Dine at Las Canarias, where it's your choice of a softly lit dining room or the Mexican tile patio with palm trees. A Sunday "champagne brunch? features a spread of sushi, carved meat, omelets, fruits and cheeses, artfully presented desserts and more.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Even though they were booked the night we wanted to eat there and we had no idea to make prior reservations, the hostess was more than happy to accept us in when the place opened for dinner at 5:30PM. It was our first time there, but hopefully, it won't be our last. You get great food, fantastic service, and a wonderful view of the Riverwalk. Prices are higher than we've ever paid for, but the experience eating there was priceless!

Pros: Very Romantic

Cons: Very Expensive

Food was outstanding. My wife had the filet mignon and I had the Venison Loin both were delicious. For desert we shared the bread pudding which was perfect. The server was very attentive and helpful suggesting wines for our meal. Of course the pricing was higher than I would have liked but comparable to other high end restaurants. It was a nice 5 yr Anniversary treat.

We ate dinner here because we were staying at the adjacent hotel, but it turned out to be one of the nicest meals we had had anywhere, ever. The service was standout -- welcoming, helpful, informative of the menu items, and never intrusive. The ambiance in the outdoor dining area by the river was romantic and pleasant. Every morsel of food was special, creative, and perfectly prepared, and the food was not overly rich as is the case with so many similar restaurants. I recommend the bread pudding, which was not what I expected but very interesting and delicious, more like a carmel custard than a conventional bread pudding. Even the coffee was perfect.

Pros: Wonderful service and food, lovely waterfront

Cons: Not a single con!

Great service, great food! Expensive, but it's all worth it! Order the cheese platter no matter what!
One of the best restaurant I've ever been to! too bad chef Cohen is leaving!

Pros: super!

The place is nice, I'll give it that and that's about it. I went there and it was dead; we were the only ones there. We received horrible service. The host took a while to seat us which is questionabel because THERE WAS NOONE THERE. The soup tasted like dirt...I'm serious. We had to ask for coffee several times...our waitress had short term memory. When we finished our main course we were not offered the dessert menu. Next time I'll take my business some where else.

Wonderful food with wonderful service! My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day and it was so much more than expected. The food was so delicious and cooked with flavors I've never experienced before. It's an exquisite restaurant with a relaxed environment. I've been to other high dollar restaurants where it was so uptight, I was afraid to drop a single crumb or talk too loud. Here, I felt relaxed but was still given royal treatment. My ONLY complaint was the hostess who failed to notice me standing there waiting to get her attention for quite some time and I quote "cancelled our appointment because they only hold reservations for 15 minutes." I'm sorry lady but it was Valentine's Day and we were only 20 minutes late. I can understand there are policies in place but there were plenty of tables open so there was no need for the rudeness. My boyfriend who came a little bit after me because he was parking the car told me she did the same thing to him. Perhaps this can be a message to get a new hostess. Other than her, my overall experience was absolutely wonderful and I will be back again!

With the holiday season in full swing my girlfriend and I have not had as many opportunities to spend time dinning out. Having purchased tickets to the show Chicago, I heard great things about the restaurant and thought what a way to start the evening. The service was impeccable, the management was over the top with kindness and went out of their way to make it a perfect date. Seared ahi tuni with a splash of fois gras was delectable, my girlfriends venison chop was perfectly cooked and my lamb melted in my mouth. If you find yourself running around and and need to take a well deserved break, Las Canarias is an oasis from the daily grind.

Cons: romantic but across from johnny rockets

Usually I reserve that comment for proving that free stuff isn't always best. This, on the other hand, while pricey, IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!! My husband and I had been there several times when we were out-of-towners and now that we are SA residents, we try to bring our out-of-towners there for the Sunday brunch. This staff is the most attentive in the city. The selection on the massive buffet is unbelievable and will please all. If you go, plan on spending a couple of hours and always make reservations. Ask for one of the tables by the windows overlooking the river. Relax to the sounds of the live guitar player and have a few glasses of champagne!

This was the last meal I had in San Antonio, and was definitely the most worth the big money. I dined at "Biga on the Banks" earlier, and was very disappointed, but this place was not only beautiful, but delicious. I had the lobster salad, the foie gras, and the Amberjack--all of which were wonderful. The cheese was a great end, and the wine list VERY fairly priced and extensive.

I had never heard of this restaurant but was invited by a friend to dine there. The food was delicious and exquisitely presented, the servers were attentive and well-informed about the ingredients and preparation. We were surprised by "extras" like the wonderful assortment of breads with a black olive tapenade and truffles at the end of the meal. I couldn't think of dessert. Forgot my reading glasses, so had to beg companions to read to me and might have made other selections than what I ordered--the calamari and green salad with goat cheese. Delightful! Didn't sample the desserts but they and the cheeses certainly looked appealing.

Pros: quality, presentation, ambience

If you can afford it, Las Carnarias is the perfect reprieve from the jammed Riverwalk. Let your servers indulge you, they are very good at it. Their fresh breads are excellent and all our meals were equally as good. A beautiful restaurant with beautiful service.

We drove to Las Canarias from Austin to experience a romantic meal on the River Walk. We were so pleased with our experience. The fact that the restuarant was linked to a hotel was of slight concern but the ambience was that of a (stand alone) fine dining restuarant with pleasant guitar music and a romantic feel. The service was more than outstanding. The matre de took special interest in making sure that he exceeded my expectations when a small comment about seating arrangement was brought to his attention by the hostess. Cannot say enough good things about Las Canarias. It lived up to all of what we hoped for in our fine dining on the River Walk.

My husband and I drove in from Austin for a romantic dinner to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We were greeted with a surprise glass of champagne, the best service we have experienced together ANYWHERE, and food that was to-die-for! Our waiters, Rick & Shawn, couldn't have made our visit any better. If you are hoping for a memorable evening, you can't miss with this restaurant!!!

I'd never heard of Las Canarias the first time we visited, but it's been very dear to my heart and taste buds since. The ambience is beautiful, the service is always friendly and knowledgeable and the food is incredible. There is wonderful creativity in the kitchen and they tickle the imagination with menu items like sweet onion caramel on desserts and white truffel macaroni and lobster sorbet. I always look forward to a trip back to Las Canarias.

Las Canarias is the best restaurant in town value for money and rivals the top restaurants that I have dine at through-out the world when it comes to food quality and service. Fresh, creative high quality food and excellent, attentive and friendly service. Whether for lunch, Dinner or their incredible brunch I recommend it highly.

Hidden inside La Mansion Hotel is a treasure of culinary treats called Las Canarias. Sunday brunch is the best in town complete with champagne, omelettes made to order, pastries, salmon in multiple varieties, bread pudding to die for, fruits, salads, shrimp, and regular breakfast items done with excellent gourmet taste. The dining room is elegant but simple. THe outdoor dininig is romantic and overlooks the Riverwalk above the walkway level so passer-bys are not eyeballing the food or the way you are eating! Excellent attentive service which is not overwhelming or pushy. Competitive prices with other hotel oriented breakfast buffets. I've never ordered off the menu although I've heard their breakfast menu items are equally to die for! Well worth it, but make reservations at least a day ahead of time.
