NEW prescription.)

Then I was taken into an exam room where I met Dr. Roberts. He was a bit aloof and asked me what I was there for.....huh? Dr. Roberts then too asked me for my old prescription.....weird. When I asked why he would need the old prescription he said it would be costly if I didn't have it. Costly? I asked what he meant by costly and he actually said, "it would cost more." Great. Glad he cleared that up. (Please understand that I have a pretty good grasp of definition of costly but Dr. Roberts never mentioned an actual dollar amount.) How could me not having my old prescription make an eye exam more costly for me?

Anyway, we continued our dialogue.....after Dr. Roberts found out that I wore RGP contacts he asked why I didn't have them on today and when the last time was that I wore my contact lenses. I stated that the last time I wore them was two days prior. He then smirked, looked at me and said, "well that's the worst time to get an eye exam." Huh?

At that point, I reached maximum frustration and simply said, "I think we're done here" and I walked out.

Hard to believe that there's a doctor that actually checks up on you after you've left their office. Such a nice and caring man, and he really goes above and beyond. He's great with children too, and really explains everything to make sure you understand your vision health needs.
