Hi I have lost my VERY curious George, he is a Jenday conure and has green wings and tail, reddish-orange body, yellow head and neck. I lost him on April 25th of this year as my dad came in the door and freaked him out. We live in Lincoln MA right next to rt. 2 and handscome airfield but was last seen on Deerhaven rd in Lincoln. I have left food water cage and some of his favorite toys on the deck but I am worried he got too far from home to see them. Please get in touch with me if you see him or even if you think you have!! My email address is bunnieofthemoon@gmail.com Me and his GF/cage buddy Lorelei miss him more than you could know and don't know what we will do if we can't find him. Thanks SO much for your time!

What a wonderful place for birds and bird lovers! We boarded our Chili there, an adorable double yellow Amazon, with ISSUES and I just can't believe the wonders the owner Janet has done with her in just two weeks...totally a bonus. My husband and I call it the Parrot Hotel. They love our little friend there, play with her; and we were totally confident that she would get the kind of treatment you would want for your best friend She gets the benefit of socialization with other birds, and we get the advice of an avian behaviorist who is unstinting with her time both in the shop and on the phone. It's as good as it gets. How very fortunate we are here in W.Ma.

This shop is amazing. The employees are friendly and helpful. The owner, Janet, is thoughtful and accepting of everyone. My fianc and I visit regularly.

I have visited other bird & pet stores and I feel most comfortable and welcome in this one. The shop is the cleanest I??ve been to; the birds are socialized and friendly. There is always a friendly, knowledgeable staff person in the store to help me when I have questions or concerns about my bird.

Education is a key component within this shop. With an open mind and warm heart, Janet welcomes everyone and is willing to share her knowledge and expertise with anyone who asks. Most importantly, she does so in a kind way, not in a way that makes you feel guilty for not knowing the answer. I never feel like I??ve asked a silly question. There is never a judgmental or debasing way about Janet ?? she is always helpful and encouraging.

The atmosphere in the shop is fantastic and as such it attracts many wonderful people. In addition to the helpful staff, there are many return customers that can be found at the shop on any given day. Janet, her staff, and their birds are helping to bring together a great community of avian enthusiasts right here in Western MA. Thanks, Janet, for all that you do and everything you??ve taught us.

I'm not sure which store Terry S. went to, but it wasn't The Parrot and Bird Emporium! One of Janet??s top priorities is cleanliness and bird health. I have been to this store on different days of the week and have been there when the door opens in the morning to right before they close for the day and every time shows the exact same high level of cleanliness ?? in the showroom, nursery and bird room.

When someone is interested in a species of bird, Janet spends time with that family to make sure they are a good fit for the species in question. She never pushes people to buy a more expensive bird. She works diligently to make sure each bird goes to the perfect home.

My husband and I bought a Congo African Grey from Janet. She is one of the most well adjusted, sweet and even tempered African Greys that I have ever met. You don't get a bird like that by force feeding and force weaning. I have seen Janet hand feed babies. She gives each baby undivided attention for their whole feeding and takes as long as the baby needs to eat. She made sure that our Grey weaned on her own timetable for the most confident and healthy baby possible.

In addition, The Parrot and Bird Emporium is the only bird store in the area to use Positive Reinforcement training methods. This is the best method for creating strong, lasting bonds with birds based on respect. It is a new concept in bird husbandry that The Parrot and Bird Emporium has embraced. Janet??s store is truly one that advocates education as a cornerstone to successful parrot ownership. The Parrot and Bird Emporium is one of the only places in the country where you can find 6 week clicker training classes for parrots. For a store that is cutting edge in husbandry and education, The Parrot and Bird Emporium is the only place to go!

My wife and I are on the Board of Directors of The Connecticut Parrot Society and are members of The International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators, and have worked very closely with world class parrot trainers such as Barbara Heidenreich, in addition we have traveled from New Jersey to Maine to view and evaluate bird stores, breeding programs, and the handling of parrots. When Janet Berube opened her store in Southwick, MA my wife and I very thoroughly interviewed her staff, investigated her bird room and nursery, and asked every question we could. What we found was one of the most unique, progressive, educationally minded, and clean stores on the entire east coast. Janet encourages only positive reinforcement training methods and utilizes Dr. Susan Freidmans Applied Behavior Analysis to work towards building positive human/bird relationships. Her birds are incredibly well socialized as she stresses the need for her birds to be handled and stimulated instead of being socially isolated like many stores continue to practice. She even goes so far as to offer training classes and seminars. As for the store's cleanliness, Janet is the only store I have ever seen using state of the art air filtration systems to ensure that her birds are healthy. In addition, she visits breeder facilities and refuses to deal with "birdy-mill" style breeders. Yes, her birds do take a while to wean, but as any educated companion bird owner would know, force weaning a bird results in agressive/problem behavior later in life. And yes, she does take the time to ensure that all the birds in her nursery are properly hand fed to make sure that the food fill the crop and does not cause aspiration. Once birds are weaned Janet feeds an organic fruit, veggie, and complete bean protein mix (prepared on site), as well as an organic pellet mix.

When Janet works with clients she completely answers all questions that the client may have. I have watched her work with clients to ensure that the family chooses a bird that will fit their lifestyle, housing, and family situations. She never attempts to upsell or force a more expensive bird on a family. Once a bird is purchased Janet encourages the entire family to visit her store and be taught basic husbandry skills, basic training skills, and proper nutrition. She makes sure the bird and the family are ready to go home.

If you want a store that does things the right way and follows the modern, up-to-date research, go to THE PARROT AND BIRD EMPORIUM!!

The last line of the Terry S. post should tell you all you need to know. When will people learn they simply can't make their candle brighter by attempting to blow out the candle of another.

With that said, I am very familiar with Janet and company that make up the Parrot and Bird Emporium, have purchased birds from there because I know quality when I see it and NOTHING in the slanderous post is based on fact. Instead it is a very lame attempt to discredit the competition. Why not let the cream rise to the top because after all, the most important thing in this whole equation are the birds and NOT sales. Janet knows this and will not place a bird in a home unless she is confident that bird and owner are a perfect fit.

As far as experience, again, Janet is a seasoned pro and she strives to be the most knowledgeable, friendly and helpful liaison she can be.

So, if per chance you actually bought anything Terry S. said, do yourself a favor and find out what a terrific experience one has when visiting all the little feathered kids at The Parrot and Bird Emporium.

Oh, and as for the baby birds hanging on the side of the cage because they are miserable...???? Everyone knows that is what a healthy baby does when he wants to come out and play with his human friends. Sick birds just sit on the bottom of the cage and have no desire to get out, interact or eat for that matter. And speaking of cage bottoms, again, we all know the grates that come with most cages just collect poop and are a proven risk for injuries. That is why we who do know something about our avian buddies know there is nothing in nature that comes close to resembling a grate so we don't put them in our cages or habitats. And heaven forbid some sort of emergency comes up like weather or illness, where you can't get to your bird for a day or more (and it does happen in the case of heart attacks, a car breaking down hours away from home, etc.) and the very food that could save your birds life is just inches away, trapped out of reach right under that wonderful grate.

And who am I and why do I care? I am a true bird lover and will not sit still and let somebody sit behind a computer and hide. I challenge you to actually go to The Parrot and Bird Emporium, make yourself known and ask to be shown anything that is less than stellar. You will see that the birds are fantastic, the staff is helpful and anything but what you say, and you could eat off the floor.

This just sounds like a case of transference to me. This is where a person try??s to "transfer' what they actually are upon someone else. Notice the plug for another store at the end of her post. Could this be any more obvious?

I think not.

This is the best Parrot store! I bought my White Bellied Caique from them and they were nothing but helpful. The owner Janet hand feeds all the birds and raises them with love and care.

Each bird is special to her and her staff and get loads of personal attention. She takes time to make sure each person who comes into the store knows everything about the bird that they are considering purchasing.

She is all about education and hands out information to people interested in buying a bird for the first time. They take the time to let you interact with the birds and guide you so you get the bird that is right for you. She told me often times the bird picks you instead of you picking the bird.

That was so true in my case - I love my bird to death but he picked me. I wasn't even looking at him but he kept coming over to me and I couldn't resist. He is a complete joy!

Janet is all about her birds and makes everyone feel at home. The birds definitely come first. The store is clean and there is never any pressure to buy anything that you don't want.

Janet has a deep bond with her birds and treats them like they were her kids. She gets so emotional every time one of her kids leaves. People tell her that she should just open the store for visitors and charge admission that way she would never have to sell them.

The Clicker Training Classes have been fun and have really helped enhance the quality of time I spend with my birds. It really brings out their personality. Yes, birds .... I had to go back and get another one - I just fell in love.

They also have speakers scheduled to come in to help customers better understand their birds and improve the quality of life for everyone. This is not just another bird store or another business - this is Janet's passion.

Every time I have gone in the store has been filled with smiling happy people who are enjoying themselves and the birds. What a happy place! Thank you so much for helping me find the two most beautiful birds with the most awesome personalities!

To Terry whom is Edna's friend and trying to sabotage Janet and Debbie and Poppy. The Parrott and Bird Emporium is the best store for birds and supplies I have ever had the pleasure of being in. I have birds that I bought there and am very happy with. The birds in the Parrot and bird Emporium are hand fed, well taken care of and have NEVER been mistreated. Edna does not like the competition with this store and stoops to filing false claims with the state and when that doesn't work she has her son's girlfriend write a bad review.
I have bought birds from Edna and the Crystal Parrot and they have died at less than half their projected lives. The Crystal Parrat is a very vindictive store that if you do not buy from them due to changing your mind, they will call you and harrass you. They think that is what it should be.
Now back to The Parrott and Bird Emporium and bird diets. The veggie mix that is made for the birds does not come out of a can. It is fresh, no sodium added. It is also made bi-weekly and frozen for freshness. This I know for fact as I have been there when the veggies are cut up and cooked for the birds. The store is clean and has always been clean every time I have been in there. As customers you can get the answers you need as to weening, D.O.B. and anything else you need to know. Janet also offers clicker training for birds and has guest speakers coming to educate people on birds.
NOW, Let's talk about Edna and the Crystal Parrot. Not only have i bought birds from Edna, but I have visited that store and talk about abusing animals in general. How about my wife and myself being there to pick out a bird and watched an employee in the feeding romm smack an African Grey because it nipped at them. This my wife and myself as well as my 15 year old son saw as we were in the visiting room waiting for another employee to bring us out a sun conure to look at and visit. Why is it that customers are not allowed into Edna's bird room to look at birds and then pick one? Edna should not have people stoop so low to try and hurt a viable business that is not about the almighty buck.
The Parrott and Bird Emporium does have prices on 95% of all their inventory, and when Edna sends someone in to check out her supposed competition, they should wear their glasses if they need them and then they will see all the prices. The Parrot and Bird Emporium is the best bird store I have ever been in from Boston to New York/New Jersey. I personally invite anyone who reads this to go into this store and just see for themselves. Thank You Janet, Debbie, and Poopy for having a first class store and the knowledge to go with it. I especially want to thank Janet and Barbara for the clicker training classes i took. I have a Jenday Conure, Sun Conure, Yellow headed Amazon, Goffin Cockatoo, Albino Cockatiel all in my home and they are flourishing from the training and time and care I learned from THE PARROTT AND BIRD EMPORIUM!!!!
Also i have bought the aviary bedding from Janet for my bird perches, but this was my own idea. Janet and her staff have never pushed me into buying anything. We were the ones that actually asked for the bedding pellets. The only cages I have ever seen without grates is for baby birds, so that when they walk around the bottom of the cages they don't get injured. Anyone with any bird knowledge knows you remove grates for little babies and use soft bedding materials for the babies.
As for Caique parrots, people need to read up on them, as they are known in the parrot world as clowns and are very hyper and active. I have personally held these birds and they are a blast to handle. Go look at the Caiques and then tell me they are starving. They are beautiful birds and by no means underfed or starving.
Whatever happened to the TRUTH being what everything is all about. People should not slam anyone without actual fact. Everything I have said here the truth with my 15 year old and my wife as witnesses.
Good Luck Janet and staff and a Great Job your doing.

Whatever happened to the TRUTH being what everything is all about. People should not slam anyone without actual fact. Everything I have said here the truth with my 15 year old and my wife as witnesses.
Good Luck Janet and staff and a Great Job your doing.

.

I have to say this is the best parrot store in all of Western Ma. The atmosphere is tropical and the staff is very knowledgable and friendly. The birds are well socialized and they clicker train all their birds and are so eager to share with you how to have a happy and health relationship with your feathered friend. From the minute you walk in the store you will feel welcomed and are encouraged to handle and play with these magical creatures. They encourage positive reinforcement in every thing you do with the parrots and are willing to help you with any questions. They also have clicker training classes that run 6 weeks long which I took and I have to say it was the best thing I ever did. You really have to experience this store for your self, if your a parrot lover I gurantee you this will be the only store you go to again!!!!! AWESOME STORE.
