After looking at various options, I decided to go with The Energy Stars because the salesman appeared very professional. I never heard of sealing areas of least resistance to avoid loss of conditioned air into attic, but it made good sense to me, so I purchased the service in addition to blown insulation.

On the morning that the installer arrived, he spent very little time in my attic sealing. I asked him was there much to seal, and he said something about wires. I then inquired that every thing was sealed, and he nodded. Believing the guy must know his job better than I...even if he wasn't making me feel reassured..., I took him at his word that all was sealed that needed to be sealed. Then, he blew in insulation and was gone. Shortly after he left, I noticed pieces of the insulation in my two bathrooms. I did not think anything of this, as each bathroom is close to an attic opening and pieces simply drifted during installation.

A few days later, I went to change the filter on my a/c. When I opened up the a/c closet, I found it filled with insulation material. I was very upset to find this, as it was a clear indication that the installer had NOT sealed the way he was suppose to. Again, I paid extra for this service!

I contacted Jessica, who arranged to have installer come back out. On the afternoon that he was due to come out, I received word that he would arrive much later than scheduled, so repair was re-scheduled with another installer for next morning between 9 - 10 (which was this morning).

The installers arrived at 10:45, and they spoke very poor English. I advised Jessica via email that I was having difficult time communicating with them, but she indicated that they spoke good English. I have to admit Jessica's email made me wonder if the two guys were simply pretending not to speak good English. I can only report what I experienced, which is that neither of the two men before me appeared to speak good English. By the way, I have many relatives who are Hispanic, and I have no problem communicating with them. Anyway, I resorted to verbal as well as hand communication to try to convey my concerns.

One of the two men went into attic ~ I presume he sealed some places, but with apparent communication barrier I cannot say for certain. Then, he came down from attic and sealed some areas from floor level. This did not strike me as ideal because the company's promotional video specifically indicated sealing should take place in attic BEFORE blowing insulation. Of course, with sealing job botched by initial installer, I accepted this must be the best the second installer can do.

The salesman told me that a certificate would be placed on rafter in attic, which was not done by either installer. I advised Jessica of this, and she told me that is reserved for new construction, but that she would get certificate to me. I'll watch for this in future mail deliveries.

I wish I could give 4 or 5 star rating for service provided, as that would be an indication that my job was well done. However, the first installer took shortcuts that diminished my satisfaction. Follow up by Jessica raised my satisfaction, but I remain disappointed because I am not sure the "fix" is as effective as a job done right the first time around.

I hired The Energy Stars because they appeared to be professionals, but the sub-contractors did not impress me. I could have paid someone off of Craigslist to do the job for about half as much as The Energy Stars charged, and I seriously think they may have done a better job.

This guys were excellent. The rep, the office staff and the installers all had my best interest in mind. They didn't try to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need, they stuck with what I asked for and when they did the work all was professional , on time and great quality. I would recommend them to anyone for spray foam insulation.
